sharkman Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 I once heard a pretty nice pair of floor standing Bose speakers, and they were pretty good sounding. I have little idea of what tricks they play with sound waves, but for me the bottom line is the sound. Quote

Their upper end products are pretty amazing especially the home theatre stuff, but for what they cost you could hire a band. guyser Posted June 26, 2008 Report Posted June 26, 2008 I shall have an opinion to offer after this weekend. Someone just dropped off a Bose SoundDock as a thank you gift. (not bad I guess) Damn, there's french and spanish printing on the package. What is this country coming to? Quote

AngusThermopyle Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 Honestly, I don't really care for Bose. The Brits make some of the best speakers and components around, Missions are good and KEF are outstanding. For entry level audiophile components its hard to beat Rotel. Canada has a good reputation amongst the high end crowd for excellent speakers, I always wanted some Mirage's myself. The Dahlquist, as mentioned were very good as well. I use Klipsh Pro Media Ultra's on my computer, they're not bad, not audiophile by any stretch of the imagination though. I am thinking about going to M-Audio's for the computer though, they're about the best you can get for computers. I like to keep my audio and computer systems seperate. sharkman Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 Dancer, just in case you were still considering Bose, they are now carried by crutchfieldcanada.com. I don't know if the prices are any better, but they seem to have a pretty full line up. Quote
GostHacked Posted July 13, 2008 Report Posted July 13, 2008 Obviously you are unfamiliar with acoustimass.also, Bose does not make stand alone amplifiers/receivers. However they did produce stand alone speakers that needed an amp. If you are looking for Canadian speaker manufacturers, deal with Paradigm and PSB. From the UK, Mission for sure (my 5.1 set up is all missions but the sub, it is a Polk Audio) I gave up my Paradigms for the Missions !! BC. it is having a good ear, and good hearing. I have walked into many stores and instantly shuddered with a chill down my back because something does not sound right. Also.. heheh one car audio shop had this old thunderbird,,, back seat ripped out to make a box that holds 3 15" subs, 4 6" two ways in the doors.... I sat in it .. cringed and got out .. one guy says 'huhuhu too loud for you??' .. I replied .. 'nope it sounds like utter shit'. Out of the 4 in each door, they were places so low on the door, and so far back, 3 were basicly firing sound under the front seat. Wow it was horrible. Angus, I bought an M-Audio card for my PC, and loooooove it. Does not pick up on the internal clicks and whirs of a PC like the on board sound does. For the same price as a fancy shmancy Bose, you can get a better system, that sounds better. Just need to put some time an effort into listening to many speakers. Also listening to them in the audio shop will sound different when you get those same speakers home. Quote
