Obviously, however, the Conservatives have few prospects of winning ridings on or near Montreal Island. Accordingly we hope that Montrealers - and people across Quebec - will vote for the federalist candidate most likely to deprive the Bloc Québécois of members of Parliament.--- The actual "best interest of Quebec" would be full, able representation in the federal cabinet, and in the shadow cabinets of both opposition parties. Just out of curiousity, did these newspapers plainly endorsed the Conservatives? Greg Weston of the Ottawa Sun had ridiculed Dion over his headlined "Dion's tube boob." A couple of noteworthy passages: Mr. Harper showed a stiff spine when he declined to go to Beijing during the Olympics to share drinks with the totalitarian government there. The Conservatives have made clear Canada will not lend legitimacy to next year's Durban II, the second international conference against "racism" that is actually a propaganda front for regimes like Iran to bash the West.Canada is, in population, a small country, but Mr. Harper insists we stand tall. Conservative commitments to rebuild the Canadian Forces -- it fell into ruins under Liberal governments -- are an assertion of Canadian independence, because a competent military makes us less reliant on the U.S. Indeed, when foreign nations began hovering around our North, the Conservative government initiated its Arctic strategy, with the construction of patrol ships and a deep water port, again as an assertion of Canadian sovereignty. ---- From the moment he became Liberal leader, Mr. Dion has tried to resurrect fear Mr. Harper is a right-wing radical who seeks to govern exactly like George W. Bush. This is nonsense. Mr. Harper allowed same-sex marriage to stand, he killed a private member's bill that could have offered protection to unborn children and he continues to alienate small government types with his program spending. It's so unobjective about virtually EVERYTHING I hold it in utter contempt. At least there are anti-Harper stories in the Globe and the Sun etc. The Toronto Star is pro liberals on EVERYTHING and always has been. It's a pandering newspaper and it's a complete joke. Jobu Posted October 12, 2008 Author Report Share Posted October 12, 2008 (edited) Vancouver Province endorses Harper and urges a majority: Given the inherent risks attached to the global financial crisis, now is not the time for Canadians to gamble with the economy on Parliament Hill.Rather than roll the dice, protecting Canadians during these difficult and unstable times calls for proven, rational measures from a federal government that uses workable fundamentals, such as keeping taxes low, paying down debt and maintaining controlled spending. That's why we are endorsing Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Conservatives and urge voters to give them a majority on Oct. 14, a majority incidentally that should include stronger representation from B.C. Canadians need a majority government to give themselves and global investors increased confidence in our country's economy as we face new global market challenges. Even as a minority in less challenging times, the Harper government followed a safe, fundamentally-solid course, lowering both personal and business taxes, while managing to keep Canada out of serious economic trouble, unlike our American cousins. Harper not only cut the average family's annual tax bill by about $3,000, but by 2012 under the Tories our businesses will have the lowest taxes in the G-7. Now those policies are needed more than ever but another minority government in Ottawa would be a handmaiden to uncertainty, both at home and abroad, which would be highly damaging for a commodities-based exporting country like Canada. But both the Liberals and NDP propose to lead Canada through these tough economic times by raising taxes. The Liberals will introduce a carbon tax, which means a double-whammy here in B.C., while the NDP will cancel $50 billion in business tax cuts scheduled previously by the Conservatives. These policies can only lead to reducing global competitiveness for Canadian companies and, subsequently, lead to fewer jobs and more hardships for Canadian families. Or, as Harper said last week: "The platforms of the opposition are written for an economic fantasyland, a place where money grows on trees." Now is not the time to hike taxes -- it's the time to cut them further In truth, money only grows out of a strong economy and it's only through economic strength that Canadian families can prosper in a sustainable manner. Our endorsement of the Conservatives is strengthened by their tougher stance on crime, because this issue is particularly relevant here in B.C. B.C. is also Canada's trading gateway to Asia and because of all the challenges we face on the West Coast in preparing for our gateway role, stronger representation on the government side by B.C. MPs can only give British Columbians a stronger voice in Ottawa.
