  1. jafridi: Let's not assume but say it is fact for those 191 who signed and ratified that code of conduct. No the UN did not authorize the invasion, in fact if the UN had it's way we would still be debating on what to do with Sadam and his merry band of killers, other examples are Rwanda the UN refused to act and thousand died. there are many more examples in history of the UN's inability to take approiate action when needed. So yes i will agree with your quote " In short, the UN has lost its relevance and moral authority." But does this now mean that every decission they have made is irrelevant, we should throw in the towel and have nations act as they please. NO i think not, the basic rules need to be follow if we are to co exist with other. Most will agree that most of the excuses for the Iraqi invasion were proven to be false, and did not justify the invasion. However those same people will also agree that something had to be done about the Sadam regime and would not discount miltary action.. Are you saying that the removal of Sadam and his band of killers is a crime, and that the world would be a better place with him still in power ? No it would have been a crime to leave him there in power to slaughter thousands more in his quest for more power. So now that we have thrown out the international code of conduct ,what instrument do we use to conduct our selfs. The bible, perhaps the Koran, history has already shown us what happens when nations strictly conduct themselfs by these sources. In fact history is still showing us. Of course you have prove of this, why not take it to the RCMP or the press, i'm sure that those that voted for him including myself would be very interested. To find out that our present government was bankrolled by the US neocon support. So the rest of the OIL producing nations are gaining nothing, In fact i would say that it would be in thier interest if the unstabilty in Iraq continued. And as far as the US defense industry being the only benifactor is false as well, Russia and china are making tidy little profits of this war as well. Atleast they have contributed something to the reconstruction of Iraq, while Canada has provided cash it could be doing alot more. Your wrong about thier reconstruction potential anything that is done to improve one iraqi's quality of life is worth the effort. Our reconstuction teams in Afgan also need force protection, and arial support but it does not stop them from going out every day to reconstruct something making small steps towards a better future. It is easy to pin the blame of all those deaths on the Allied action, to wipe clean the insurgents hands as they were just defending thier country, or fulfilling a religious need. It's easy to blame the white faces in the crowd for the deaths of thier families. Because this is what the insurgents tell them what has happened or what is being taught in school, or at religious services. The insurgents know this and use this as a weapon. Yes, get out run and hide ,stick our heads back in the sand, let the insurgents play the bongo's on our lilly white arses. Does anyone actually think that the Insurgents would stop the fighting, or that they would allow the current population to govern themselfs with free elections, better human rights if the coalition pulled out. If that was the case are we not fighting for the same thing...Where do you see Iraq in 5 years time if the coalition left today? do you see Iraq in peace with it self and the world and rebuilding it's nation or do you see another Sadam a Muslim extremist in power, rebuilding it's armies to once again rain terror were they see fit. If the Iraqi people are anything like the Afgan people all they want is peace, to be able to live life as it was intended. If the coalition was to depart tommorrow civil war would tear that country apart, and peace would be just another pipe dream. And the deaths would continue.
  2. Jafridi: Before the UN the League of nations, after the UN was formed the United nations general assembly. of which over 191 nations are involved. Just how is that "the World" is being held hostage to the financial interest of the US. Are you impling that the US is the only nation making a profit from the war in Iraq. Yes, there are a few of those, but there is more support than you are letting on, support from established nations who are not new euro states or 3 rd world countries. Such as Australia, denmark,Italy, japan,South korea, and the UK. As of July 1, 2005, there were 26 non-U.S. military forces participating in the coalition and contributing to the ongoing stability operations throughout Iraq. These countries were: Albania, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Georgia, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Mongolia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, United Kingdom, and Ukraine. Are you saying that the US had a role to play in getting elected our new Government, or just that they prefer to work with one that is not so anti-american. I'm sorry that us simplistic rural people do not have the same insight on the worlds problems as you in the Urban centers do" excuse me got to shovel some bullshit out of my driveway". You sound like a liberal MP with some time on his hands. If by great opportunities you mean rebuilding a nation, to one that can govern it's people properly without slaughtering them by the thousands then YES, or by rebuilding a nation that does not resort to war on a whim, yes. We in Canada have gone to plenty of military operations where the goals were not as lofty as the ones in Iraq. To give the Iraqi people a chioce of government, to give them freedoms that they did not have under Sadam. Who cares what the Americans think or do, the situation in Iraq is not about them it is about the Iraqi people and what can be done to help them. You don't get the piont, by keeping your head in the sand solves nothing, other than giving you something to talk about at your Urban dinner table where your opinions mean so much more than the rest of the countries do. Your not part of the solution but part of the problem, because your fixated on blaming the US. The problem is this, Iraq situation is not going to get better unless more of the world gets involved. By doing nothing we solve nothing and the Iraq situation continues, until it boils into something bigger. Perhaps you and the rest of "Urban" Canada should dig thier heads out of thier asses and give us a solution, so we as a nation can do something constructive and help. Instead of sitting on the side lines pionting our Canadian fingers at the US. Telling ourselfs how much better we are.
