Is it the Conservatives or is it Conservatism?
Shakeyhands replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It was a combination of things, the Sponsership scandal and the constant muzzling of the MP's by Harper. -
Sure I do, but I'd rather more income tax breaks and get a big chunk back in the spring than to save myself a penny or three here and there. The only people the GST cut helps is though making large purchases all the time, and sadly, that ain't me. It was also panned by the experts. Here's one link. GST or Income tax cut

Liberal $1B learning passport program
Shakeyhands replied to capricorn's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think manufacturing is dead in this country, no way to compete with people who will accept a pittance from the corporations as wages. hat we need to focus on is the services and proffesional industries. The iberal plan works towards that. -
Liberal $1B learning passport program

If there was any proof that these cuts do the least bit of good I could see your argument. As soon as those companies agree to stop off shoring jobs THEN we can talk about the 1.5%. e have a very competitive tax rate anyway as it stands, with a very educated and healthy population. -
Yeah, and that one was a stupid promise kept. I'd like to see Ignatieff raise it back up and make more income tax savings. I loves me a good consumer tax! He must think people are really stupid to fall for something like this "proposed" tax cut...

I recognize that, my point is the optics on it are horrible. I merely wondered how it would play. Relax a little huh. btw... the CPC is involved in enough shenanigans, scandals and schemes that one more wouldn't hurt anyway.
-
shouldn't we at least confine the coalition talk to the coalition thread?
-
1) Do you follow politics much? 2) Ignatieff saying the a vote for the Greens, NDP or Bloc puts Harper back in kills your delusion.
-
I wonder how or if the Sturgeon revalation will affect things. Again, the optics are horrible on this one. Tory candidate lobbied for firm selling F-35 jets contrast it against this guy... Tory candidate forced to resign 3 days after winning B.C. nomination What exactly does this say to the average voter?

This is a pretty analysis of the current spot we find ourselves in.... Advantage.... Nobody I'm not familiar with James Moore, but going by the comments, he isn't one of the NP's CPC Darlings?

22 pages (so far...) on this issue from some people that I would consider critical thinkers. Harper and his people are so freaking clever. Very few words on the campaign about anything other than this stuff which is aplain old fabrication. What about the economy? What about spending on prisons that aren't needed and untendered fighter aircraft? What about dumping a portion of that money in to healthcare, help for families and seniors? Unless Ignatieff can change the channel, he is toast. -
this thread isn't to bash Harper, I'd love to see us examine all the statements by all the leaders. The one I mentioned just happened to be Harper, could have been any of them.
-
Forgive me for adding a thread when we have so many on the go about the election, but I though this might be fun to do... We can disect the claims that all five leaders are making. For instance: Listening to Harper today while giving a speech in Brampton ON. he mentioned that under his leadership Canada has reduced the cost of Government. Didn't we just hear less than a week ago that by utilizing contract employees that the costs were 78% higher? It seems that this should be pretty easy to disprove.

They have nothing else. Besides the coalition talk, and the fact that Ignatieff lived and worked outside of Canada. Take those two things away, the focus might well be on what crappy fiscal managers the CPC and their contempt for Parliament and by extension Canadians. Why would they not try to obfusticate their own issues? -

He answered the question. He just hasn't answered the question to satisfy the CPC who only have this to play on the fears of the feeble minded. You Conservatives really don't understand how our system works do you? I imagine it would depend on the budget wouldn't it. Such stupidity. -

I watched it live as well. How can he rule something like that out when it's part of our system? Hell, the Booster club brings stuff he said 20 years ago up (but in Tom L's case, people change) to hold against him. Why would he say definitively that he would do something that is perfectly legal and acceptable within the system? Ignatieff and the Liberal strategists need to do something to disallow the CPC to keep framing the issues. -

What a joke, I see you are buying in to the spin as well. Well Done. Dear leader would be proud. He answered it quite clearly for those of us that are capable of not being blinded by spin. Keep digging them up Scribblet, it is what you and your kind are best at. -
It's not, nor is it different that he was willing to for a co-a-li-tion with them. You really have to admire their strategists though.
