I don't think they are content to keep their mouths shut, they have been ordered to keep their mouths shut. Harper knows that the conservative talent pool is very shallow, so in order for his party to be pallatable to the Canadian public at large he has to keep his followers from exposing the party for what they really are. If the Canadian people heard what Harper's people really think about the issues that face this country in the new millenium they would quickly realize how out of touch with reality the conservative base really is.

Why don't we take our tinfoil hats off for a second and look at things for what they are.

The 'media' is not looking for hard facts or 'news' as we sometimes call it. The media is looking for 'stories' and shock value. This election has been more about which party members are being fired/forced to resign than it has been about election issues and it's DEFINETLY not just the conservatives blowing their own brains out with the press.

When the 'media' is full of sensationalists looking SPECIFICALLY for someone to say something stupid or do something scandalous, why feed them? They're not looking for feel-good news and they're not reporting on it. They're looking for and reporting about bad things.

Harper is in a good position already and he can only go down from here. Why risk playing the media game with the viscious idiots in charge of it???

Because the media and your political rivals determine what is 'stupid and scandalous'. Small jests never intended to be a true reflection of how a politician feels can get twisted and spun out of context and exaggerated tremendously.

Politics aren't really like businesses. Publicity generally works against you. No news is good news in politics and that's the smartest way to look at it.

Yes why should Harper risk letting the public find out what his Conservative party is all about? Much more effective to feed them propaganda, and hide his parties TRUE intentions.

If you want to know what the conservative party is all about go to www.conservative.ca and look for the party policy platform.

and you make the blind and foolish assumption that the media is not biased and fairly reports only the facts.

Like I said, the media wants to report glaring catastrophes and political bungles. Again, why give them the opportunity to twist and exaggerate your words when they're going to completely ignore everything intelligent and good you say?

Wait...yes...I forgot. In Dr. Greenthumb's opinion it's a travesty for someone he doesn't like to think and act intelligently.

Add another to the list of whines....."its the medias fault"

Only slightly better than "...but the Liberals"

So Donna Cadman was going to say something stupid? Is that why the RCMP keep the journalists away.

Maybe, just maybe, Harper doesnt want any of his members get Palinized. You know, found out as being out to lunch.

Yeah, okay. What are you smoking again?

If you're going to argue that the media is fair and reasonable and that they're NOT just looking to make people look bad then you're completely out to lunch. By the way, your "but the Liberals" thing is getting kind of old. This is an election. We're doing comparisons here. It's ridiculous to imply that making these comparisons somehow weakens an argument.

Palinized...haha. I seriously like that. Personally, I think Palin was a joke of a VP candidate and it's good that the Americans can see it, but you have to admit that the media has harrassed her. American 'freedoms' go a little too far sometimes and I think the media there has far too much freedom to destroy people's lives with harrasment, rumours, rhetoric and exaggerations than it really should have.

No I am not going to argue that. It just seems convenient that some of the CPC supporters whince about "unfair" media. I dont know what the CPC and their supporters expect when you mock the very people that could, with a well run campaign, get your message out.

Piss off the media...like using the RCMP to prevent questions being asked....you run the risk of being mocked.

And all parties are guilty of sticking their foot in their mouths and being targetted by the media.

I dont have to admit anything. Especially when I dont feel she has been harassed.Anyone who thinks living close to Russia suffices in the Foreign affairs dept deserves what she gets. She daily reminds people how little she knows.

Whats next...will she say she qualifies in that dept by going to an International House of Pancakes?*

They have the freedom to do what they want. They also have the freedom to answer charges of harrassment and exaggerations.American freedoms do not go too far.

The media isn't interested in anyone's message. Certain newspapers and television stations have very obvious political biases. They're also run by corporations looking for 'profit' and they've decided that the most profitable type of media is negative. Screaming mobs of journalists and reporters deserve to be mocked. Saying that journalists asking loaded questions should be at all times answered candidly is stupid not only because there are too many of these rabid dogs to possibly satisfy but also because as often as not they're going to twist whatever you say and turn it against you depending on their own party biases.

I didn't say she was qualified nor do I think McCain is either. I will wince for 3 months straight if the US re-elects the republicans. That doesn't mean that I don't think the media frenzy surrounding Palin is fair or reasonable.

If you think the media has to answer to charges of harrassment then you clearly don't have a freaking clue what goes on there. To qualify for harrassment a media person has to pretty much threaten or physically assault someone. If you think the media frenzy surrounding Britany Spears was fair then you're either blind or just a cold cold person.

Methinks you are too thin skinned.

I believe that falls under assault.

Considering I deal with media liability.....

Ms Spears brought 99.9% of her troubles on herself. Become #1 and make umpteen millions every year and one should expect what she got.

Cold..me cold? Stop talking to my girlfriend.

In Canada. Maybe there's a difference. Also, considering you deal in media liability, maybe I'm having a worthless argument with someone who has a vested interest in this sort of thing?

Right...be successful and you deserve having the bottom of the media scum bucket make your life a living hell. Bravo Guyser.

Not at all. Just that this sort of sutff didnt start with the announcement of the election. It has pretty much always been thus.

The Libs were mocked for stealing money, and rightfully so. So,it would seem that you have a problem with it now....since it is against your party.

Not much difference since I buy the coverage out of Kansas City and they tell me the policies are virtually identical.

My only "vested interest" is to maintain a "no claims " year. So you missed on that shot.

Right...be successful and you deserve having the bottom of the media scum bucket make your life a living hell. Bravo Guyser.

Wanna bet if you asked britany..."Hey Britany, here is your choice, (1) no media will ever come near you again , but you go back and live in the LA backwoods one step above trailer park trash.....or (2) keep earning millions and deal with the press .

Whats it going to be Britney?

Just a lil FYI...she reports income of $737,000 ..............per month. She can afford to deal with the same people and industry that generate that income.

The Media in North America do not make ANY money off of good news and unfortunately tons of the people here in North America (USA, Canada) lead boring normal lives thus they love excitement/ sensationalism to spice up their lives.

The media knows that and they only look at the bottom 5-10% of the barrel all the time because the bad apples sink to that level.

They control what we think, they provide us with our tinfoil beanies.

I choose to think and research for myself even when it means taking my elected represenative in Parliament out for lunch to find out the truth and I can say it been 3-4 years since I flew to Ottawa to go see people there to find out the facts that would affect my business but that is what the elected oficials are for: TO INFORM THEIR CONSTITUANTS (spelled that wrong I am sure, its late, I'm tired.)

The media hates people like me because I still know how to think for myself and I hate reality TV which is anything but reality!

So my challenge to you, dig and find the good that people in your political party are doing, then look at the other parties and see what good thier people are doing.

It might open your eyes to see the TOP 20-30% of the barrel.

**(We all know there are floaters in the middle that do nothing in the political arena so they will not be noticed so they can hopefully slide through for another term because no scandal came about and nothing they tried good backfired in their face.)

Wonderful maybe you can share some of these wonderful ideas they are afraid to bring public. There are good and wonderful people in all the parties. That is why I prefer to vote for the person instead of the party. There are good people in the press as well. Most journalist are interested in the truth.

When you go to lunch with these elected representatives make sure they are not telling you one thing but doing another. You ask around you may find they are good at sucking up to the person they are talking too. They are good at putting on a good public face.