  3. I think we would all agree that our entire justice system needs to be rebuilt completely. from our laws and punshiment scales to how our prison system interns these convicts. The military system has been proven to work extremily well in providing a deterent for repeat offenses, and a well strutured prison enviroment where there are no stabbings or beatings or other incidents. And it may be worth a look into solving some of the problems we have in our federal prisons. It should be noted that DND dentention center normally does not hold any military prisoners that have commited Federal crimes, unless they are serving thier military portion of thier sentence first, once completed they are then shipped to federal prison. Out of 55,000 military members currently serving our country there may be only 30 to 40 serving in dentention, even that number is on the high side. Below is a look into a military prison. His daily routine. Daily Routine Hours - Reveille 0600 - Shave, scrub rooms and barracks gen- 0600-0730 , clean equipment and layout kit - Breakfast 0730-0800 - Training Period 0800-1150 - Wash up, dinner 1200-1300 - Training Period 1300-1650 - Wash up, supper 1700-1800 - Shower 1800-1830 - Wash clothes, scrub equipment and 1830-1945 perform general tasks - Incidental parades and letter writing 1945-2045 - Make up beds 2045-2100 - Lights out 2100 Sunday Routine Hours - Reveille 0630 - Shave, scrub rooms, and lay out kits 0630-0730 - Breakfast 0730-0800 - Divine Service, as ordered 0800-1000 - Exercise period 1000-1100 - Dinner 1200-1300 - Study, write letters, receive visitors 1300-1600 - Exercise period 1600-1630 - Supper 1645-1800 - Privileges period (as applicable) 1800-2045 - Make up beds 2045-2100 - Lights out 2100 Prison life is based on a progressive approach. .05 - PROGRESSIVE STAGES (1) The punishment of detention, and the punishment of imprisonment when served in a service prison or detention barrack, shall be divided into two stages. (2) The first stage shall commence on the day an inmate is sentenced and shall continue until he has earned promotion by good conduct to the second stage, but shall not be less than fourteen days. (3) During the first stage, no inmate shall be entitled to: (a) a communication period; ( a smoking period; or © visitors, other than official visitors mentioned in article 4.16. Everything a prisoner does is based on a seris of marks to which go's to earning him "timed served" there no time off for good behavior, Fail to earn enough pionts for the day and that day does not count towards your sentence as time served. SYSTEM OF MARKS (1) The system of marks set out in this article shall be used to assess an inmate's conduct for the purpose of: (a) promoting him from the first stage to the second stage; and ( determining the portion of his punishment that may be remitted. (2) Except when he is under penalty an inmate shall be entitled to earn a maximum of eight marks each day for his conduct. In awarding these marks, attention shall be paid to the inmate's industry and attention during training, his dress and department, and Ws sense of discipline. (3) Unless the commandant orders otherwise, an inmate shall receive eight marks for each day: (a) between the date of imposition of the punishment and the date of his admission; ( on which Sunday routine applies; © spent while on transfer from a service prison or detention barrack to another place of incarceration; and (d) spent in hospital, or other place for the reception of sick persons. (4) For each day not mentioned in (3) of this article, the senior non-commissioned member normally shall award the imate's marks. He may, after consultation with the senior guard on each duty shift, award six, seven, or eight marks to an inmate. If the senior non-commissioned member considers that the inmate is entitled to less than six marks, the commandant shall, in the presence of the inmate, award an appropriate mark. (5) No inmate shall be promoted from the first stage to the second stage until he has earned 112 marks. Marks earned for promotion to the second stage shall not count for remission of punishment. (6) Marks awarded shall be recorded daily in the Register of Marks MISBEHAVIOUR An inmate who offends in any way against good order and discipline commits an act of misbehaviour. Notwithstanding the generality of the foregoing, misbehaviour of an inmate includes: (a) disrespect to any member of the staff, visitor, or other person; ( idleness, carelessness, negligence, or refusal to work; © irreverent behaviour at Divine Service; (d) use