  1. I am a Conservative...American Republicans are by and large classical liberals with Bibles and so is the CPC. However, the CPC is a softer version, since Canada is such a liberal country they usually stick to classical liberal free market crap and stay quiet on moral issues. But I still vote CPC because they're the least bad. I don't think it's anti-Canadian to be pro-American. I think Canada is like America's favourite pet, so the BEST thing for us is to be as close to America as possible, especially when they've got lots of money and their economy is on the upswing, otherwise they won't give us any scraps. This isn't because I am a "self-loathing Canadian" it's because I can understand that 30,000,000 is a lot smaller number than 300,000,000.
  2. We could always ban strip-clubs entirely, that'd solve the problem
  3. I think the only anti-Canadians are seperatists...no one else hates Canada (not even Bush).
  4. If you want to start drawing lines of distinction between different ailments, just admit that you don't want universal and/or taxpayer funded healthcare. Because nearly everything people do affects their health; if you want to cut out one ailment, you may as well cut them all out.
  5. So you're saying you didn't want to quit? I'm not going to waste my time reading a book I don't need...I quit, I'm not going to start again, I don't need the book. However, to deny FACTS about the effects of nicotine is just silly, plain and simple.
  6. One candidate wants to sell out to America and the EU, the other to Moscow...Moscow's closer so I'm betting that either Yanukovych will win, or his half of the country will rejoin Russia. I did some research a few years ago and found that in almost all of the former SSRs Russians make up either a substantive minority or even, in the case of Kazahkstan a slim majority...it seems a little ridiculous that huge areas with Russian majorities remain outside of Russia proper, and I doubt Russia will tolerate it forever. Also important, Russia has never before allowed Ukraine to fall under the influence of western Europe and I doubt they'll let it happen now. The EU has already engulfed Poland, traditionally controlled at least to some extent by Moscow and now they want Ukraine? It won't be allowed to happen.
  7. Nicotine is a muscle relaxant...that's a fact. Nicotine triggers the release of dopamine...that's a fact. I quit through willpower and saying you quit without willpower is ridiculous, unless you weren't addicted in the first place...you had to want to quit and that's willpower.
  8. The regime will be changed with CIA backing and everything will be fine...or there'll be a minor conflict between Israel and Iran, and that's the worst case scenario IMO. The mullahs are fanatical but not insane, they've no desire to allow their entire country to be sacrificed just to bother Israel.
  9. Martin doesn't want the opposition to undermine him...Layton would only make an ass of himself and the country and Harper would agree with Bush more than Martin which would also be embarassing. It's better for Martin and Martin alone to speak for Canada. I would rather Harper or Layton were PM, but they aren't and they can't expect to act as if they are.
  10. Walmart is a bigger economic entity than many countries...throwing them out would be like placing a total embargo on one of the world's major nations and the consequences would be no less severe. Unless Canada wants to opt out of capitalism, and being a first world country, there's not much to be done about Walmart. Besides that, unions have become less about helping out the little guy and more about their own political power. Unions have become the moral equivalent of corporations...they both fuck over the common man and make a profit on it. Supporting the bureaucracy required for a big union is expensive and drives down the wage of the common worker.
  11. As a former smoker, I have to say that the risk of second-hand smoke damaging your health as a non-smoker is basically non-existent if you don't live with a smoker. It would be nice to ban all health risks, however...people can't really taste much of a difference between trans-fat and healthy fat, and no one is addicted to trans-fat. Tobacco is completely different, there is no viable alternative, no nicotine delivery system the same (I know this from experience) and people ARE addicted to tobacco, so it's totally ridiculous to try to ban it...they tried that once with alcohol, remember how well that worked?
  12. While I think bi-lingualism is a complete joke and completely unrealistic and backwards, I still like the Bloc better than any other party, and I'm a Conservative from BC. I would love for Quebec to split off because I think it would result in a chance for BC and Alberta to split off as well. If BC and Alberta (and mabye the Yukon and NWT for good measure) formed a seperate nation it would be far richer and have a federal government that actually represented the people who live in this part of the country. I wouldn't mind having a free-trade agreement with the rest of Canada, but that's it, no more French and no more Ontario controlling things.
  13. Banning trans-fats is an excellent idea in my opinion. There's just no justifiable reason to use them instead of more healthy fats.
