bush_cheney2004 Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 Torture has been defined as "any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person."Are you suggesting that Arar's imprisonment and what happened to him was not torture? If what happened to Arar in Syria constitutes torture, then many millions of us have been tortured. We've been tortured in grade school, university, local jails and penitentiaries, airliners, cruise ships, rock concerts, hospitals, and even day-care centers. The word "torture" has itself been abused to the point of making it meaningless and indistinguishable from mere inconvenience. There are human beings living under conditions that would make such "intentional torture" a welcomed experience. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Mental? Nope. No way. Next thing you know hurt feelings will be called torture, and the human rights commissions will have a whole new ball to play with. You should ask Harper to have Canada drop out of the U.N. convention on torture then because this is a quote from there. Quote

How about focusing on the "We've been tortured in grade school" claim? Do you find that absurd and absolutely ridiculous? Quote

No..."torture" in grade school is to be ignored as "completely ludicrous, not to mention blatantly false. Unbelievable. Absurd. Absolutely ridiculous". The 1" thick paddle with holes for streamlining was really just a clever way to massage our grade school asses. LOL! Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

First of all, no one ever laid a hand on me in school. That didn't happen in our public schools. Catholic schools, evidently it did happen. Ironic, eh? Secondly, I think Arar got more than the equivelant of a paddling, no matter how wrong that was. And it was wrong, which is why it's no longer allowed. And last but not least, are you going to tell me you were paddled on a cruise?? An airline? A hospital? Like I said, absolutely ludicrous et al. And once again-- there is a difference between abusive behavior and torture. Quote

It would indeed be torture by your own admission....state sponsored and executed on defenseless school children (in public schools)....in many states and provinces. Your experiences do not represent anything for others. We were tortured...where do we get $10 million + expenses? LOL! Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
AngusThermopyle Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 (edited) are you going to tell me you were paddled on a cruise?? An airline? Hmmm, where can I get a ticket for that cruise or airline? Do they wear rubber and leather? Edited January 24, 2008 by AngusThermopyle Quote I yam what I yam - Popeye