of blasphemous or other improper language; (e) indecency in language, act, or gesture; (f) communication or attempts at communication with another inmate or person without authority; (g) singing, whistling, or any unnecessary noise or disturbance; (h) leaving his place of duty or any room without authority; (i) wilful disfiguration of or damage to, or attempts at dis-figuration of or damage to, any part of the service prison or detention barrack, or any articles to which he may have access; (j) nuisance or an attempt to commit nuisance; (k) possession of any article without authority; (l) conveyance to or reception from or an attempt to convey to or receive from any person any article without authority; or (m) inattention whilst performing any duty or undergoing training. - CORRECTIVE MEASURES The following corrective measures may be applied in respect of Misbehaviour by an inmate: (a) close confinement; ( No. 1 Diet; © No. 2 Diet; (d) loss of privileges; and (e) forfeiture of marks earned for remission. 6.12 - CLOSE CONFINEMENT 1) When the corrective measure of close confinement is applied to an inmate, he shall be: (a) confined in the room or cell set apart for that purpose; ( deprived of all privileges; © allowed to exercise for two periods of thirty minutes each day; and (d) entitled to no mark for conduct. 2) No inmate shall undergo the corrective measure of close confinement without the concurrence of the medical officer. No.l Diet when applied for a period of three days or less shall consist of fourteen ounces of bread a day and unrestricted quantities of water. NO. 2 DIET (1) No. 2 Diet when applied for a period of twenty-one days or less shall consist of; (a) for breakfast, seven ounces of bread and unrestricted quantities of water, ( for dinner, (i) porridge containing two ounces of oatmeal, (ii) two ounces of peas or beans, (iii) eight ounces of potatoes, (iv) the normal flavouring of salt, and Above is mixed together in one bowl. (v) unrestricted quantities of water, and © for supper, seven ounces of bread and unrestricted quantities of water. Above are what our military prisoners are subject to today, Military prisoners have Two chioces conform and serve their time with good conduct, or fight the system and remain in custody until you see the errors of your way. There is no automactically getting time off for good behavior, but earning each day that counts towards your sentence. Prisoners that have been released after serving thier time have been quoted as being model soldiers. So there is merit to this system.
  4. FTA Lawyer: Sorry i must have misunderstood the message that you were trying to send. but by continuely telling me how hard life is in prison that is what i thought you were trying to do, provoke sympathy. No, you can't easily quantify it or explain it in a few words. one has to live it or live with it, to fully understand it. and i applaud you in trying to do just that in your post. However what struck a cord with me was how some of your posts sounded like you were trying to provoke sympathy for these Men and women in prison. The same people who by thier own choose have had thier freedoms taken away "well some of them of thier freedoms". My 6 month tour in Afgan i was exposed to some of the most brutal justice there is and took alittle offense when you said how hard our convicts got it. Perhaps i overreacted, or perhaps our convicts really don't know just how good they got it. This is where i fail to understand your piont. In todays world ,here in Canada i find it hard to believe that a person has to turn to a life of crime to survive, if thats the case then each person makes a chioce to comit crimes. knowing full well that those crimes may in fact lead to serving prison terms. which leads me to think that A) going to prison and losing a few of thier freedoms is not a deterant, and the punishment does not fit the crime. The only thing that seems to scare them is the fact that they will be locked up with others of the same ilk or worse. which again proves that our justice system may not be working or is tough enough. Again when i read the above quote i get the feeling that your pro convict and anti corrections officer. I to have a father inlaw who i describe in a few 4 letter words. Ill sum up ,I will agree with you, life is hard in prison for alot of prisoners. but then again it's supposed to be if it was'nt we'd all be in there. Perhaps with our new gov't things will change for the better for us law bidding citizens anyway. Thank you for the kind words about our countries military.
