maplesyrup Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 What can Alliance Quebec be thinking to have appointed a unilingual anglophone to head up their Quebec English rights organization? The Protestant Schol Board of Greater Montreal has until recently been primarily responsible for teaching anglophones in Quebec. Why they chose not to ensure that their students beaome bilingual is beyond me. It seems there are a few of these dinosaurs still around. Anglos in declineResignation of MNA Williams, coupled with selection of Gray as Alliance president, point to general weakening of anglo political representation http://www.canada.com/montreal/montrealgaz...7F-E363EB2EF68F Quote An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. Pellaken Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 that link does not work for me. what is alliance quebec? Quote
maplesyrup Posted March 11, 2004 Author Report Posted March 11, 2004 It is the correct link, not sure what the problem is. The article is in today's Montreal Gazette. Alliance Quebec is an organization that was set up to defend anglophone rights in Quebec. It has always been somewhat of a controversial organization, some felt they were not aggressive enough, others felt they were too aggressive. so maybe they were doing something right. August1991 Posted March 11, 2004 Report Posted March 11, 2004 Don't really want to go there except in telegraphic form. Think of squabbling on a local ratepayers organization. More or less the same. Details below may be wrong. Previous head was local lawyer, made controversial statements, lost internal support, then resigned before end of term for personal reasons. By-election held to replace, one faction won. All rather irrelevant now. Quote
Pellaken Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 IMHO, if its an english group, why not have an english representive? Quote
maplesyrup Posted March 13, 2004 Author Report Posted March 13, 2004 The issue is he cannot speak French. Quote An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It's being able to differentiate between what you do know and what you don't. Anatole France
Pellaken Posted March 13, 2004 Report Posted March 13, 2004 perhaps they did it on purpose, to make a point? Quote
maplesyrup Posted March 13, 2004 Author Report Posted March 13, 2004 Not a very good approach, if that's the case, but don't think it is.
