  1. You mean 200 years ago?
  2. Chris is right. Atomic weapons are simply useless for us to have. No country threatens our national security, nor will they in the forseeable future. I'm in favour of abolishing nuclear weapons entirely...they defend NOTHING, no one can even use them anymore for fear of the reaction from the rest of the world.
  3. If a barrier of phlegm can't be made between the lungs and the tar, you can't cough it out.
  4. Not me. I didn't mind that at all, it was his money wasting policies that bugged me. Be honest, the NDP gets into power because of unions. I agree, but that's not the point. The Liberal Party of BC has viable, sustainable economic policies. The NDP doesn't. Honestly the sponsorship thing wasn't a big deal to me, governments pay back their funders...that's a given. It isn't "screwing up" to do what every politician since the beginning of time has done.
  5. Eating fast food once will not harm you. Smoking one cigarette will harm you.
  6. Smoking is inherently bad for you. Fast food is not. Faulty logic.
  7. People who whine about moderation on forums generally have never tried doing it...it is a thankless job, you do too little, people whine, too much, people whine, just right for 99.9% and that .01% will still whine. You guys should be thankful that you've been given the priviledge of using the forums. You should also realize that forums are NOT public property and you do NOT have any inherent "right" to say whatever you want on a privately owned forum.
  8. Neal, Unity will never go anywhere, it'd be interesting if they won a seat though. To the socialist panel, the NDP WAY overspent when we were in an economic boom and just kept spending...deficits are a great way to ensure that in the future, we will have LESS social programs and spending than now. That's exactly what happened...the NDP spent way too much and now we're paying for it. We can't afford the sort of services we had with the NDP in charge, it would be nice if we could, but we can't. I don't think the Liberals are perfect, but they're a hell of a lot better than the NDP.
  9. The government is giving us cancer...right, are aliens helping them with this? What other gems of conspiracy, I mean insight, do you have for us? A chemical (name escapes me) in tobacco smoke inhibits phlegm production, this makes it impossible to cough out all the tar in your lungs. That tar sticking to your lungs, layer upon layer is what does most of the damage to your cardio-vascular system, IMO. If another chemical could be used to increase phlegm production, it may allow you to cough up the tar and avoid most of the health risks associated with smoking.
  10. [sarcasm]Let the bells ring out and the banners fly.[/sarcasm] Are you 10 years old? Do you have any understanding of world politics?
  11. I researched, and here's what I found: -The CPC is made up of free-market liberals -The LPC is made up of free-market liberals and some NDP refugees
  12. Ridiculous.
  13. Because I don't see meaningful differences between the big two parties? If I'd thought a party that stood for something genuinely different, even the NDP, could have won my riding and that it wasn't going to be an exclusively CPC-Liberal race, I may have voted for someone else. In fact in hindsight, I would've voted NDP.
  14. You can call me a Fascist or a Conservative if you like, the terms are interchangeable as far as I'm concerned. I don't believe in democracy, if that's what you're implying. However, I was just kidding with the commie comment. Ok, I agree with you, but I think you're still talking about opting out of capitalism (not necessarily a bad thing, but in Canada's case, a radical step to take).
  15. Mabye you need to study what federal jurisdiction and provincial jurisdiction mean. We have laws that define these things. There is also lots of welfare fraud...some innocent people get caught in the crossfire, but they should blame those that defraud the government. Do you know how easy it is already to commit welfare fraud? You know how much easier it would be if you didn't need any ID? (For this one consider how many welfare offices there are in a given urban centre and multiply that number by the amount of welfare check and you have one day's earning for someone looking to commit fraud) That's a matter for debate, I've known a few and they certainly were. The average Canadian family is not in danger of losing it's source of income in the next month, so I'd say that's BS. Yes, in fact, I AM the other side, I've lived on LESS money than welfare recipients recieve and I still had disposable income and I was never in danger of becoming homeless. Actually my views spring from having witnessed the way people on welfare live and comparing it to people who work for low wages...the low wage workers have it worse, but they still manage. I have sympathy for people between jobs for a month, but not indefinitely and not at taxpayer's (you know, the people who actually work?) expense.
  16. How many of you commies (ie, the anti-Walmart crowd) have worked a low-wage job? How many have owned and operated their own business? How many think people who own corporations should work to their own detriment by NOT trying to make the biggest profits possible? How many think they know of a viable alternative to capitalism and an example of where it is working today?
  17. I voted in the last federal election based on a few pretty insignificant criteria, gun control (don't want it) and gay marriage (don't want it either), so I voted Conservative. I saw very little difference on other issues between Liberals and Conservatives...so I decided based on those trivial things.
  18. You realize this is an area of provincial jurisdiction and that the provinces DO have housing programs, right? Making your entire point moot. Furthermore, homeless people can go to hell, welfare is there for a reason. The only economic reason for homelessness is either living in a city with rent that's too high (living beyond your means...stupid) or a drug problem (also stupid), other than that, you CAN live on welfare and afford a roof over your head.
  19. I wasn't trying to make a case for cigarettes as a positive thing. I found when I quit that once I made the decision to quit, it was pretty easy, but I had to be really committed (the other times I tried it was hard and I failed).
  20. Better than banning Walmart would be banning unions.
  21. I think you underestimate the Russian resolve on this issue. I wouldn't say Russian tanks in Kiev is completely out of the question here.
  22. We've got the Americans for that...why would we want our own nukes? It would fly in the face of everything we stand for and give us NO advantage.
  23. Ok, I'll try this a different way: NO ONE HAS THAT RIGHT!!!
  24. Walmart doesn't actually have the lowest prices on most items, but in their flyers they'll put a few sale products that draw in customers while the rest of the store is filled with products with above average prices. So you only save money at Walmart the same way you save it anywhere else; by comparing prices with the competition. Walmart doesn't have anything near a monopoly.
  25. According to the Old Testament, killing anyone who is not a Jew by race or by choice (ie living in keeping with the Mosaic Law, etc) is not a sin. It's only wrong if it's one of God's people, and most people are not Jews. According to the New Testament, killing anyone is fine as long as you say you're sorry later, since Jesus died for your sins. I believe in the OT.