  5. Black dog: I did not say they were ignorant savages that require our guidance. Just that they would need our help to get the ball rolling. If they were capable of doing this by themselfs without help why have they not done anything to date. Are you saying the coalition is holding them back. I disagree there will always be someone that will take an interest in countries like Iraq like Russia, china, etc. sticking our heads in the sand does not make the problem go away. sooner or later someone will have to take action, IE 1 st gulf war, or are you saying we should have stayed out of that one as well. I did not imply we would decide who is worth saving, what i did say is the world has already decided what is right and wrong and how each country should conduct themselfs, break those rules and suffer the consquences. and that should be implied regardless if their is material gains or not. example Iraq got attention because of the oil, Rwanda got no attention because thier was nothing to be gained, except saving thousands of lives. And your right there is no guarantees in live except when we do nothing then nothing is guaranteed. And i'm not saying we rebuild Iraq in our image but rather in a new Iraq that can live and prosper in todays world.
  6. FTA Lawyer: What i was trying to say here is that if ONE prisoner is being treated the way our media has pionted out then that is "one" to many, are you denying that thier are no Prisoners in Canada being treated this way. If your trying to provoke feelings of sympathy for these convicts, your talking to the wrong guy. Although i've never been to prison ( except the kingston riots) , i do know what it is like to have your freedom severly curtailed. I served in Kubul Afgan in the early stages when the camp was just being built. we slept in Recce tents (small pup tents 2 to 3 men per, smaller than your 6x8 cell), with an air matress on the ground, No showers for days sometimes a week, in temps over 50, The men and women that serve our country got along just fine, there were no stabbings, beatings or bending over your roommate. We acted like civilized people in conditions that are much worst than any maxium security prison here in Canada. Your protrayal of the prison gaurds as uneducated thugs is a little much. Perhaps a couple days in thier shoes would change your tune. Random inspections are done for a reason, to ensure convicts obey the rules that have been set out by the courts. IE no drugs, wpns, etc. If the convicts were as sweet as you prtray them then why would there be a need for searchs. As for strip searchs there must be a cause to order a search. And if there is no cause then you as a lawyer should do something about it. NO the bottom line is this, if our tax dollars are being spent on luxery items such as cable, dildos, etc, those tax dollars would be bettrer spent on additional homeless shelters, tax breaks for low income earners, basically anything that would improve the lives of those that have chosen to obey the law. Bullshit, my 3 year son knows what is right and wrong, he knows exactly what he can do or what he can not. and he knows the punishment. So you are telling me that an adult does not already know the consequences, that they don't know right from wrong. Again bullshit, tell the SCC to do thier research in a military prison, ask them how many reoffenders they get. not to many. Ask anyone that has done time in a military prison would they do the crime again. These soldiers that come back to thier units from prison are model soldiers. Why is that. To sum-up i understand your piont, prison is not a fun place to be. But those convicts have chosen thier plight in life ,well most have, and now there are paying the consquences. what concerns me is that there are Canadians here in Canada struggling to make ends meet ,to feed thier families, put a roof over thier heads etc and doing all this and still obeying the law. And these convicts have a roof over thier heads are feed 3 square meals a day, have access to books, tv, schooling, medical and mental care. all this on our tax dollar.
