The fish or the shoe? And does their soul disappear the day they get elected or something? Does the Queen suck it out with her evil soul sucking death ray?

Wow man, you must really have some good bud out in BC?

Do we need a Federal Election soon?
geoffrey replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
We need a majority. Things need to get done that just aren't getting done now. There is no direction, and these minorities are costly in terms of spending. We may spend ourselves broke if we don't have a majority of some kind soon, and that, requires an election. -
Dion and his Palace Guard in trouble
geoffrey replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Dion, one of the biggest traitors to Quebec and bold-faced liar on the environment? Your kidding right? Any attempt at saying he's an innocent old man with honest goals should be laughed at. He's a very clever, backstabbing guy, as good as the rest of them. You don't stand where he does by being nice. The rest, it's an act. -
Alberta oil thirst leading to disaster ?
geoffrey replied to jennie's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I don't think so. Ontario stills relies heavily on coal. Nuclear is non-renewable as well. Alberta and Saskatchewan are purely coal. Manitoba has some hydro, but they also don't even have a million people. BC has lots of hydro, but still some coal. Sure the Maritimes and Quebec use hydro, but it's hardly the environmentally happy thing that the Greenies portray. Export what? Who? Huh? Cheap but free? Free exports at a premium? You sir, are clueless. Or just misled. I prefer misled. Nah, reality is what is wrong with this country. -
Dion and his Palace Guard in trouble
geoffrey replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't think Dion has a 'palace guard' anymore. It's him against the party. He is not a leader. The Liberals would not be in this mess with Iggy at the helm... maybe not even with Rae (though they may be polling lower with him ) -
That certainly would trigger an election. Plus, do you really think any Canadian is stupid enough to think we can meet targets due in just over two months? Why is Pablo so underestimating of Canadian intelligence when he put forward the bill in the first place? Or... more scary... do they actually lack the understanding that it's impossible? Do they actually believe you can cut emissions 50% in two months? Canadians get it. They are playing politics and are wrong. It won't win them a single vote beyond the mentally incompetent.

Pardon my ignorance, but how will that happened? And wouldn't it be highly risky for the Liberals to kick Dion to the curb and be at very high risk for an election? If Dion is removed in the next few days, the Tories will likely pair with any Liberals absent for the vote and have the government fall. The momentum is really spinning up for a big majority win regardless if Dion stays or goes tomorrow.

John Tory - *Still* refuses to admit he was wrong.

You want to open the constitution over an issue like that? Dear God. -
Alberta oil thirst leading to disaster ?
geoffrey replied to jennie's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Well, this thread is about Alberta, and Alberta's power grid is privately owned and operated, so that's not really true. Not here anyways. -
No, but blocking traffic there isn't illegal. Apparently it is on this bridge, which is why they needed a permit for this specific occassion... which they got. And then ignored. It's also my lawful democratic right to kick the shit out of anyone that illegally holds me against my will. If they block my car, I can use reasonable force to remove them. If I tossed them off the bridge, would you feel as sympathic to me, defending my liberty? You see, civilized people see a balance. They have a right to protest, I have a right to get to work on time. If they impede my right, they lose theirs. It's something lost on the protest happy hippies. Challenge it in court. They got their permit by the way... and then ignored the terms of it. Protest, like I said, is ok when reasonable. Would you be ok with someone protesting public health care by blockading the entrances of all publically funded hospitals? Probably not. At least I hope not. It's all about competing liberties and finding a fair balance so that protestors can get their message out and people can still enjoy their own liberty to move about as they please.

GREENS SAY CRIME BILL WRONG ! legalize cannabis !
geoffrey replied to shavluk's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Accidentially killing people. Opps. I didn't mean to keep a loaded 9 in my car. What the hell is that? These people are cold blooded killers. That won't change if pot is legalised. I'd say the vast majority are drug related. Racist? What the hell are you talking about? Was that before or after she spoke about banning abortions? -
Some just aren't willing to be held responsible for the consequences of their actions. If the patient died, would society be willing to lock 'em up for murder?

Hundreds of rich pay no tax: Study ?

They weren't arrested for protesting. They were arrested for interfering in the lives of thousands that use a bridge they effectively closed. Here, let me give you a similar case. Go rent a big camper and park it across 3 lanes of the 401 for a few hours and tell me that you shouldn't be charged with anything. They had a permit to protest when it wouldn't impact as many people's livelyhoods (some people actually do have to be at work at a certain time). They chose to infringe on other's liberty. I see no difference in a person chaining me up in a cellar and someone blocking my car on the highway. What they did was wrong.

You re-typed that entire article? Methinks there is a copyright violation here... in the very least it breaks the forum rules.

Gore and U.N. Panel Win Peace Prize for Climate Work
geoffrey replied to jbg's topic in The Rest of the World
This is reflective of the very sad, over politicized, state of science today: "In the United States of America, unfortunately we still live in a bubble of unreality. And the Category 5 denial is an enormous obstacle to any discussion of solutions. Nobody is interested in solutions if they don't think there's a problem. Given that starting point, I believe it is appropriate to have an over-representation of factual presentations on how dangerous (global warming) is, as a predicate for opening up the audience to listen to what the solutions are, and how hopeful it is that we are going to solve this crisis." -- Al Gore -- He's not dedicated to science. He's dedicated to selling the Green agenda. -
Agreed! We shouldn't let anyone in with criminal records!

I use a much higher resolution than what the new site is designed at, so unfortunately I had to switch back to the original. I'm not used to reading or writing posts in such a small box. It's hard to read with such little continuity between lines IMO. But oh well, to each their own. If your used to the smaller resolution, the new site definitely is pretty sharp.
