  1. You know what is wrong with Arar, he is a good looking educated Canadian and he is of Arab descent. For people trying to create a holy war against the Islamic people that is an anethma (sP)
  2. The biggest worry for me is that I see the same smirk on the face of our Honerable Prime Minister. Where do these people come from.
  3. Thanks topez, I have always suspected that Canada is a huge arms manufacurer but could never find the information. Not for one minute do I believe that Harper is responsible. There are a lot of Hypocrites in Canada.
  4. If it would just wash that disgusting smirk off his face, I would be happy. Mulroney makes it quite plain how much he despises Canadians.
  5. The problem seems to be speed, when I was a kid I rode in Model T.s some of them would not got up a straight hill going forward but had to be backed up. An interesting ride for a kid. Well now the world is in speed mode, do you have your funeral planned because that is the only thing you are heading for and all the speed in the world will only get you there faster. It would be nice to stop and smell the roses once in a while. When you get to be fify then you become redundant at your job don't you, watch all those brighty young people coming on. that is where all the speed gets you.
  6. I think if one lives out in the country then they understand more about growing conditions and weather. I have no doubt that the climate is in a warming stage, but it is happening a little too fast. I think that when it happened before we were not even around. People who only look at pavement and have never had anything to do with farming have no idea of the real weather. Sure our weather is a lot nicer, not so cold and we can now grow things we were not able to before. But we also had a horrendously hot summer with a lot of smog. Because of the bad growing conditions for wheat and soybean, there will be an increase if the price of any food using them. I know that the biggest fear is not the changing weather but the fact that we just may have to change our lifestyles to slow it down. Its always money isn't it.
  7. deny deny deny and one day soon it will be too late. Look at what is happening in Africa, the increase of desserts
  8. While we are enjoying the warmest fall in history and are being told we have moved from the growing area of 3 up to 4 the Southern United States is drying up http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21494919/ Government projects that at least 36 states will face shortages in 5 years. An epic drought in Georgia threatens the water supply of millions. Florida doesn't have nearly enough water for its expected population boom. The great lakes are shrinking. Upstate New York's resorviors have dropped to record lows. And in the west the Sierra Nevada snowpack is melting faster each year While we in Ontario enjoyed a hot supper, water levels are low and many trees are stressed from the lack of rain. Will the whole of the sountern US become a desert and what will happen to the food supply?
  9. Bullying in the schools in Ontario is a continual news item, zero tolerance is supposed to be the answer but you can never have that because is takes a bully (parent) to create a bully. Bullies are raised, it is how it has always been and will be because they do not believe others have the same rights as them. The freedom to present their beliefs as they see it. Its the way they were raised. It would be nice if we had a dabate but it seems that common sense discussion is beyond the understanding of some.
  10. All that is very interesting and true but the comment about $10 an hour was mine, their concern that even at that wage they could not get staff. It seems we are heading into a huge shortage of not only available dishwashers but electricians, plumbers, brick layers, carpenters etc. Us old fellows are going to have to pay through the nose to get any of these services.
  11. Heard a hiring manager on the news last night for one of Ontario's largest tourist resorts complaining last night that they now have to pay $10 an hour just to get people to wash dishes. Oh dear, how sad. How can anyone survive on $10 an hour.
  12. Apparently from new items I have heard lately New Orleans is still a mess. Would it possibly be because a lot of the people who lost their homes were poor and not of the right colour?
  13. So what are your general thoughts on the Conservatives or do you just one to take one little imaterial item and start an argument
  14. I am glad Mr. Harper is meeting the Dalai Lama, is one of the saints of the world and it we had a few more, especially in our Canadian Government we would have a much greater country.
  15. We live in the near north we have gay neighbours out in the country, at last people, who no fault of their own are gay, are welcomed to the Canadian family, get used to it and quite trying to stir up trouble to suit your own sick beliefs.
  16. What????? I don't remember being involved in the "Indian" discussion but if I was I am sure you will enlighten me.
  17. If you type in the Ontario Association of Food banks you will find that over 90% of them are run by the local communtiy. There are a few run by the Salvation Army. I helped set up our bank 20 years ago and am still a participating member. We have a duly elected Board of Governors and are under no church.
  18. Not around here they don't the organizations are run by the general public
  19. This, again, is quite incorrect. There were a number of ways in which the number of children a family had in the olden days could be regulated, and these practices were commonly used. The primary consideration was the ability to feed the children; households that were less able to feed children tended to have fewer children. Go look at any census return from the 19th century and you'll see many families with only two or three children. In some cases this reflects higher infant mortality--a problem since rectified thanks to men--and the greater prevelance of childhood illnesses--again a problem largely rectified thanks to men--but in general it was the result of "natural" birth control--not feminism. Yes Kengs, I do a lot of family history and there are a few families with not too many children, mainly I find because the woman died and someone else had to raise any children left. One Family for instance Joseph Shier and Anne Sparling had 10 children and 95 grandchildre , there was a lot of birth control wasn't there. Only one woman had 2 children, she died in childbirth
  20. Tsk Tsk sarcasm, I retired from my job, I was a librarian. Have you read E. Pauline Johnston?
  21. So what does this prove Dogonporch other than the Natives were fighting to keep their land, is that wrong?
  22. Not much wonder the peoples of the world can't get along, we have a real big problem at home. Lots of fire breathing dragons out there.
