  1. Buffy this guy just gets stranger and stranger, anger management, methinks he should take his own advice.
  2. Hey buffy his grandma is still living. My mother has been gone for 24 years, she lived a pretty good life and died at 74. My grannie died in 1946, long time ago.
  3. Yes trex, I realize that . I call them bullies.
  4. Interesting that you talk about bias'. What makes you think I would vote for Jack Layton, never voted NDP in my life.
  5. Trex I am a little surprised and wondering why the very thought of growing and canning ones own food seems to be so upseting to some on here. Since I have always done that it comes as a shock to discover what a bad dangerous person I am. Most of the older women and quite a few of the younger ones in our area preserve their own gardens. Lately it has been by using a freezer but with the power outages it has become safer to go back to the old canning methods. Some of the older people still can meat but I never learned how to do that and would be a little leary of doing it. My dad used to tell us that in the fall as soon as it got cold enough to freeze the meat they would kill and hang it but when the January thaws came then they would get out the barrels and salt and preserve it that way. In the summer when meat was hard to keep they had meat rings. These were several neighbours who took turns killing a beast and sharing it with the others. We will kill our chickens this next fall and they will be frozen for Chicken soup. By that time they will be over a year old and a little tough for baking. I wonder how many on here have eaton racoon. I have and it is dark meat just like beef. In our food bank we quite often have moose, deer, bear and sometimes donated beef and pork. All these meats are kept in our freezers and were processed in government inspected slaughter houses.
  6. Yes Trex, you know the saying women should be seen and not heard and they most certainly must not dispute the all knowing man. We lived through the time but we know nothing.
  7. What did you mean by processed foods are not always desirable. Some of them can kill us. Such as different types of fat. Oh I am well aware that you are not a farm girl, having been a farm girl and farmer all my life I am well aware of the attitude towards farm people, I can hear it in you statements. You are like the lady who complained to the local committee on the use of the local curling club by farm women, she didn't think she should have to curl with them. A friend who applied for a booth at the local farm market to sell bread and such was told her kitchen would have to inspected by health inspectors. Which I think is only right. If you look up the rules for Ontario Farmers Markets you will likely find lots of information. As for natural gas, we had it on the farm when I was younger so it is available, high speed internet is available in a lot of places now. A farm family has fresh vegetables right from the garden, fresh eggs and milk, they know what their meat animals were fed. Did you not see the articles about the meat from downed cattle in California being fed to school children. If you buy yours at a super market are you sure you aren't getting that.?
  8. Hmm you just described your own actions.
  9. Poor guy I wonder who rained on your parade. Its all right for you to insult my life but oboy don't insult yours.
  10. No kids learn from their cruel, homophobic elders the same one who teach them to be bullies.
  11. No he is following his homophobic friends, its all right to beat up on and even kill gays, what a nasty group we have here.
  12. WHAT AMENITIES ARE FARMS LACKING? please read answers in your text.
  13. Who said that Oprah practises this, she just knows how to feature things that draw people into her show. I remember once being taken to task for going to church every sunday. The complaint was that as long as the minister had two suits this man was not going to church. Much like your complaints about Oprah.
  14. Scribblet when another poster on here goes to all the trouble to protest people processing their own food, isn't that directed by big business. We all know that for every person who grows and processed their own food big business lose dollars. Just this morning there is a discussion of the news about a drink that coca cola is selling that says children under 18 should not be drinking it. This is in very fine print of course and then would you believe it is sold in some high schools.
  15. Buffy cat I will be having fresh eggs for breakfast, my hens laid them yesterday and you must have observed the difference in eggs bought in a supper market and those bought fresh in a local market Yes I know Bush_Cheney must have had a terrible family history, he sounds so defensive.
  16. But isn't business our problem, why should they control information of what these people are doing, especially when we, the tax payers, foot the bill.
  17. Oh but don't we all know that these governmental agencies are controlled by big business.
  18. Since the original theme of this was anti consumerism, there is a good program being aired by SCN called Escaping from Afluenza. I have become increasingly upset over the consummerism and sell sell sell of our society. People are in debt up to their eyeballs because they think they need everything that is new. It horrifies me to see perfectly good kitchens being renovated, thousands of dollars spent on them and the realization that in order to have that kitchen the people will spend all their time working off the debt and never getting to really use all these so called wonderful improvements. We have a big problem with our local dump, it has to be replaced. I am sure if environmentalists looked at it they would be horrified. It is right on a hill leading down to a historic river. In our municipality there are perhaps 700 all year residental properties. Of course it goes up substantually in the summer. The new dump if they could even find a location will cost upwards of 3 million dollars and then how much will it cost to clean up the old and stop the probably leacheate into the river. Of course the taxes on the big summer homes helps us but they do not think they should support such things as roads, dumps, schools etc. in our area since they already do so at home. So isn't it time we addressed this over consumerism, we are trying to manage our dump but some of the other municipalities with less forsight are just shipping their garbage elsewhere.
  19. I have heard this ballyhoo about how bad it is to can your own food. What a load of crap it all is. I wonder who is behind this, the people who want to sell you their canned food. Funny in the food bank we have to check the dates of all their wonderful food now,so how great is it. I never knew of anyone getting sick from home canning and as I said I have lived on it for 73 years as has all my relatives and yes my kids are still canning. No one sick yet. The problem is that it is not particulary good for big business is it? Or are you saying that we are not aware of cleanliness, is this a new way of putting Canadians down.
  20. SO???
  21. Granny lived to be 75 and she never heard of your fancy botulism, now today there is constantly news of people getting Food poisoning. I have lived for 73 years on Canned food and never knew anyone who died from it. You know what did kill granny, it was having a baby every year and the old you know who couldn't keep it in his pants
  22. I find this notion that people are living longer lives hard to believe. My hobby is Geneology and I can go back, in one family, to the 1300's. I find that it is not that people are living to be older it is that new discoveries are making the lose of children less likely. My husbands gggreat grandparents lived well into their 70's and raised 10 children and lived to have 95 grandchildren. They were born in the late 1700's My own greatgreat grandparents, born just around 1800 lived well into their 80's. In our area today few people live past their middle 70's but one couple as well as my husbands father lived into their middle 90's. So what has changed?
  23. Have you been to church lately. In our area the only people going and supporting them are the elderly. You Want to put us to work.
  24. We have seniors living in our area who have lived here all their lives. They own their own homes and are pretty self sufficient. Many of them live on old age pensions and other government cheques. But when it costs over $1,000 to file the tank for the furnace they are looking disater in the face.
  25. Trex I agree with you 100%. Having always done those things, can, garden, sew, etc. Never had a lot of money to spend and didn''t need it. I got a big kick out of one of Oprah's shows that was talking about all these wonderful things to cut consumerism. You know there wasn't one thing she suggested that I hadn't been doing all my life.
