  1. Well FTA, I don't know what type of law your involved in, but out of curiosity, have you ever been to a prision? (I don't mean this condescendingly, I just haven't and want a first hand opinion). I agree with most prisons that its not a great experience I'm sure. Knowing that, there is also prisions like those minimum security ones in BC that are kind of a joke. I also see the point of gives these inmates something to do, in order to make things more secure for the guards, which is priority one in my books. Being held against your will (arguably, you did choose to commit a crime with a prision term as punishment) is quite the punishment I agree. But your life behind bars shouldn't be more comfortable than your life outside, otherwise people will just keep coming on back.
  2. Yup thats me. George Dubbya is my homeboy.
  3. Well I don't like it either, and I'm pretty outspoken against the gay agenda. However, the jokes about gay sex and stuff is questionable. Theres ways to deal with things in a legal minded, moral perspective, and a way to deal with things where people just get angery and defensive. Lets keep it clean please, I agree with you Spike in principle, but I don't agree with those kind of slurs and attacks.
  4. Well saying all regions have them is lying outright, Canada doesn't have mines, niether does the US... I hate when otherwise good causes over-exaggerate things to prove their point. They are a problem however. I don't see the big deal with banning them, I don't think mines are that good of a strategic weapon against most armies that transport troops with planes and the such anyways.
  5. Spike doesn't represent anyone's point of view with his ridiculous childish attacks.
  6. Health Care is taboo in Canada. Say private care and all the old ladies freak out. It's worse than yelling fire in a theatre. The Supreme Court has already ruled that wait times are unconstituational. So now we wait to see how the government changes that. I myself have thought about taking out American health insurance in case I got seriously ill, in which case I'd much rather drive my ass to Montana for care then wait 12 months in Canada.
  7. Well unless someone else steps up quick, it's likely to be Brison.
  8. For Alberta autonomy=money.
  9. Unionized workers are paid not to see past the end of their nose. If they saw themselves as a factor of production they'd realise that $30-40 an hour for unskilled labour is limiting their life expectancy. Once you see past it, you realise robbing the rich to feed the less rich makes everyone poor at the end of the day. Unions can't have that, its all screw the man, power to the proletariat. The NDP should stop kidding themselves and just change their motto to "Workers, all you have to lose is your chains!"
  10. It's taxes here that make it expensive. Refineries pay pretty much the same for crude anywhere in the world. It's the same with any commodity. We don't refine enough locally either, so we have to pay pipeline and transport costs on top of refinery costs, so that adds to the problem.
  11. I think he meant unarmed and you read it wrong.
  12. Betsy, I admire you for taking on this argument so long. I really have never seen someone sustain a position so adamently. You've brought to the table tons of sources, some from even the other side of the argument supporting your claims. Your right, but your going to have a hard time convincing these people so set in their support of special interest agendas. And Black Dog, egale and ILGA are giant powerful gay power agendas. It's all about power, I'd wouldn't be suprised if you looked inside these organizations, you'll see people pushing personal agendas in the name of a minority group.
  13. Lets get back on topic, of how immoral Clinton is... Remember, its a national leaders responsibility to act as a good role model to the rest of the country. Clinton committed purgery, had no respect for the justice system (or he wouldn't have lied) and constantly cheated on his wife. What a role model eh? If the President does it, everyone should be doing it.
  14. The breakdown you'd see, probably, in Quebec is: Federalists=Dion Soft Nationalists=Harper Hardcore Separatists=Duceppe I see the death of the Bloc not too far away. Blind Federalists= Dion Soft Nationalists= Harper Hardcore Separatists= Marginalized
  15. Are you serious? Transgender surgeries are covered yet many cancer treatments are not? How ridiculous. It shows when a minority gets such status that nothing can oppose anything they do (or fear being labelled a bigot), how damaging it can be to our country. Transgender surgery is completely cosemetic, no one could actually make any argument to me that shows its medically neccessary. However, also remember that Quebec teenager that got breast implants paid for by the government because she didn't feel like her breasts her big enough. I really hope we get some leaders with a backbone across the board in this country soon. We are selling ourselves to little special interests left right and centre.
  16. Ontario... maybe the Maritimes if they see themselves losing the huge federal support they get.
  17. We have to wait until 2008 for a CPC majority? I just hope Harper can balance government out between Quebec and Alberta. You live in Alberta, right Shoop? Do you think Harper can please both provinces? More Provincial autonomy its favourable to both Quebec and Alberta. If theres two provinces that you could please at once, suprisingly I'd say it is those two.
  18. It's scary that people are actually still supporting the sepertists. Hopefully if Harper gives Quebec a bit, it'll end that notion at least for a few decades. If Harper can really appeal to Quebec, we might see the death of the Bloc soon, which would be a huge accomplishment for Canada.
  19. Agreed shoop. Maybe we can seperate normal urban from crazy liberal socialist urban (ie. ultra-multicultural urban)?
  20. Congrats Greg, I wish you and your family the best!
  21. "anti-Americanism" has to be put in context. America's supreme expertise is promotion which includes hype, mis-representation and sheer fantasy. Anyone who tries to inject any reality is immediately labelled as Anti-American when all that they are displaying is healthy scepticism rather than blind Groupthink. You then must put the criticism in context. When I drive down to Plattsburgh and I am in some bar or diner and I criticize Bush policy, the most likely response I'll get from an American liberal is agreement and from an American conservative is a political debate. Not once has anyone in the States ever called me "anti-American" or denied my right or some American liberal's right to criticize Bush policy. I think most Canadians, especially on the left, are reported exaggerated events in the states by a heavily left-leading MSM. I think you should keep your views as your own and I don't think you should be making comments about what "most Canadians" think. It's fine to express your opinions, but don't be so vane as to think that most Canadians share them. What are you talking about exactly?
  22. Belinda and Brison... those Liberals have alot of future I tell ya. Geoffrey, Your going to have to give me a warning you post those hilarious posts in the future...my computer screen can't take any more random bursts of me spitting out my drink... It's sad because thats the reality right now. I can just imagine Scott Brison crying in a leaders debate and Belinda standing there stunned when asked a simple question. I look forward to the comedy that will come out of the Liberals in the next campaign with one of them at the helm.
  23. If Québec is not part of Canada, it no longer pays income tax to Canada. This amount of money can then be paid to the Assemblée Nationale as income tax to the new Republic of Québec. This applies to other federal levies, such as Employment Insurance, GST, etc.Yeah, but the total additional 'tax' revenue is less than the amount transfers that go directly to Quebec today and pay Quebec's share of the national debt. So the Government of an independent Quebec will be bankrupt if it does not renege on the Canadian national debt. Obviously, the rest of the country would not meekly accept such an action so it is a very dangerous situation. If Quebeckers/Quebecois actually think they pay more in then they get out, they are misinformed. Quebec would be quite screwed financially by seperating.
  24. This sounds like a school project. Look up Tommy Douglas.
  25. Here, here. Any time someone claims to have found an unbaised news source what they really mean is they have found a news source that is biased exactly the way they like. The best we can hope for is a balanced news source that runs different pieces at different times that are biased in opposite ways. Exactly. Even if you have to change channels to get these different view points.
