It just keeps getting better......

The US Supreme Court appears ready to rule that Americans have a constitutional right to keep a gun in their home for self-defence, a ruling that could help Republicans in the upcoming presidential election.

Hearing the most important gun rights case in nearly 70 years, the justices on Tuesday spent 98 minutes engrossed in a lively debate about British and American legal traditions relating to the right to bear arms, especially in self-defence.

Another report:

Now I know this may be a bit insensitive for our "neighbours" in Toronto who are having a hatefest over handguns right now, but what would we do with all the bullets?

I don't know how it will help, but it's looking like they'll need all the help they can get.

That's what they said in 2004 too!

But if you don't understand why it helps Republicans, then you are not an American...natch.

In addition, this ruling would keep the rate of home invasions down substantially. Score one for the average law abiding citizen.

Wow! Up here, the House of Commons would debate it for 2 months then a parliamentary committee would study the question for 6 months, a royal commission would spend 2 years on the question only to come with the same recommendations as the committee, then the report would be shelved.

Now I know this may be a bit insensitive for our "neighbours" in Toronto who are having a hatefest over handguns right now, but what would we do with all the bullets?

Well you could always melt them down into the form of candy dishes, like they did in the 70s with 78rpm records.

Well I can tell you that here in Ottawa, well me anyways, support this clarification. I have no problem with people owning guns, or even multiple guns, even handguns. I have been considering purchasing one myself. I used to shoot the rifles with my dad out at the gun range.

One has to respect the gun and what it can do. Treat it like it is loaded all the time, and you will minimize the problems. I recall one day my dad was cleaning the rifle. Everything was apart and I picked up the gun and looked down the barrel (was not loaded, and the pin was laying on the table) I got my ass chewed out large for that. I remember it pretty clear. I treat the gun with respect.

Again, I have no problem with people owning a gun. I also support extensive criminal checks for new gun owners purchasers. I also support some kind of psychological profile of a person before they are given a gun.

Everyone has the right, but not everyone should. There are some who do not have common sense when it comes to a firearm. You hear often enough about a child getting a hand on the gun (whereever it was stored) and they end up killing a sibling/parent or themselves. At this point the owner of the gun (probably an imediate family member) should be charged and sent off to the slammer for some chill time.

Guns do not kill people. People kill people. And we have been doing it long before guns ever came to be on this planet. Guns just make the killing easier. So never question the gun, but consider the person holding it.

"What is reasonable about a total ban on possession?" Chief Justice John Roberts asked.

Surely there's the rub. It's not a law that keeps guns out of the hands of felons, nutters, kids. It bans all of them. Is that reasonable? IMO, no.

If the men do not die well it will be a black matter for the king that led them to it.

we should do the same here in Canada.

That way we'd know that all gangbangers have 'em and the police wouldn't have to "guess" whether or not they are packing and could shoot them on sight.

I am for it.

And the young teen that threatened a mall manager and sprayed silly string in her face and wrote graffiti on the walls yesterday -- she could have simply shot her. Done.

Of course the teen wouldn't be spraying silly string all over the mall -- she would've been spraying bullets -- nonetheless it would be a great excuse to take out a useless piece of skin imo.

We all need handguns.

Dont worry ...we arent. Those are policiticians that are being heard by the media and are being ignored by the rest of us.

Drea, another one of your "you just dont get it" posts. Consistent.

The young teen could have easily had a gun , our currents laws and future laws would not prevent him from getting one. He will when he wants , or if he does, get an illegal gun bought on the street.

But hey, dont let thinking get in your way.

IF handguns were as prolific here as they are in the states I would expect this teen would have been carrying one... she DID threaten the mall manager -- she said 'My daddy is a Hells Angel and he's gonna kill you!".

Mall manager would be dead if guns were prolific -- as a daughter of an angel...she would have one... For sure.

But I am all for guns. We should all have one. We should all shoot a person (or get shot) at least once in our lives -- it's not really free living if we don't (according to some).

Do you understand facetious?

Yes I do.

Do you understand as a daughter of an Angel she could have taken one from her house. Ouch....nothing like throwing it back at ya is there.

Are you as much of a fanatic on this issue too?
