  1. You have still not proven your premise. Canada doesn't vote against UN general assembly resolutions against the US or Britain or china because there aren't any. International law is always and forever trumped by national security interests. Please show point to one single example of a UN General Assembly resolution (which are not worth the paper they are printed on) that had ANY effect on the party it was intended to chastise or condemn. Um, we voiced our disagreements about the WB settlements and called for a cessation of hostilities in Gaza and condemned the IDF when they killed an apartment building full of people to nail one asshole terrorist. And I'm pretty sure we'll continue to do so. Hmmmm. Firstly Canada does not "rubber stamp" Bibi's government and its actions. Please cite examples of this rubber stamp or better yet, please explain what the opposite of rubber stamp is. Secondly, most jews in Israel aren't Netanyahu supporters - its a coalition government there, you know just like Canada and I think its pretty safe to say that most Canadians DONT support Harper. Quite apart from making all kinds of unsubstantiated claims about what other people think or beleive, perhaps you can back up these contentions with more than just your personal feelings? For instance, Please point me to the poll that shows American Jews declining support for Israel.
  2. News flash, our nation is already totally dependent on oil. The entire world is totally dependent on oil. A strong canadian dollar has lots of positive effects on our economy too. I for one particularly like the increased trade balances.
  3. Yes, impressive gains for the 60th percentile and over. Incredibly poor for the lower 60%. and while worshiping at the altar of consumerism, please note the explosion of consumer debt that accompanied all that lovely stuff.
  4. Now that is truly pathetic of you. Unable to recognize or admit that America's shit stinks you lash out displaying just how much the toxic fumes have impaired your cognitive abilities. Yo, this is s discussion board on US POLITICS. A place where we DISCUSS US POLITICS. A place designed to afford everyone their two cents even you. But I suppose you think its just another place for the jingoistic promotion of all things american and criticism be damned even if it is accurate.
  5. Wow a whopping 17% over 33 years. Not that impressive. Of course, you can look at statistics thru all kinds of prisms. this link visually shows how the those increases are distributed. Seems the rich get richer and the poor get screwed every time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:United_States_Income_Distribution_1967-2003.svg
  6. Cliche?? You obviously haven't seen the "Hebrew Hammer", in a scene that will no doubt schock you, cameras were let into a meeting of this diabolical cabal. It was frightening to say the least. And here I thought it was the lox and gefilte fish. Silly me.
  7. So a movement to provide better nutritional education and information is seen as an assault of individual freedom? A program that encourages manufacturers and restaurants to provide more nutritional information and healthier altenatives is a diabolic attempt to shove food down the throats of all freedom loving americans!!! Its a constitutional right to be unhealthy, fat and stupid. Guess they never heard that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Oh wait a minute you can't make nearly as much money so screw that. Nanny state. Nanny state. Kill the unions - oh sorry that's a different thread.
  8. I suggest you take the needle outta your arm, cause it sure as hell ain't coming to the land of Timmy's and Crappy Tire.
  9. Step back there cowboy. How about in 1757 when George needed a loan and Ezechial McGregor from upper canada lent him 5 pounds? You wanna remain stuck in the past, be my guest. Its your country that has accumulated $14 TRILLION in debt in 30 years. And that was the point. I'll type slowly so you can keep up. Debt service isn't principle in this case, its interest. Perhaps you should read the US Budget documents now and then so you can actually engage in a conversation of substance. I know there's a point there somewhere....... No wait that was just your head. If you want to engage in idiotic insults, tangential and non sequitar response to the topics at hand, then I'm fine with that as I can give as good (or in your case much better) as I get. OTOH I'd much rather engage in some sort of intelligent exchange. America's shit smells pardner, just like every other damn place on this planet. It is my sincerest hope that one day Americans will wake up and start wondering what the stink is.
  10. Thats right its the peoples money, not the governments. If a government decides not to collect taxes from corporations, they are making a decision to decrease the revenue of the state. In decreasing the revenue of the state that government is DEPRIVING the state of those monies and therefore is placing a greater burden on the people. It never fails to amaze me that americans aren't willing to pay for their exceptionalism, their superiority, their military dominance, their wars, their massive mistakes. they'd rather borrow money and burden the future and cut spending to programs that actually help people (although getting rid of subsidies and waste is always a good thing). When is somebody going to tell them slashing spending isn't going to reduce the debt and its impossible to slash spending to equal current tax holiday revenue levels. Its pretty easy to do the math, but for some reason americans can't quite grasp the concept of paying for the wins and sins of their country.
  11. I'd like to know exactly how a "political system" can be "heavily influenced" by any third party. As for US foreign policy being influenced by the needs of an important strategic ally in a volatile region of international strategic importance - Gee I'm shocked. I had no clue.... Ego is a terrible thing ain't it. I don't know what biz your in, but I know that when I closed a big deal with bonus margins I liked to crow a little, might even have overstated my influence and salesmanship a tad. But I'm sure the much more sinister explanation is correct like it always is.
  12. I don't dispute that the kid is terminal. I am just concerned about the process and conditions of state intervention in this case.
  13. Ah the nirvana of a free market economy. No reason to make sweatshops illegal in a free market economy is there. there's plenty of other jobs that workers could get. And naturally when all those sweatshops lose their employees to better paying, safer jobs the sweat shop owners will change their ways, cause that's how a free market works. There's a reason communism failed - it is a political system that completely ignored human nature. so why not have an economic system that exploits all the most wonderful aspects of human nature like greed, dominance, territoriality, etc. That's gotta be successful for everyone.
