Do they get the same government representation in the legislature, same voting rights, etc? Quote
M.Dancer Posted November 14, 2007 Author Report Posted November 14, 2007 (edited) You mean like someone who posts they came in second in race for the presidencey of the NDP? Omitting to mention there was only one other candidate? Thanks for the clarification. Mr dense please prove it.For some one preaching their memory skills you look rather silly. M.Dancer Posted November 14, 2007 Author Report Posted November 14, 2007 Do they get the same government representation in the legislature, same voting rights, etc? Yes absolutely. The biggest difference is that the provinces owe their creation to the BNA act while the territories to the Feds. Wilber Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 Do they get the same government representation in the legislature, same voting rights, etc? That's a good question. The do elect members to the Federal Parliament. They used to be governed almost totally by the Federal Government through a Commissioner. There is still a Commissioner (I think) but they now have their own legislatures and are steadily taking over more control of their local matters. The don't have the same powers when it comes to National and Constitutional matters however. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC

I put it down to the fact that your posts tend to be disjointed (pun intended) and often incomprehensible....but when I squeeze my brain with my hands and look at your initial statement, I see that the admission you came last comes a little after your statement you came second. Wow! I thank you for that. I am sorry for what ever I said to make you so hostile towards me in the first place. I will admit that because of my past to being yes defensive and just say that Yes I do lack grammar skills. You will never have that problem and that in real life Libra's are some of my best friends,,,,, It wasn't about any thoughts that I would win that election Mdancer I was , after being killed on the convention room floor in the first day and first hour , providing debate , education , frustration for and to all of us there. It reverberated across the whole ndp and I still hear about it. Laytons move to block me being a candidate again was also a very large mistake to some of us as we are organized and will be I believe showing this in the next election. It has already and will again show in the polls that what I and we did does matter to a lot of otherwise non voting types and I truly believe what I/we am/are doing will help our country and truly believe this is the way to go. Thanks for the having another look as my word does matter to me. I have to go work ,,,, Quote

Guest American Woman Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 You do know what the order of Canada actually is though, right? No. I don't know what that means. Quote
Smallc Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 No. I don't know what that means. The Order of Canada is Canada's highest civilian honour within the Canadian system of honours, with membership awarded to those who exemplify the Order's Latin motto Desiderantes meliorem patriam, which means "(those) desiring a better country" (Hebrews 11:16). Created in 1967, the Order was established to recognize the lifetime contributions made by Canadians who made a major difference to Canada. The Order also recognizes efforts made by non-Canadians who have made the world better by their actions. Musicians, politicians, artists, television and film stars, benefactors, and many more have been accepted into the Order. The Queen of Canada, Queen Elizabeth II, is Sovereign of the Order and the serving Governor General of Canada is its Chancellor and Principal Companion. Since its inception, 5,268 people have been appointed to the Order of Canada. Wikipedia Quote

Smallc Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 (edited) GradesThere are three grades (levels) of the Order of Canada: Companion (highest), Officer, and Member, each with respective post-nominal letters that its members are entitled to use. Promotions in grade are possible; typically, this is not done until at least five years after the initial appointment. For example, film director Denys Arcand was promoted from Officer to Companion.[6] Originally, the Order had only two ranks, Companion and two medals, the Medal of Courage (now the Cross of Valour)[7] and the Medal of Service. On July 1, 1972, the levels of Officer and Member were introduced and all existing holders of the Medal of Service were made Officers. (The Medal of Courage had never been awarded.) [edit] Companions Companions of the Order of Canada (post-nominal: C.C.) have demonstrated the highest degree of merit to Canada and humanity, on the national or international scene. Up to 15 Companions are appointed each year, with a limit of 165 living Companions at any given time, with the exception of honorary Companions.[8] As of February 20, 2007, there were 168 living Companions, including four honorary Companions.[9] However, the Governor General is the Chancellor and Principal Companion of the Order,[10] and thus with the appointment of Michaëlle Jean to the position of Governor General she became the 164th living Companion. The Constitution of the Order of Canada also allows for the spouse of the Governor General to be appointed a Companion, so Jean-Daniel Lafond is the 165th living Companion. On February 20, 2007, Rideau Hall announced that Richard Drouin, Joseph Gosnell, and Ron Southern had been promoted to the rank of Companion.[11] [edit] Officer Officers of the Order of Canada (O.C.) have demonstrated an outstanding level of talent and service to Canadians. Up to 64 Officers are appointed each year. As of September 29, 2005, there were 1,006 living Officers, although there is no limit to how many may be living at one time.[12] [edit] Member Members of the Order of Canada (C.M.) have made an exceptional contribution to Canada or Canadians at a local or regional level, group, field or activity. As many as 136 Members may be appointed annually and there is no limit on how many Members may be living. As of September 29, 2005, there were 1,964 living members.[13] Wikipedia Companion Picture Officer Picture Memeber Picture Edited November 14, 2007 by Smallc Quote
Pliny Posted November 15, 2007 Report Posted November 15, 2007 A missed opportunity ? How? You keeping score for me? hmmmYou need to understand that as I know how those who post their scores from these types of things are really quite insecure deep down and are just like little insecure children needing and craving something that in all reality I know is not nor never quenched by these attempts results. To me some one posting how smart they may be ,,well it is a sure sign to me that something is definitely missing. mdancer I understand as I know his birthday curse.(justice?) Some call me a genius , some an ass. None of any other's persons comparisons of me matters to me obviously and I wouldn't even know about their thoughts if not for my wife. I have spent time in places like palliative care rooms , hospitals and even jails , that would show you and teach you that all the smarts in the world pale in comparison to some one with a great big heart! Those are the ones worth knowing and remembering. I would be to embarrassed to tell all of you my actual IQ results (from jobs I have had) Because to me its really all irrelevant if one can not even be emotionally smart because of it or say to me because of it (you so called good memory types) that you remembered to call your folks , give to the food bank this week or visited some lonely dying old lady wandering the hospital wing looking for her visiting children that never come and may already be dead themselves. Smart to me is putting people above ones ego. Stories of soothing peoples pains that way , well I would love to read all about here but only because of your anonymity(do good silently as to voice it is payment) I guess I shouldn't have said anything here ,, about how smart or not smart I am as to those that need that measure ,I am quite sure it will be shown over time. As far as my memory ,hmm I would say I am in fact cursed with almost a photographic memory on some things sadly and that if one of you knows what I mean by that statement , well yes it really can almost be a curse. Ignorance is bliss isn't it? Not many ever become aware of the fact they have missed an opportunity. Being an insecure child, should I worry about another's thoughts of me? You don't want to express how smart you are or are not but you do want us to know how caring you are. Is that similar? I don't doubt your ability, your posts seem rather fluid, facile and intelligent but you have an attitude and an addiction. I feel certain you will argue you have neither. Smart has nothing to do with tests, especially IQ tests, or memory; as you have attested. It has more to do with one's ability to accomplish what he desires to accomplish usually relating to continuing to live an eventful life with all the risks and challenges. I guess you are too proud to say how smart you are but not too proud to allude to it. Quote I want to be in the class that ensures the classless society remains classless.
shavluk Posted November 15, 2007 Report Posted November 15, 2007 (edited) You got me hahhahaha. Hey give me a break here will you I am only trying to do what should be done,,,picture shrek or ,,hmm evil roy slade kind of guy. Its tuff! I never said I was perfect, just trying to be. Trust me I am no butterfly hahha.(meaning I stumble through life maybe more than most) Edited November 15, 2007 by shavluk Quote
