wulf42 Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 It is starting to look like a good news bad news situation.......goods news Harper looks like he will get another Minority...bad news it is still a minority....so now what happens? if all the parties couldn't work together before how are they going to now.....we are right back where we started. myata Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 Right; shouldn't he have thought about it before calling this election? E.g actually trying to work with those other parties, as Canadians mandated him to, when they elected him into minority? I wonder what did he think he has accomplished in this mandate (priorities, anyone?) that would have justified him getting a majority mandate this time around? Chuck U. Farlie Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 The one bonus... although not worth the $300 million spent... is that when the Liberals lose it might give them reason enough to toss Dion. I wonder who will lead the liberals in a year or two when we have to do this all again? Quote I swear to drunk I'm not god. ________________________

capricorn Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 Frank McKenna or Michael Ignatieff. My guess McKenna will take a pass as he did last time around citing personal/family reasons. McKenna's making a mint in private sector. Ignatieff is too centre right for the Liberals. My bet's on Bob Rae. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." capricorn Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 My votes with Capricorn being absolutely correct. About McKenna. He would be a formidable opponent against the Conservatives. Truth be told, a Liberal government lead by McKenna would probably woo me back into the Liberal camp. That's how much confidence and respect I have in McKenna's abilities. Sadly it is not to be. eyeball Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 Harper was kept on his leash and this seems to be tightly cinched around a keystone Conservative issue, crime. If Conservatives expect to rely on Quebec votes to get their majority they'll have to moderate if not abandon many of their positions on crime. It will be difficult for Conservatives to use this as an election issue anytime soon as Quebecers will likely be wary of it for some time. Thank you BQ, you should take most of the credit for making this election worth the trouble. In addition to the above, the lowest voter turnout in history and equally dismal popular vote numbers will likely mean more people will add their voice to the call for electoral reforms and alternatives to FPTP. All in all I'm fairly content about how the election turned out and think the fallout will cause some interesting effects. Quote I said now watch what you say they'll be calling you a radical, a liberal, oh fanatical criminal

Thank you BQ, you should take most of the credit for making this election worth the trouble. This is because the people of Quebec are the highest offenders of the law in this country. Should not something be done about this, not hide behind a provincial based party disguised as a national party. I say it is time to cleanup Quebec. The law should be changed that if a party does not run candidates in at least 2 maybe 3 of the provinces they should be removed form the ballot. The BQ are an embarrassment to this country. They have no interest in the rest of the country just thier in thier little sandbox and they pee in everyone else's and say that everyone else's sandbox stinks to them. I say write laws to curb the BQ!! Quote
normanchateau Posted October 15, 2008 Report Posted October 15, 2008 Harper was kept on his leash and Thank you BQ, you should take most of the credit I normally have no use for Duceppe but this time I'm grateful to him for keeping Harper on his leash and saving Canada from a majority government lead by a social conservative who, had he been PM at the time, would have committed Canadians to Bush's war in Iraq. Harper began the campaign poised to win a majority. He ran against the most ineffective Liberal leader in generations. The Green Shift was rejected by Canadians. The NDP and Greens bled off Liberal support. Running against Dion was Harper's best shot at a majority. The Liberals will have a new leader in 2009 and that leader will take on Harper in the rest of Canada just as Duceppe did in Quebec. Quote
