HisSelf Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 The LCBO has reported that Wine and Vodka sales are up - each of them around 10%. If you've got money, you buy wine and if you don't, you go Russki. Tough times ahead for Ontario? Quote ...
M.Dancer Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 The up tick in vodka is directly related to the currently fashionable upmarket martinis like cosmos, lychee and alike. Brands like Grey Goose are very popular as well as being expensive.... LCBO sales rose 5.5 per cent to a record $4.1 billion for the year ending March 31 as consumers continued to "trade up" to more expensive brands, the provincially owned agency noted in its annual statement. Still, it was the government-owned liquor chain's second-slowest rate of growth in sales in eight years. http://www.thestar.com/Business/article/428444 I would say your hypothesis is somewhat off. capricorn Posted May 22, 2008 Report Posted May 22, 2008 The LCBO has reported that Wine and Vodka sales are up - each of them around 10%. I wonder what percentage of the increased sales is attributable to the bottle deposit brought in last February. Wouldn't that in itself account for higher sales numbers? We're talking lots of bottle deposits province-wide. Ontarians will start paying a 10- or 20-cent deposit on wine and liquor containers in February, as the province introduces a deposit fee in an attempt to boost recycling.http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...hub=TorontoHome Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. I imagine it is zero because in the end, for every 20 cents they collect, the pay 20 cents.... The winos are gainfully employed gleaning the recycling bins of those too lazy to bring back their empties...yoiu can see them outside the beer store at almost any hour with their carts and $40 worth of bottles... Topaz Posted May 23, 2008 Report Posted May 23, 2008 Since grains prices are up and will keep going up so is beer prices and they could be double by the end of June, just in time for the summertime drinking. The bars may feel the pinch when people decide to buy their booze and stay home. Quote