  7. Black dog: If there was a concerted effort by many of the leading world powers i'd say Yes, Can Canada alone make a difference again i'd say yes, but not one that would show fruit for many years. I don't think that they are capable of doing this alone, i think it would again take many years of effort just to get the ball roling and Iraqi people self sufficent. So we agree he was a scumbag, were we differ is what we should do with scumbags. So where do we make a stand at what piont do we say enough. I will agree to a certain piont that foreign meddling is a problem, however it's a small one. And it works both ways you can't tell me that Sadam did not take advantage of this when ever he could. On top of that who made him attack Iran, or annex Kuwait, and wipe out the kurds. Sadam was no pupet ,he pulled his own strings. The only question we have created by attacking Iraq and wiping out his gang is "why" just Sadam why not all the Bad guy's including those whose nations really don't offer anything of valve such as oil. Such as Rwanda. I think both sides of the coin is to blame the Hawks because thiers no monie in it and the peaceniks because it's to violent or not our problem as it does not effect us. Sometimes you just got to do whats right, who decides that in the world. we have already decided what is right and wrong we just need to enforce it. It's not misplaced i know it to be true i've seen it happen more times that i can count, but it takes commitment and money... The everyday Iraqi does want peace, it's the extremist that won't allow it. If you find my confidence to fix the mess is misplaced, then how would we help if they ask for it. I did not say we had all the answers, and if enough of the world wanted to i believe we could fix anything. but i do know what they want, they want what everybody in a war zone wants "Peace". and your right the whole situation is a glaring example of failure, it's time for us to declare it a failure and find a new solution. Whats wrong with that do, you always give up so easily.
  8. Blackdog: Are they capable of doing this by themselfs ,right now. Even you will have to agree that the Sadam Regime had to be stopped. I disagree, they are many organizations through out the world that can provide funding, expertise and equipment needed to rebuild Iraq. But before this can happen the people have to want it, there has to be peace, either brought to bear militarily or by the people of Iraq themselfs. Canada has alot more to offer than just military forces.
  9. Drea, FTA Lawyer: What is it your trying to say, we should feel sorry for these convicts, that there being mistreated, or prison is to tough on them. Or just that prison is not a fun place to be. But it's not meant to be is it. If half of these stories are true, then there has to be a problem within our justice system. why is it that prisoners(convicts) are being treated better than alot of law bidding Canadain citizens. How many of you's out there would like a day at the spa or manicures paid by the government. You've said that most of your clients ask you "I'm i going to prison", but in your judgement how many truely did "NOT" know that thier crime could send them to prison, before they committed it. And yet they had the mental compacity to weigh the risks and took that chance (i may or may not be caught). Does that prove that the threat of going to prison works..And then they have the gull to ask i'm i going to prison, "YUP" meet your new roommate and "Bubba meet your new toy". I think not, i think we need tougher laws, tougher sentences, Convicts should leave all thier rights and privilages at the front door. And next time perhaps when they are weighing the risks, the light bulb will come on and they'll decide it's not worth it. Lets stop, promoting just how rough these convicts have it, when many other law bidding citizens have it much harder. My Webpage My Webpage
  10. Then lets just declare to the world that Canada thinks the war is was unjust. But that does not mean we have to sit on the side lines and piont our fingers ever chance we get. Lets come up with an solution, lets take the lead in rebuilding this nation. It's what we were once known for peace keepers and peace makers. Lets forget about why the war began and who's at fault, and deal with the problem at hand. Which is really the people of Iraq, and rebuilding a nation. But everone is caught up in "it's an american mess let them clean it up." History is showing us that they can not clean it up alone, it needs to be a world effort. And whom is doing all the suffering for our inactions. Yes the same people who the peace crowd say are dying in large numbers. Are we just as guilty for not doing anything. So that leaves us with two opitions get involved, or Shut TF-up.
