Liberals make jokes about murdering Stephen and Laureen Harper

In what has to be one of the most tasteless displays from the Liberal Party, this "joke" appearing in the official newsletter of the St Catharines Federal Liberal Association makes light of the deliberate murder of Stephen Harper and his wife, as discussed by schoolchildren.

That is just as bad as the Minister's comments. A party that is running for leadership of the country shouldn't talk that way. The only thing that mitigates it at all is the fact that the person saying it wasn't in government, unlike Ritz.

This was published in the newsletter of the St Catharines Federal Liberal Association. This was made public!

How do materials get published? Don't they get read and edited before getting printed?

Columnists on the CBC had agreed that Ritz does not deserved to be fired for his gaffe, which the columnists had labelled "dark humor." Yes it was an insensitive joke but it was done within a small group, knowing that it was a private meeting. He is guilty of being stupid.

The only reason it became public was because somebody leaked it out.

The Liberal joke of assasinating Harper and his wife was deliberately made public when they printed and circulated it through that newsletter! There's nothing accidental about that!

If this were a murder trial, I'd say these Liberals are guilty of the first degree. They have the motive, the intention and the time to make the planning.

Actually, everything that I've seen suggests that the media wants the Cons to win. There media in this country is not left-wing; it is very corporate in its outlook.

The only reason that Harper could be getting more flak is because Harper has traditionally been hostile and antagonistic towards the media. They don't like PMs trying to control and manipulate what they report, so after two and a half years of his nonsense in this regard, it's payback time. It has nothing to do with political partisanship, although most Con supporters are so deluded by their strident ideological biases that they really just don't get it.

Bang-on re: the hostility from the media and payback

I also think nailing the frontrunners makes a good story and sells papers...Cons are not only ones media have lain in waiting for... ask Paul Martin

I just said it was terrible. You don't have to convince me. If anything it borders on inciting hatred.

This sort of juevenile crap goes on all the time, that is why is doesn't get reported. Elements of the BQ have done this sort of thing for years and it doesn't really make the national press (except maybe the mocking of Chretian's disability). It is not really news. Nobody really cares to read about it.

On the other hand, you have a Minister faced with a public health crisis where people are dying and he makes crude jokes and appears more interested in the political fallout. That is news.

You then have the Prime Minister appear to shift the blame to the whistleblowers. Again, thats news. Maybe not important news, but it is emotional news.

Most Media is PRIVATELY owned by large corporations.

What on earth is that supposed to mean?

RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS

If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us

On Earth it means that very wealthy private individuals own the majority of the media in Canada, and as the very wealthy benefit most from Harper policies, the media bias is mostly biased in favour of the conservatives. For example the chorus radio network should probably be renamed the conservative campaign network.

oh...in that case you are wrong. Wrong on ownership and wrong on bias and wrong on Chorus (sic)

Corus is a public company.

Torstar is a public company.

Canwest is a public company.

Quebecor is a public company

Bell Globemedia is a public company.

Rogers is a public company.

For example the chorus radio network should probably be renamed the conservative campaign network.

Then stop listening to CFNY....
