beckij
I think protests are a waste of time. I mean, I understand why some people feel compelled to get out to make themselves feel like their making a difference, but essentially the powers that be will prevail because they control the airwaves. Look at the WTO Ministerial Protests of 1999 and the people who tried to stop globalization. Here's a quote I thought was interesting: "If resistant culture has learned anything over the past 150 years, it’s that “the people united” is a falsehood; this concept only constructs new exclusionist platforms by creating bureaucratic monoliths and semiotic regimes that cannot represent or act on behalf of the diverse desires and needs of individuals within complex and hybridizing social segments." M.Dancer
If you weant to communicate with the masses avoid phrases like: resistant culture exclusionist platforms semiotic regimes hybridizing social segments ...or risk sounding like a 3rd year poli-sci wonk suffering from a major disconnect with mainstream society

Moonlight Graham
Yes those civil rights protests by Martin Luther King Jr. were a complete waste of time As were the protests of Gandhi.
