In national elections, high schools often have mock votes that are supposed to be representative of a real election. Consistantly, the Greens always are either 1st or second among high school students, with the CONservatives coming in last place.

Suppose that the trend continues when the students graduate and become voters. Do you think Elizabeth May would be a prime minister within the next 20 years?

Not surprizing. The kids are not out working - they are supported by Mom and Dad's dollars.

Tunes very often change when they actually have to work for a living. Try paying the rent when you have another high percentage "green" tax added to your salary.

And lets see how happy that wage earner is when that money goes to another country to support some supposed green initiative that will never benefit your over taxed wallet directly.

Cash for life to another country - for nothing in return?

I suspect they will change their tune. Just another green media "not so hidden" agenda.

It's interesting how voting patterns can change when students turn into wage earners and taxpayers. The green movement will continue to grow but enough to form a national government? Not on that issue alone.

At 16 they look through green coloured glasses. At 25, they see life through red coloured glasses. At 50 they come to their senses and switch to blue.

Get real. That would make her what? 74 year old I think? Now if you're talking her grandaughter....maybe. But thankfully I won't be around to see it.

I don't mean to let the facts get in the way of such a riveting post but you may want to give reality some consideration.

By now you've seen a number of posts explaining how the political opinions of an adolescent rarely stay the same as he matures. This is not at all surprising. Most adolescents are running on simple intelligence that has not yet been tested with experience. They've not yet learned that logic is merely a tool of thinking. You can logically prove anything if you only deal with supporting facts or evidence and are blissfully ignorant of anything that could prove contradictory.

However, your question was actually "Do you think Elizabeth May would be a prime minister within the next 20 years?" This is quite another "fish kettle"! You're asking if she personally has what it takes to attract the majority of the nation's electoral votes.

Elizabeth seems like a nice lady but as I like to say she appears to have dropped all hard sciences in school shortly after her beans failed to sprout out of that jar full of tissue paper! What's more, politically she seems more interested in knocking out Harper by supporting Dion than in winning seats for her OWN party!

No, she will only attract the die-hard Green fanatics, who would vote for a cardboard box as long as it was painted Green.

The truth of the matter is that the Green Party had to have formed the government 20 to 25 years ago and maintained power ever since in order to implement all of its policies; Canada at least would be in a position where it is not a significant contributor to the current environmental crisis.

How's that for mixed metaphors?

Correct me if I'm wrong but unless we become the North American Union she can't be PM because she was born in the USA. Of course, there are people who say that Mulroney may as well have been an American after help Bush bring in the NATFA and helped the Carlyle Group become Billionaires.

That's an American rule. There is no such Canadian rule.

I think it was Churchill that once said, "If you are not a socialist by 20, you have no heart. But if you are not a capitalist by 40, you have to brains."

The quote is...

"If you're not a liberal when you're 25, you have no heart. If you're not a conservative by the time you're 35, you have no brain."

And he never uttered it.
