Topaz Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 Today in London England, Harper is supporting nuclear power instead of coal-burning power for a cleaner environment. Didn't he cancel Ontario's money for nuclear power to replace the coal-burning energy Martin had in his last budget, which the Cons cancelled?????? Quote

Didn't he cancel Ontario's money for nuclear power to replace the coal-burning energy Martin had in his last budget, which the Cons cancelled?????? Dunno but I doubt it. The Ontario Liberals have only been in power about 4 or 5 years. They have not yet had a chance to forumalate a policy, much less make any plans on what power plants to build or when or where or how to build them. I think they're planning on rolling out some designs around the year 2050 or so. Michael Hardner Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 To be fair, Harris didn't do much better with the energy file. I don't know about Rae. Of the 3 latest premiers, I think Eves had the best insight. Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase ! Michael Hardner

I know the Con cancelled the money which was going to Ontario for a new nuclear generator because it has been pointed out several times in question period. Quote
madmax Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 Why would we want anymore Nuclear Boondoggles? These are costly, often down, we are still paying for many built back in the day. Cost overruns are astronomical. They aren't cheap, and if one takes time to look at the creating of a Nuclear site, the Carbon Footprint (According to environmentalists,) is larger then a Coal facility. But really, they provide bad value for their money. Nuclear has been around for many decades, never catches on, and no solutions have been found on what to do with the waste, other then store it in my community. Seems the Nuclear Lobby is now got to the Cons. Quote

Nuclear power generates 38% of europes electricity with France topping the list with 78% coming from reactors. It's safe and it doesn't foul the air. Ontario has been burdened by failed reactors, underproducing reactors, many offline and over budget for over 30 years. While capable of producing lots of power, we are still paying the start up costs of those reactors, each and every month, and I pay while they are producing nothing but darkness. Regardless of that... The latter statement by you are challenged and these are Not "my" facts. The details of Nuclear being clean, is challenged by environmentalists in this link. http://72.14.205.104/search?q=cache:-LiOxY...;cd=2&gl=ca There are environmental activists in these forums. I await to hear from them.....and I am already TAXED on the TAX of the NUCLEAR Generators debt  Quote

That doesn't prove ALL reactors would be over budget and mismanaged, just the ONTARIO run reactors we've had so far! Screw 'em! Lot's of other folks make reactors with as good or better safety records and much better financial credentials. So let's buy from one of them.
