There may be all kinds of reports circulating in Toronto, but this story wasn't a big splash here. Now that a link has been posted I've read it, but still don't see evidence of actual racist comments being made at the Parade. Its Mr. Canada's thread, so it is up to him to show evidence of anti-Semitism at the Parade.

Ok, so finally some context. There was a process followed to decide if this group could participate, and in the end it seems they were allowed to do so. I'm sure the people who made this decision would be interested in seeing your video footage, so they can decide how to proceed from here. (I'm confused, though, if it was the QuAIA shouting the anti-Semitic remarks, or if it was the crowd?)

Wild Bill, I agree with you that there are no free passes, but so far Mr. Canada has just stated that there were instances of anti-Semitism, with no actual evidence other than his say-so. What exactly was said?

Did you take your children to the Parade?
-
Good thing you were there hoping to get some footage of hot male on male action and instead were able to witness racial slurs. I'm sure the authorities will be happy to review the tape, and appropriate action will be taken.

Are you saying that the Gay Pride Parade is actually a front for an anti-Semitic movement?

I think the point can be made without turning it into a competition, to see whose survival story is "best". All victims of the Holocaust have important stories to tell, and they should all be given equal respect. Assigning greater or lesser value to their experiences does a disservice to them all.

Gordon Lightfoot Inducted Into Songwriters' Hall of Fame
Melanie_ replied to jbg's topic in Arts and Culture
Mock me if you must, but the best performance ever in Canadian Idol was a to Gordon Lightfoot (sorry for making you see Ben Mulroney, but it can't be helped)...And here is The Gordon Himself, singing an -
Was there also a Mr. Holocaust Survivor? You know, who was judged on his own story of survival? And on another note... How do you compare people's stories of loss, chaos, dehumanization and eventual pure luck, and declare one to be a winner? I can't imagine an entire competition premised on who suffered the greatest, as if it were a badge of honour. In this situation, I'd rather see it be about their appearance than their victimization.

Do you have a link for this? I googled it, and found a few other things the UN has condemned Canada for (i.e., risk of torture), but nothing about food availability. I also found groups that used the UN Conventions to support their position that Canada wasn't doing all that it could, but nothing directly from the UN.

Has anyone read GRR Martin's short stories about Dunk and Egg? They take place in Westeros, about 80 years before the books/tv series, so they provide a bit of interesting history, mostly about the Targaryans. I found one just the other day at Chapters, in a collection of short stories called "Warriors" ($10 in the bargain section). Apparently he has written 3 so far, and intends to write anywhere between 6 and 12 altogether.

I don't see warning signs of a civil war, at least not the one(s) you are talking about. If there were ever to be a "civil war" in this country I think it would stem from land claims and treaty rights. But, I'm willing to hear your ideas. Can you give a bit more detail about what exactly you see the issues being, and how they would lead to civil war?

Socialist has helped me to see the error of my ways. Together, we will free the world from oppressive spelling, grammar and punctuation laws, which have been created for the sole purpose of controlling the masses. Viva le revolution!

I get it! Social justice is about a departure from capitalism! And you are underscoring this by refusing to capitalize the first letter of each sentence you write! Down with capitalism, and it's bastard cousin, capitalization!

This must be the answer to your wet dreams. You were out saving the world, and were targetted by a group of uneducated, unappreciative boors, who didn't recognize your sacrifice and compassion for the earth. You live for this. Martyrdom rules!

Deleted for being a spoiler. Sorry folks, nothing to see here, move along.

I've read all 5 books, and the thing I really love/hate about the series is that no one is sacred. Don't get attached to anyone, you never know when their head will roll.

Gender Equality in Canada and the US
Melanie_ replied to cybercoma's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Sigh. Cybercoma presents an articulate, interesting, and meaningful thread for discussion. And it gets highjacked by the knuckle draggers. -
He didn't download "some pictures", he downloaded pictures of children being sexually assaulted. He did this because he got his jollies from looking at images of children being raped. He created a demand for further sexual attacks on children, as those who like to look at this stuff are always looking for more. He also contributed to their continued victimization, as those images will always be out there, so those children never know in their day to day lives if they are interacting with someone who has seen them be abused, and enjoyed watching it. Don't try to minimize his role in the abuse of these children. People who download child porn are complicit in the abuse, and should be held accountable.

Nope. Abortion involves a fetus, not a child. -

How did I forget about this thread? Yes, it is a unique interpretation. What do you have to say about it? What is Abraham's connection to Sodom and Gommorah? What do you have to say about Lot offering his virgin daughters to the crowd of rapists, and then violating them himself? Do you agree with god that this qualifies him as a righteous man? Yes, God stopped the infanticide from happening, but that isn't the point. Abraham believed that was what was expected of him, and was prepared to carry it out, in the name of his god. So his child wasn't seen as a person in his own right, just a pawn in the relationship of Abraham with his god. Is this your view of children? I'll save the question about women's rights for later, after you have dealt with the first two questions. -
Natives have right too says Canada
Melanie_ replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm glad your bypass went well, Bill, and that the man who shared your ward also was well. My point isn't that people aren't happy to benefit from technology - in fact, I think that all people, regardless of ethnic origin, will adapt to any technology that betters their lives. And that is a good thing. But when Saipan is so disrespectful to an entire group of people, stereotyping based on gross generalizations, he needs to be called on it. -
Isn’t it obvious why we don’t know more about Joseph? It doesn’t matter who fathered Jesus, god or man. The mother is the person who influences, guides, and counsels the child. As Christianity became more and more patriarchal, the need for defining paternity became more pronounced, but in reality it seems both god and man were nothing more than sperm donors... Mary is the only parent of substance the Bible talks about. The ambiguity of paternal responsibility speaks for itself.

You have no idea what you are talking about. This is one of the most racist comments I have ever read on this forum.
