Topaz Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 The firat national fitness test and 1000 failed, of the 47,000 men and women in the military. The test consisted of shuttle runs, pushups and situps and handgrip strength. The standards are based on age and gender with males under 35 doing 19 pushups but a women the same age doing 9. Males over 35, do 17, while women 12. Among the pporer preformers were warrant officers, 53 out of 1408 for a failure rate of 3.8%, the highest of all in non-reserve ranks. 80 officers higher than colonel flunked also. Army members were the most fit, then the air force. Does this surprise anyone?? Quote
old_bold&cold Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 And this has what to do with fereal politics? It would seem more like a health issue at best. Quote
M.Dancer Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 That 46,000 passed? No.....when I was in the militia and in the depot platoon, the slightest miscue was paid in pushups and situp or for extreme stupidity, the olympic swim...... I fearfully remember giving the M/cpl 100 sit ups...... When told about a colonel who not only joined his men on a forced run in the Highlands, but made lall the senior officers run as well...Churchiull was shocked, it is one thing to make a jr grade keep up with the ranks but quite another to make 40 and 50 year old officers keep up with 20 year old....Churchill thought (correctly) that senior officers were there because of their brain power, not their muscle power..... Army Guy Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 The fitness test describe below is the minimum standard for the entire armed forces called the express test.... Anyone could pass this test....or should be able to... the Army has a tougher one called the BFT (Battle fitness test) it consists of a 13. km rucksack march with 55 lb of kit which includes ruck ,wpn, and tac vest and helmet to be completed in 2 hours and 26 mins. at the end of this march you must carry a person of equal size over your shoulder for 100 meters, and then dig a trench in 6 mins....even that is not so bad. Everyone in the army must pass this test to declared fit and deployable....failure to pass this test means no tours, and could mean carear implications...if you pass this test you are not required to take the express test... As for the Officers, everyone in the army must pass this test there are no exception, OK perhaps flag officers....but normally they all are required to do it and pass it...In battle leaders lead from the front can't do that if you can't keep up with the young bucks...being fit is a must, atleast in the army, regardless of age. Moxie Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 One only has to drive by the bus station at Stad in Halifax to see how unfit a majority of the Naval Personel are. Me thinks soup call should be retired in favor of PT call. Quote Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy

Army members were the most fit, then the air force. Does this surprise anyone?? Actually it does not surprize me. It is a tempest in a tea pot. Of 47,000 people, 1,000 failed. I think that is pretty good average. Running at around 2%. Remedial action could lower that to less than 1%. When I consider the long hours some spend at their desks in order to ensure "beans, bullets and blood" get purchased, stored and delivered I think the military has done quite well. I doubt there are many large companies that could match this fitness level. Imagine their reduced healthcare costs and the amount of increased productivity. Yeah, I know the military needs to be able to go to war. But less than 5% actually do. The remainder are typical Canadians doing their job under tougher circumstances. Topaz - could you pass the BFT? Bet less than half the readers here could do it. Yet the receptionist and the clerk on the battalion need to. Those little girls are pretty capable. I might add they look damn fine in a short skirt as well. Perhaps a few other ladies on this board might consider the potentials of working out ........ Borg Quote
