  1. You may delude yourself in thinking that torture is the way to win the war. In reality, it's the way to lose something even bigger. Who we claim to be.
  2. Romeo Dallaire, a man of have seen the worse of what human beings can do to each other, put it very clearly: torture is a slippery slope towards losing our moral standing. This is not about who is getting tortured. Or its dubious value as an intelligence gathering tool. It's about the fact that moral superiority is proven by adhering to hugh moral standards, not torture, not kangaroo court, not illegal detention or other methods only slightly above those employed by terrorists.
  3. What poverty IS in Canada is people with jobs lining at the food bank because minimum wage is too low. It's children coming to school starved. Iit's cockroach infested appartments, that still take 2/3 of a family revenue. No one here would argue that frugality is poverty. Nice try.
  4. It will be 1-0 for me then. Not to worry, I do not consider myself that moral or righteous. As far as brainless twaddle goes... do not worry, I still have to catch up to you. To come back to the topic at end here. There are people who go to bed hungry at night, and in most cases it is not due to bad decisions or character flaws. That should be cause for concrete action to ensure that does not happen - including, indeed - a few kicks in the butt where they're needed. Not scapegoating, blaming and demeaning.
  5. But nobody describes white Europeans as savages because of Hitler.
  6. It's nothing to do with skin colour, or place of origin, or religion for that matter. But most of the inferiors are not white. and the examples are almost always taken from non-white. Don't be surprised if I smile while watching you digging yourself into a deeper and deeper hole/
  7. You mean like white truckers do at Queen's Park two three times a year? And instead, I pointed to the stupidity and inannity of your opinions.
  8. Interesting... so you know that everybody at that protest is there all the time, that no one has a job, etc. Could it be that you're there watching them?
  9. In other words, you're shocked that I do not agree with the central theme of your argument, which that the Franco would be better off if they just gave up their language, or the little "they have a high school they have an hospital! they have a pool! that's unfair" side argument. The chip is obviously on your shoulder, and the gross ignorance is yours.. And speaking of insults... the "you Francos don't know what is best for you" tone of some of your postings would be an insult to my intelligence, if it wasn't so painfully wrong. Ciao indeed.
  10. Ahem, some historiansw have compared, on the basis of contemporary accounts, field yields in Huronia and France in the early 17th century. Guess who has the best one? So no, there were no pigs, no cows, no chickens. But more than a few First nations in the Americas knew agriculture. As for the "it was just the epidemics" idea, it conviniently forgets was launched by settlers in North America to displace/leiminate First nations, the conquests of Mexico and the Inca empires, raids by slavers in Brazil, forced labour in mines throughout Spanish America, residential schools. This is not about guilt, and yes there is not a single nation, a single culture on this planet with no blood on their hands. Does not change the facts.
  11. I agree with you that Holocaust denial should not be treated as a crime. But do not agree that it is preferable to debate it. Far better, IMO, to show it the contempt it deserves and ignnnore it. One would waste his/her time debating with someone who believes the Earth is flat. Even more so here.
  12. How do you dare deny freedom of expression?
  13. Never forget, Tango Not listening to garbage is a form of censorship.
  14. Booing a national anthem because the opposing team is based in another country. That was already stupid when St. Louis Blues fans interrupted the Canadian national anthem a few days before. Or each and every time New York Rangers fans were chanting "Devils suck" during the playing of their anthemn. Now, someething worthwhile to comment about?
  15. Excuse me if I find that one laughable. Especially considering the growing number of people who go to work then have to make a detour by the food bank one or twice a month.
  16. What would be deplorable would be to even keep reading your Holocaust denial cr*p. Ignored.
  17. Because, like most of everything he says, it is imbued with hate towards anyone who is not "white" enough for him.
  18. The issue is not the number of languages, it's the rights of Canadians.
  19. LOL Indeed. You make me laugh. Nice little dodge. If the high school, the pool.the hospital were in a English-speaking community, you would not be calling that preferential treatment. French-speaking inhabitants of Saskatchewan are likely to have less access to education services in their Canadian language, at any level, less access to health care in their canadian language, less access to government services, than the rest of the population. Preferential treatment indeed. ... the way you huff and puff because French-speaking CANADIANS dare not to assimilate? National unity is served by the rights and identities of Canadians being respected. The wedge is being wielded by YOU, with your "I know what is best for you" attitude and your dislike of the continued existence of french-speaking communities outside Quebec.
  20. The word I would use is cr*p. But I have seen the light Never mind that, for the most part, English-speaking children in Saskatchewan have access to better educational resources than French-speaking students, Never mind that French-speaking students who wants a post-secondary education in their Canadian language have to leave the province. Never mind that there are no more than a dozen or so French schools in the whole Province. Never mind that if were talking about Campbell's Bay, a Quebec village smaller than Gravelbourg, in a rural area with an English language high school but no French high school in the immediate area, neither you or I would use the word disproportionate. There is, somewhere in the Province, ONE French-language high school (founded and first financed by people who contributed to it in addition to their school taxes, at a time where education in their Canadian language was virtually (and rightfully) outlawed) in an area where there is not a full fledged English language high school because of the population size. That's enough of an excuse to scream "disproportionate". And thank you so very much for reminding of wrong headed it is of me not to recognize that I do not know what is best of me and that I need your guidance. Never mind that the "disadvantage" was the denial of the rights of Canadians to make their own choice. Never mind that the generation of French-speaking Canadians whose rights have been recognized are more likely to have a secondary and post-secondary diploma, less likely to be illeterate in either English or French, likely to have better jobs than their fathers and grandfathers whose rights were denied. Never mind that this is 2008, and that we are not turning the clock back to the days when we had less right. The condescending "I know what is best for you" act is laughable at best.
  21. That's right, you don't know. In the 1947 and 1948 editions of the World Almanac, it is clearly stated that the estimate of the Jewish populations are based on 1938 figures. The 1949 edition gives numbers pre and post-war, with a difference of 5 000 000 between the two. In a report written for Himmler in 1932, SS doctor Richard Korherr estimated that the Jewish population of Europe had decreased by one half between 1933 and 1942.
  22. Never mind that people in this country have the right to engage in peacful demonstration, which is what was happening... But hey, at least you got yet another opportunity to engage in racist raving. Go get some slaves.