  11. Canadian Patriot: I take it your talking about the Gas attack on Halabja a Iraqi kurdish town thought to have Iranian soldiers in it. There are plenty of western links that blame the Iranians for this attack and discount the eye witiness reports that they clearly seen aircraft with Iraqi markings on them dropping bombs. Not arty shells as the western intel state( and we know how good thier intel is) The same group that reported WMD in Iraq. But this is not the only town that was gassed over the years, who are you blaming those on the Iranians as well. Aside from the gas attacks, Sadam and his motly crew are responsable for killing thousands of kurds with conventional arms. some of the links below compare his actions with the Kurds to the Nazi's death camps. Kurds. proof of attacks My Webpage Dutch court My Webpage Where do you get your info from, One hiroshima bomb is equal to 13,000 tones of TNT, the best the americans did was 15,000 tons of bombs, not TNT on the opening day. Your calculations would mean Coalition forces dropped 3,250,000 tonnes of TNT in 24 hours. when in fact the entire war the entire coalition dropped on 88,500 tonnes of bombs. NOT even close. www.danshistory.com/operations.shtml#storm www.mindfully.org/Reform/2002/American-War-Airpower.htm Can you prove this number or do you make this up as you go along. Can you prove that Iraq is better off with out Sadam. And are you saying we should have left him alone. Your whole post is suspect...He uses his opposite hand in the video alot He is also wearing a "gold" watch which is again'st his beleifs. Perhaps it was his stunt double....
  12. uOttawaMan: My piont was this if students are to be armed then they would need the wpns training. Training someone to use a pistol does not take months or weeks, you might at the very most add 2 weeks to your training time and that would be a very intensive training period. That being said are the RCMP (volenteers part timers) armed, last i heard they were not. This would all that would be needed if you were working with a full time ARMED person. If the crossing is to dangerous to allow this partnership, then perhaps using students to fill these postions should be looked at. And more full time postions added. Border services is no different than any other department when it comes to summer holidays. Better planning on thier part would be required to ensure that there was an adquate number of full time gaurds available to handle any situation that may come up. Hicksey: That was not my piont, i was responding to Uottawaman post that wpns training would add to his training time. my response was without this training it would be a disaster waiting to happen. And yes our government has acted irresponsiable, for not allowing our border gaurds to be armed along time ago, for not ensuring they had the proper equipment to do there job safely. And i did say students should be regulated to performing tasks that do not require them to be armed. If you had read all the posts you'd find that i did say i was for arming our border services.
  13. Uottawaman: Having a part time student armed without having the proper training is a disaster waiting to happen. But there are many diffent options such as leaving those part timers unarmed, paired with an experianced officer that is. There are many diffent forms of non lethal wpns available for students to carry such as pepper spray, a spray foam etc. Or just delegate them to other tasks that do not require them to be armed. There are other ways as well that can improve thier safety, as well as improve the security of our borders, such as reinforcing structures, installing bullet proof glass, Panick Gates to seal of roads. All can be done without our borders looking like fort apache.
  14. Perhaps they should expand on programs that Corrections Canada already has up and running. Such as CorCan (corrections Canada)already produces Office furniture for sale to anyone mostly goverment depts, I'm not sure were the revenue goes, I'm sure the federal goverment gets it's slice. It would teach them a trade, or skill, make good use of thier time spent on the taxpayers dollar.
  15. We've had this debate before, it's actually a "no brainer". Arm the border gaurds, give them the tools they require to accomplish thier jobs safely. If the biggest obsticle in arming them is training, then train them whats the big deal, it can be done by any policing agency be RCMP or local. In a short time. This is another mess left by our last goverment, and one i hope will be solved quickly by the present one. Nobody should have to put thier lives at risk unnessicarily for this Country. But then again when have we as Canadians been concern about lives when compared to a dollar.
  16. Drea: As a member of the military, I'd like to know what it is your actually trying to say here. That we are better off dying in Afganistan...A mission that has brought more grief to the liberal party than any other mission due to poor equipment, not enough equipment, which can be attributed to the deaths of some of our soldiers, or atleast putting them in undo harm. Or we'd be worse off Dying in Iraq under the conservatives that would actually spend more money ensuring that we would have at least safer equipment and in quanties that we need. or so they say.
