What about the fact it's gas fired powerplant? I read some interesting information here: abetterenergyplan.ca "The competition for gas supplies will undoubtedly lead to higher gas prices. According to the Ontario Power Authority, even neighbouring jurisdictions are concerned about the rapid growth in Ontario's natural gas consumption."

I've been to many and consulted with many others. And since I frequent reserves all over Ontario on a regular basis I have a pretty good idea on where the money is coming from for all the new buildings that the Natives are building. The Health Centres and other government infrastructure is coming mostly from the Rama Fund and Trillion Foundation grants. However, the new variety stores, the new ATV sales the new clothing stores etc. are from re-investment of tobacco profits. Most of the natives I talk to are aware that the tobacco industry is just a short term benefit. So they are taking their profits and re-investing in long-term businesses. Some are even putting a little aside for their own community meal programs, making sure that everyone gets fed. There are many intelligent business people involved not only in the tobacco industry, but in other businesses and most of them have some major centres they market to close by. The advantage of buying goods and services on reserve isn't only getting them tax-free, but they often have lower wages which bring the overall costs lower than mainstream businesses. And most of what I get is much better quality because those business care about keeping their customers satisfied so people like me will frequent their establishments.

One place the money doesn't come from is the sweat and energy of the Six Nations.

Did you know that the Six Nations got their land from the Queen, and have no aboriginal rights? Hmmmm?

That is patently false!

The Crown received permission from Six Nations to occupy "certain countries, islands and territories" in southern Ontario in 1763 but Six Nations has never lost control. Without Six Nations and the Silver Covenant Chain Treaty with the British, the French would likely still be in Ontario and Quebec or in the confusion the US would have won the war of 1812.

Take a look at the Mitchell Map 1757. It recognizes that all of southern Ontario was Six Nations territory. The map that accompanied the Royal Proclamation 1763 also clearly shows that southern Ontario was Six Nations lands. So the question is, when was it surrendered by Six Nations? The answer: NEVER. And according to the Royal Proclamation 1763 the British (or Canadians) could not occupy, use, purchase or settle upon any "Indian lands", "not ceded to or purchased by us". The Canadian government doesn't want this to get out but the courts are doing a fine job at offering the forum for the real history of Canada to come out.

Of the land that Canada claims sovereignty over, some 83% has never been surrendered by First Nations, nor have they capitulated or been defeated by Canada or the British. We have a long way to go before we do enter into the treaties necessary to call ourselves a nation. But with First Nations having access to qualified and experienced constitutional lawyers there is not much hope that we can win in court. So our only hope is in negotiating and accommodating First Nations interests. Unfortunately we do not hold the upper hand we once believed we did and First Nations, with their right to resources and land are holding most of the good cards.

Ignore the natives and build where ever we want. If they won't stop occupying land, they perceive as theirs then remove them, if they return arrest them and throw them in jail as the police would any person breaking the law. No racial group should be above the law.

The natives perceive any land they want to be theirs, we mustn't allow this to go any longer. We must start arresting these trespassers and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law or else they will keep doing it.

If they know they'll land in jail they'll do it less. People need to be treated like puppies, when they do something bad hit their nose with a rolled up newspaper and sooner or later they'll learn how they're to behave.

The general public cannot get away with this so neither should these people. One law for all.

We need more power. Our hunger for electronic devices will only grow. The socialists posting here right now are doing so on PCs that are made of materials that harm the Earth and they are connecting to the web using so called "dirty power"

Hypocrites.

I see reality still escapes you.....

All of southern Ontario is still under the jurisdiction of Six Nations. The law (you remember what that is don't you?) requires that the government consult, negotiate, accommodate and reconcile with Six Nations (or other First Nations) before development takes place. But since you are a lawless individual, I wouldn't expect you to understand that.

The general public has no say in what goes on in this country. At least natives have a chance at stopping all the destructive development that has been taking place. Certainly, I can't see anyone being afraid of or against beneficial developments so long as we have complied with the law first.

So.... are you still a convict?

Well I suppose human excrement is a valuable resource which remains untapped. I'd be more adept to categorize that as renewable;) But what I'm saying is that natural gas simply isn't sustainable... It's really just a band-aid solution and creates more CO2. This obviously doesn't help us in the long run... here's a more direct/relevant link on the same site about Ontario's natural gas situation: http://www.abetterenergyplan.ca/the_plan_gas.php A few good points on the risks that natural gas is subject to that the article brings up are:

  • -supply;
    -price volatility;
    -pipeline infrastructure requirements driven by the new gas plants; and
    -potential price impacts for other gas users e.g., residential home heating and industry.

Just a little side information for further thought on the subject of building this power plant.

I think the folks there should build the power plant and start making some money for themselves. Perhaps even get off of the revolving welfare system that First Nations seem to be stuck on.

IT might be better than them going into crimminal enterprise which is the gambling industry..even though it is legal it is really a parasitic way to make money. IF this power plant is clean and sustainable and will NOT be taken over by other privateers in time I say build it. Instead of them being on welfare and getting money for what appears to be for free they could get money and create an upper class of rich natives that will abuse the poor ones - just like the gambling tycoons. Nope! No matter what - Natives are no different than us - the tough rise to the top on the backs of the poor.