  14. That's a good one. Couldn't possibly be that the US doesn't think that the UN Security Council is the place to resolve anything when it comes to Israeli/Palestinian issue. Nah, afterall the UN is as fair and balanced as Fox News. OTOH, the current US administration has stated rather clearly that the settlements are "illegitimate" and direct talks between the concerned parties is the only way to resolve the issue. Then again history has demonstrated to us that in this instance direct talks are a great way of keeping a festering wound festering. But, you never can tell with dem joos, I read somewheres that they have a master plan for taking over the entire world!!! I even saw a movie called the hebrew hammer and they showed a meeting of these guys. Very scary.
  15. I cannot even begin to imagine the heartache for all involved in this. I am having an incredibly hard time understanding how a parent's wishes for their toddler are being overturned by the legal system. I can't believe that doctors would arbitrarily refer the matter to the OPGT and the courts. There must be more to this story (at least I'd like to believe there is.) Reminds me of Teri Schiavo, accept the role of the husband is the province and that just doesn't seem right. I saw that moronic doctor on Faux claiming this was the "mentality of rationing" in Canadian health care. But I'm not surprised by hearing ignorant and completely incorrect opinions on Faux from their talking head "experts". And yes, if the kid is transfered to Detroit, OHIP will pick up the tab. So much for Dr. Moron Faux.
  16. What I find amusing about this kind of nonsense is how these conspiracy nuts believe that they and their "goy" governments are so stupid. The corollory of course is how smart the jews are. Maybe they are just jealous of anyone with IQ's greater than 98. For the sake of accuracy. Arms exports are a nice little chunk of dough, but no where close to number one in Europe where total arms exports amounted to somewhat less than 2% (c.<$20 billion)of total exports ($1.9 trillion). And I wouldn't describe a Canadian arms export market of $177 million last year as major market.
  17. No that wasn't a nitpick. It was a response to a grossly incorrect statement you made. I don't know, I think we give more support to allies like the US and Britain. We give lots of other countries free passses like Saudi Arabia and China. Kinda dumb discussion tho. I have no idea what you mean. Why don't you start another post and explain this one.
  18. I agree Jewish land ownership (kibbutz) created more productive farming thru irrigation. The large arab land holders that sold land to the jews benefitted from jewish capital, and certainly some of the improvements in distribution and infrastructure helped the arabs, but only indirectly. Now, perhaps you can point me to some credible sources about the land being "rather desolate" when do you mean "prior to jewish migration". (spare me the mark twain anecdote). And I am still waiting for an explanation why earlier agricultrual production figures would be more appropriate.
  19. Why would that be more appropriate to the point I was making? do you think that jewish ownership of arable land was greater earlier, or that their % of production was even greater?
  20. Sorry, but the UN didn't create israel. Israel was created by force of arms. As for its right to exist, name me a country that doesn't. I also wish for a more democratic middle east. I don't pray but I'll hope.
  21. I am not denying historical fact. You tell me that jewish terrorism in the 40's is relevant because pro Israelis ignore the fact that Israel's founding fathers were terrorists. I say it isn't relevant to the issues at hand. Yes the JDL is a terrorist organization and a pretty crummy one at that. As for the nutty settlers I consider them to be criminals not terrorists. I find them to be even less relevant to the discussion. I don't mind discussing the brutality of the occupation. what would you like to discuss about it? As for international law, I'm sorry but it might make for an academic discussion but there isn't a country on the planet that pays any attention to international law when their own self interests/security is at a stake. But maybe I'm wrong here too, so I'd appreciate it if you could give me a couple of examples where international law has trumped national self interest. Your kidding right? the major reasons for the palestinian's failure is western governments' inaction? What utter nonsense. The "major reasons" all have to do with Palestinian leadership, Israel, and the Palestinian's arab brothers with a minor shout out to the United Nations. All the rest is so much political rhetoric that means absolutely nothing. If that's the main problem, then what is the rationale for their inability? How can this inability be overcome? What do the Israelis AND the palestinians have to do? Please get back to me asap on this one. don't play stupid. I have acknowledged the historical fact of jewish terrorism. I used him because he is the example of a terrorist thug who couldn't change his spots when thrust into a political position. And he is the father of international terrorism. And I've failed to mention a lot of things, like my opinion of your obtuseness, but hey there's only so much space. My message isn't changing. I guess you didn't quite get it so I'll repeat it a little louder. THE PLO WAS FORMED TO DESTROY ISRAEL. ARAFAT WAS A TERRORIST, A THUG AND A GANGSTER. these are facts. how did you "call me out on them". And no, I do not beleive that "any information" that has to do with the formation of Israel is relevant to the discussion today. Israel is an established and sovereign nation and nothing is going to change that. Moral equivalency is irrelevant to the discussion. We can go back and forth about the injustice of this and the criminality of that and those nasty palestinians and those bastard israelis and it doesn't advance the discussion one iota. I acknowlege that situation isn't black and white. I acknowlege that both side are culpable and have done truly nasty things to each other. Now can we get on with some meaningful discussion about how the palestinians and the Israelis can actually move forward and create the conditions necessary for palestinian statehood?
  22. Regrettably this is what passed for serious political analysis in the late 30's. This notion that the land was destitute or barren before the arrival of the jews is simply wrong. There can be no question that the influx of jews did increase available capital and stimulate the economy, but by no means were they economic "white knights" improving the lot of the poor backward arabs. If one examines land ownership, agricultural production etc. directly from British Mandate records and the last survey prior to the mandate ending, that arabs owned over 90% of the arable land and accounted for some 75% of output. What is true is that jews had far more efficient kibbutzes and utilized irrigation techniques that made them far more productive.
  23. Ah so reminiscent of my hippie days. What exactly are you smoking man, and where can I get me some?