  17. Fleabag. I tend to disagree, the last thing DND needs is another Non military dept to operate, we already have far to many taskings such as Search and Rescue, emergency prepardness(both provincial and national levels), Dart, to name a few all suck funds out of an already cash strapped dept. DND has spent alot of time and money rebuilding the depts image. The last thing we need is some bad press over taking corrections canada jobs, or killing an convict over something stupid. The military does not have the training to Handle civilian prisoners who are extremely spoiled with our tax dollars. Nor does it have the man power. I may be wrong but i believe thier are more correction officers than actual military members in all 3 elements. Yes the Military does have it's own prison for personal charged with non federal crimes only. and trust me there is no comparison to any of our civilian prisons and i'm talking about our maxium security facilities. And thats after human rights toned it down. I think the only measure is to give the Corrections dept the mandate they need to solve thier own problem. getting the Government to pass new tougher legislature taking away more of thier rights once convicted and sentenced. That combined with tougher sentencing and actually doing the time they were sentenced for. Getting time off for good behavior is stupid, want to be a badass then add more time on to his sentence. Be a good boy and get out when your time is up. Military prisoners have to earn pionts each day, not enough pionts then that day does not count again'st your sentence. No judge no jury you do another day end of story. As for our youth and thier problems they to need thier own program perhaps even thier own dept. There has been dozens of private ventures that resembles a military boot camp, some have shown good results and i think if we mixed in other specialties like professional therapy, some tough love, etc they may get a program that produces results.
  18. Politika Your joking right, Any military force that was capable of destroying our current military would have no problem in securing the rest of the country...i mean what would you fight them with Snowballs, what would you make your bombs from when was the last time any Canadian actully lived of the land...You can't compare Canada with Iraq or Afgan two totally different cultures. Don't get me wrong i'm not questioning your patriotism just your idea's about stopping a determined enemy.
  19. Cybercoma. Good question, Why work and pay taxes, i mean we have the government social programs to take care of us. And yet for some reason most of the country goes off to work every morning. Can you name one time in the last 100 years were the US had use it's military to protect our nation. I think not. It is not the US that stands on gaurd for thee, But proud Canadians. How many nations in the world today do not have a military of any sort. you can count them on one hand Why is that i wonder.
  20. Yes, i am currently serving in CFB (sunny) Petawawa Ont.
  21. AZIZ. I guess that would depend on just were you practiced your religion, if you were born in Afgan,Iraq, or many of the other radical muslim dictatorships what would your equation read. Islam=Quran + what ever your local religous leader is preaching like hate,Jihad, what ever benifits them. I think because Islam is a religous culture the extremists have taken advantage of this for thier benifit, to convince those who's believes are very strong or those not as educated as most to become extremists in the name of thier religion.
  22. There seems to be some misconceptions about BMD, thier are serveral componets that make up the entire system. A land based system for long range high alt missles (ballistic missles) Another land based system made up of patriot and other Air defense systems to counter low flying cruise and other low flying missles. And a sea based system on board an Aegis type destroyer or frigate. Combined they make up the entire Missle defense system. MDA My Webpage My Webpage There are many portions to this Missile defense system and most work or very close to becoming mass produced and put into military service. That being said Canada was only offered a seat at the table "at no charge" because of possiable future radar sites tying it all in with existing Norad sites. How it all works is in the below link. url=http://www.fas.org/spp/starwars/program/nmd/]My Webpage[/url] So it's not just for those high alt missles but for any incoming missle threat. I think the public have been either mis informed or not told the whole story from both sides the US and Canadian Governments. Those that think that the whole system comes at no price tag to Canada think again. those ground based short range systems and the Aegis systems have a huge price tag and would be required to complete the system ...sort of in for a penny in for a pound. Canada will have to decide what it wants more money, or a total defense and most will agree it's not defense that a large portion of the population wants.
  23. Agreed, Mr hellier was not very popular among'st the Military after unification of the elements.
  24. MAR. No you were right, Diefenbaker did tell Kennedy "he would not put his military on high alert" My piont was that the Canadain Military disregarded those orders and placed thier troops on High readiness because they saw the situation as it really was and were it was leading to, and nuke stand off. DND had ordered it's ships to par take in the blockade to atleast have a seat at the table when the button was pushed. Diefenbaker relented when he found out that DND had acted against his orders.
  25. Mar. I think if you research the Cuban Missle Crisis you'll find that our Military was on high alert, in fact Canadian warships were part of the blockade, these orders came from DND, not the PM.
