Uh, they do it all the time in the British parliament, you know, the one ours is modelled on? And not just the fringe idiots get booed, Tony Blair does. Or mabye Layton should learn from Bush's example.
-
Layton is a dumbass...I'd probably come off as a dumbass in parliament too...but I don't claim to be suited to the position and he does. The point is, Harper doesn't say stupid crap that gets him booed down.
-
I detect a hint of bitterness. The speaker should have just told him to shut the hell up. I think any time a member gets booed into shutting up, he must be saying something pretty ridiculous.

I find the entire idea of intellectual property to be ridiculous. Live performances (or in the case of movies, their public display in theatres) can support performing artists, and as for software companies, retail software is less buggy and provides support/updates, so there will always be an incentive to buy it. If you create a product but can't market it well, and someone else can, they deserve to reap the benefits, IMO. If it were up to me, there would be no copyright laws at all.

Bush asks Canadians to support U.S. puppet govt.

Yes caesar, that's what I meant. -
Eureka is right. In fact I think both tests suck. Anyway, my results: Economic Left/Right: -1.38 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 4.62 That's my result considering Canada's political framework Economic Left/Right: 1.38 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 8.10 That's my result if I'm considering a third world country's political framework. Politopia: My problem with this tests is that I don't want the government to intervene in people's lives, but I do want it to strongly suggest through advertising/PR campaigns how people should act. For instance I would like all drugs made legal but the government to absolutely condemn their use as not only bad for your health, but morally wrong, the same with sex outside marriage and abortion.

I think Moscow will get its way one way or another. Either Ukraine will become a Russian satellite or eastern Ukraine will join Russia. I think the latter is more likely.

Bush asks Canadians to support U.S. puppet govt.
Choke replied to MapleBear's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Agreed. I don't assume people will know what I'm talking about if I say freedom fighters. Mabye. I mean, in most countries that get invaded, the vast majority don't actually end up engaging in rebellion. Um, yes, and that has what to do with this? What made it illegal exactly? Who has the authority? -
Just because the NDP is on the extreme left on social issues that doesn't mean opposing their ideas makes the Liberals right-wing. The Liberals do have some socially conservative Socreds, etc, still kicking around, but they don't control party policy.
-
I would say no, because I think something like that may actually be enough to provoke a war.

What's the alternative, support the insurgents? -
Kind of like, oh, I dunno, Saddam Hussein did to Kuwait?

Well, they're tied to one union at least. http://www.caw.ca/index.asp You're puting words in my mouth, I never said they were a homogenous group. Center. They're economically left of business owners as a group. I think small business owners represent the economic center, and the Liberals are on their side, against the unions. Since when does being an ordinary citizen preclude you from being criticized for doing stupid things? I'm an ordinary citizen too, but you dare to criticize me . I am from BC, but I just don't agree with your assessment. These Liberals are certainly not right wing, unless you think Adam Smith was right wing too...they just aren't reform liberals like Trudeau, Chretien, or Copps. If they were right-wing they'd have over-turned the BC Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage, etc...on those sort of issues they're in the center or on the left.

Obese Children & Parental Responsibility
Choke replied to ndpnic's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Abused children already fall through the cracks most of the time. What sort of mechanism would you suggest? Ok, so then what exactly would you do about it...start grabbing every fat kid you see and sticking them in foster homes? Hope into one hand and crap into the other, see which one fills up first. -
What did Bush ever do to Canada? NOT Iraq. CANADA. Why are we so worried about his policies elsewhere when his policies toward us especially on trade have been better than the Democratic alternative?
-
The weaponization of space will be reality within 20 years no matter what Canada says. We can be on the side of the guys who have the weapons...or not, but we can't stop it from happening. While true, that misses the point entirely. This is all about placating the Americans and not at all about our own defence. What a revelation...
-
Stoker is right. The NDP tried to make a big deal out of it then to no avail. Because they're our biggest trading partner and if we don't participate, they're still going ahead with it, but we won't have any say in it or any access to info on it.

The level of ignorance here is ridiculous...of course Bush knew, kimmy is right. If so many Canadians oppose missle defence, why did such a huge majority vote for the Liberals and Conservatives? Everyone knows the plan is going ahead no matter what Layton does and there are times when it's best to shut up. Layton is only playing to his base here, people like maplesyrup, who already like him, he isn't winning any friends doing this, certainly not a few percentage points.

Obese Children & Parental Responsibility
Choke replied to ndpnic's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If a child spends the first 4 years of their life with parents A & B, then a year alone with parent B, then 3 years with parents A & B during which they become obese, then 4 years with parents B & C during which they become more obese, after which they spend the rest of their childhood with parent C who would you like to blame? Also, parent A was an alcoholic who was drunk during the time the child became obese. Parent B is certifiably insane. Parent C is a single parent. The child is NOT inactive, food is NOT used to parent, and parent C is not obese. The child simply eats too much and food is too readily available at school for it to make a difference if diet is regulated at home. Legistlating parenting is too messy and too complicated for me to trust any government to do it right. A fair better solution in my opinion would be to educate the children themselves. If children were taught about nutrition they would be able to make healthier choices. -
Who fills their coffers? I don't think it's you. Unity is right wing, NDP is left, Liberals are center. The NDP is legally tied to big unions...that's not centrist. It's sad to see an NDP supporter slaming public transit just because the Liberals are the ones building it. Olmpics before welfare. So insteand he should've sold them to "domestic interests" for less money? Because if they'd been willing to pay, they'd own'em now instead of foreigners. It's all about the money. So what you're saying is that he cut welfare and you're bitter? EDIT: Why aren't the tags working?

How many times do I have to say it? BUSH ALREADY KNEW!!!

Obese Children & Parental Responsibility
Choke replied to ndpnic's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This is true, but it doesn't address the issue at hand. The issue is whether it is a CRIME to have an obese child and I think that is a ridiculous notion. There are too many variables to blame one person for their children's obesity. -
What did Layton's little tirade accomplish? Nothing. Bush did NOT need Layton to tell him something he already knew (you think his advisors haven't told him about this?). Layton helps no one by doing this.

Obese Children & Parental Responsibility
Choke replied to ndpnic's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Ndpic, that is insane. Especially considering that children don't always stay with the same parent. -
You need to be registered with the Star to follow that link. Anyway...this is the single stupidest thing Layton has done yet. What an idiot...I saw him interviewed once and he said he could work with anyone, that if he were the PM he would accentuate the positive and look for things he could work together with Bush on. So much for that. Layton is weird...he's not charismatic or funny, even though he seems to think he is. Watching him at the press gallery dinner was just painful.
