Topaz Posted March 28, 2008 Report Posted March 28, 2008 The oppositions parties we invited to the NATO Summit for next week but yesterday, they got a letter saying they are not welcomed now. The letter says its NATO uninviting the parties BUT, the the Lib critic called NATO and they said they didn`t know anything about it. So It looks like that Harper and McKAy don`t want the opposition parties there and the question is WHY? Is there more going on with Afghanistan war that they don`t want them there? Again this government of Harpers is hiding things from Canadians. Quote

Sorry for the confusion," Throop wrote in an email Wednesday.Pairing is the parliamentary custom of matching a travelling government MP to an opposition member so that no one party is disadvantaged in the event of a vote in the House of Commons. http://www.thestar.com/News/Canada/article/404846 Who would really want to bring an NDPer to one of these? Topaz Posted March 29, 2008 Author Report Posted March 29, 2008 The NDP may or may not ever reach the PMO but they are there and they do bring up good questions for the seating government and I would like to know why the government changed it mind, wouldn`t you??? Quote
Sean Hayward Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 The NDP may or may not ever reach the PMO but they are there and they do bring up good questions for the seating government and I would like to know why the government changed it mind, wouldn`t you??? No. I think it's perfectly clear. If you were trying to run a legitimate government on the world stage, would you want some opposition groups following you around, embarassing your government, second-guessing your decisions, and being a general nuissance? They are trying to avoid a situation like the climate change conference in Bali, where Dion followed John Baird around and constantly criticized his positions. Quote

I imagine questions about seating would be the limit of the NDPs comeptence. I would definately have them plan a wedding.... Wild Bill Posted April 5, 2008 Report Posted April 5, 2008 Of course not. They're the opposition -- not the cheerleaders. They are indeed the Opposition - within Canada's Parliament. A NATO summit is NOT Canada's Parliament! It is an international meeting, where it is expected that each nation presents a united view from its government, which represents its people. Our Opposition obviously sees these international meetings as an opportunity to embarrass the sitting government, to score cheap points at home. This may or may not work, I dunno. I DO know that it makes us look cheap and petty on the world stage! Thanks a lot, Dion! Yet again!
