Who is the greatest Prime Minister of all time?
bud replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
no sh*t. it's the die-hard sports fan mentality. oh and jbg and a few others here see harper's unlimited commitment to israel as something that trumps everything else. -
Quebec Pupil Wears Headphones to Avoid Hearing Music

lols in all seriousness, how many muslims do you guys know who do not listen to music or do not allow their children to listen to music? from the few muslims that i know, neither have anything against music. in fact, one of them will most likely be getting a seat at the vancouver symphony orchestra soon (a briliant violinist) and another is a relatively successful dj. the reason that we're hearing about a news like this for the first time in canada is because it's not a common practice in islam. especially when it comes to muslims outside of wahabist sects. it's SO wrong to use this story and try to make it look like all muslims do this. -
in that case harper would have to get rid of a few others considering how many other conservative mp's have been caught doing 'shady' dealings.

how has he been outed as a racist?

feel the wrath of jbg. this, even after the ottoman empire took in sephardic jews after the spanish inquisition. even the persians saved the jews a couple of times, yet, jbg continues to be ungrateful.

don't forget to mention the ultra orthodox jews or christians who have strict traditions as well. you're painting with one stroke and seem to be unable to grasp that there are so many different types of muslims out there who practice the religion in different ways. this is called stereotyping and ignorance. what about all the traditions and customs surrounding kosher food? what about pork and jews? oh boy scotty! why are you so mad about the constraints in only 1 religion when it happens in your religion and other religions as well? why do you constantly stereotype when there are so many different muslims out there who practice their religion and customs differently?

either post something to back up your claims or start drinking from the cup. your words are useless without facts backing them up. -

buying what? that u.s. was exporting weapon to south korea? yes. i'm buying it. -
and covering the face? that's practiced only in a few countries. majority of muslim women in majority of muslim countries do not cover their faces. it's something that came from wahabism and if you ask most muslims, they do not agree with it.

just like in christianity, islam has several sects and sub-sects. for example: sunni, shia, wahabi, islmaili, bohris etc. and within these sects, for example, sunnnis, there are hanafi, sha'afi, hanbali, maliki etc. each of these groups have beliefs and interpretations that do not necessarily match with the others. for example: are muslim women in lebanon, turkey, palestine, egypt, morocco, jordon, indonesia, china required (or forced) to wear the hejab (head cover)? no. next time you try to paint a picture, remember that you'll end up looking quite ignorant if you use 1 stroke to paint.

what if they don't want to eat canadian bacon? is that against canadian values? stop looking like an ignorant asshat. just because 1 muslim family doesn't want their child to listen to music, it doesn't mean that all muslims like that. i keep trying to avoid reacting to your comments, but the bigotry which comes from being ignorant and your inability to be able to understand that not everyone who follows a certain religion holds the same values has gotten quite annoying. -
American policy shifting away from Israel?
bud replied to Post To The Left's topic in The Rest of the World
when thomas friedman is criticizing israel, you know things are changing: Washington, DC -- Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ) released the following statement on Thomas Friedman's column where he wrote that the "standing ovation [israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu] got in Congress this year was not for his politics. That ovation was bought and paid for by the Israel lobby" in The New York Times this morning: is criticizing u.s.' support for israel by the mainstream no longer a taboo? is the mainstream media finally showing some courage? if Tom Friedman of all people is now so anti-Israel and borderline anti-Semitic that he needs to publicly apologize, then you’ve reduced the accusation — and the movement that routinely spews it — to pure caricature. glenn greenwald -

even though i hate the show, the number of viewers it has shows how popular it is. 'little mosque' has over 1 million viewers per show, so i'm sure the tv ads are paying for the show and more. this is why the show has been picked up in europe, africa and even in israel. -
i think it is a subtle psychological process. they know the consequences of not crying, but they have known the consequences of not doing the expected thing for a long time, this is no different. aside from this though, i think that the idea of the leader, the father of the nation, the holder-together-of-the-society in hard times becomes the lightning rod for all those feelings of hope in the continuity of the people as a whole, of their history, their "koreanness". they project a lot onto these people we see as farcical. not to mention that majority of the population in pyongyang (where the state videos were released) are members or families of members of the workers party, which have a vested interest in the system. here is a good article talking about this: The South Korean magazine Weekly Chosun reported in October that it had obtained a list of 2,108,032 Pyongyang residents compiled in 2005 by State Security, a secret police organization. Of those capital residents, about 830,000 were members of the ruling Workers’ (communist) Party and most of the rest were their family members or prospective party members, the publication suggested, adding that there are only about 2 million party members in the entire country. Pyongyang dwellers tend to see themselves as having a vested interest in maintenance of the Kim family regime.

Earlier this month David Caton, the executive director of a relatively small Florida affiliate of the American Family Association, pressured Lowe’s to pull its advertising from TLC’s latest reality TV series, All American Muslim. Caton’s website, as Sarah Posner points out, claims that the show “profiles only Muslims that appear to be ordinary folks.” This is, ostensibly, to conceal the “Islamic believers whose agenda poses a clear and present danger to liberties and traditional values that the majority of Americans cherish.” Lowe’s subsequently bowed to the pressure claiming that the program had become “a lightning rod” for those with “strong political and societal views,” a decision that not only sparked a heated discussion, but the satirical “missing Lowe’s ad”
