Topaz Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 I say another minority to ANY of the parties. If NDP or the Libs are the minority government, we'll probably get the same kind of government because the official opposition would be Cons and they would be against everything and everybody! Quote

Well thank you for the doctor prognosis. Liberals have not been soft on crime. One must support everyones "rights" , and must take the good with the bad. A killer 's rights? He is not a killer until convicted. We get justice by doing things such as upholding all rights . No more no less. Once convicted, we remove the biggest right of all, freedom to move around. The sponsorship scandal will forever be linked to Chretien, until the next scandal comes along. It was wrong, but that is not to say scandals havent occured on Harpers watch. I will grant you the military rant, mind you who was the one to cancel the latest equipment for the military? Our growth in economy, GDP, and world standing as respects health, wealth, banking etc is not the CPC's alone to brag about. There was another party that could claim so success. So if we have been screwed, I dont see it. Quote

AngusThermopyle Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 I will grant you the military rant, mind you who was the one to cancel the latest equipment for the military? C'mon now Guyser. The cancellation of the doomed to failure do everything ships just can't be compared to the Helo cancellation. The Helo cancellation was an incredibly cynical and dumb move to make, the latest cancellation was based upon sound principles, in order to avoid massive cost overuns. If he hadn't cancelled those ill advised ships and gone on with the project despite costs then Harper would have been pilloried by both the press and the public. The Helo cancellation on the other hand ended up costing us 500 mil and quite a few lives of service men, as I said, they can't rationally be compared. Quote I yam what I yam - Popeye
guyser Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 Not soft on crime........lol??http://www.gloriakovach.ca/PressReleases/P...es-at-Risk.aspx I read it. Hardly partisan but you knew that. Read the sub header Tough on Crime Legislation is keeping drug dealers on the streets It then goes on to say " a bill that will meet serious drug criminals with serious mandatory prison time." Which is it? Serious drug criminals = get out of jail card ? And a dumb ass MADD intitative (will someone please push MADD into oblivion with their stupid ass commercials) a report on the possible creation of a criminal offence of driving with a blood-alcohol level of .05. Great, lets jail mom and dads out celebrating their wedding anniversary. Quote

From what I understand we are not the laughing stock in so far as our abilities. The armies that are in Afghanistan with us (IIRC Italians/Germans/French) have the cushy jobs and dont leave the compounds. A huge source of irritation for our guys. I do agree the infrastructure needs more money , but frankly I am not impressed by getting everything bigger and better. First? We get the men and women better pay , better housing. Then we look at the next step. Simplistic as it is, if I am sent into battle , the "vehicle" i get sent in on makes no difference. I get there whether in a Yugo or a LIncoln. Quote

Canada Military needs more manpower...i agree maybe we don t need bigger ...but we do need better...........we need to arm those men and women to the teeth with the very best weapons we can give them..........if we are going to claim Canada's North we better have the muscle to back it up...................we need new Nuclear subs (the subs we got aren't all that great)....Aircraft Carriers and a bigger better armed Army so we can take care of ourselves and not rely on the Americans for help! capricorn Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 Our growth in economy, GDP, and world standing as respects health, wealth, banking etc is not the CPC's alone to brag about. There was another party that could claim so success. In the pissing contest about which government has been friendliest to the economy, the most important players of all are forgotten. The Canadian economy would be worth shit today and our social programs would be in a shambles if it wasn't for the legions of individuals who have worked hard to prosper and made this country a success. The government can bring in all the motivational tools it wants, they mean dick all if entrepreneurs and workers are not there to use them and make them work. The government should an enabler. What we don't need is a government that stifles growth, research and development, and innovation. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers

What those laws are aimed at and what they are used for are two different things. It is called unintended consequences. I will give you two examples. 1)Ontario's "racing law" . What is being used for now? Speeders, not racers. Intially brought in to curb street racing like I have outside my office on a saturday. (tune up shops all around) 2) 15 year old girl charged with making and posessing child porn. The only problem is she took pics of herself nude. She has been arrested and is currently detained. (very interesting case too) Do you think the framers of those laws intended this? I can be reasonably sure your guns are for the stated purpose. But does an crwon attorney know that? Could the hypothetical ex wife make a case to a CA and get you arrested? I dont want to find out. Quote

I hear what you are saying..........and i don't really like the idea of some of our rights being infringed upon.......................but 9/11 changed the world we live in and there is no going back ever.............the Terrorist's will at some point try to hit Canada because of our involvement in the war on terrorism...........we have to find these people and destroy them or detain them......there is no other way we are a Country at war.......and in war rules need to be broken to defeat the enemy!! As far as a ex-wife filing a complaint that can happen now........if an angry spouse calls the Firearms Center.........the police would take your guns so fast it would make your head spin it can be a good thing or bad thing there are some really unbalanced people out there that goes crazy in a split up............. in alot of these cases they look for a history of violence for a specific individual. One does not beget the other. ..........we have to find these people and destroy them or detain them......there is no other way we are a Country at war.......and in war rules need to be broken to defeat the enemy!!
