Why does Mc Cain lost the election?
ft.niagara replied to Paul Weinstock's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
McCain just had no charisma. His over use of "my friend" and his "war hero" status just got old. In the end, he just seemed to be trying to go down like a good soldier because he wanted to be a player after his loss. -

America Envy/Anti-Americanism - Whence it Came
ft.niagara replied to jbg's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Oleg Bach has gone to bed. He had a long day. I checked the top 20 posters, and he was tops with 54 posts for the DAY. Now that Americans have had their day, I for one will cheerlead the Canadians as they heal the world. -
America Envy/Anti-Americanism - Whence it Came
ft.niagara replied to jbg's topic in Canada / United States Relations
I do not agree with the "actions of the Bush government" jab. What actions have been so horendous? World events have shaped his Presidency. There was 911, and there was anthrax. In response to that there was Afghanistan, and Iraq. As President, he was responsable to respond, he responded. Once in Iraq, and no WMDs have been found, the only reqestion remaining is when to leave. Obviously, there are differing opinions. Following the Afghan War, we were criticized for leaving too soon. After the first Gulf War, the US was criticized for not supporting the opposition to Sadam. You can not have it both ways, criticize for failure to act, and then criticize action. It just seems there alot of back seat drivers in the world. -
America Envy/Anti-Americanism - Whence it Came
ft.niagara replied to jbg's topic in Canada / United States Relations
There alot of advantages in not being the big brother. Unfortunately, the European Wars changed some of that for the United States. If the US becomes more isolationist, as may happen, or is destroyed, it will be interesting to see whether the world will be better or worse off for it. My impression is that Oleg Bach is an America basher who revels in dissing the United States. Below are some speculatiions as to a world without the US, and such a world would not necessarily bode well for Canada. Until now, he world has historically had a "most powerful nation". Before the US, it was Britain, before Britain it was perhaps France, before France, perhaps Rome. It has been within the Europe/North America club, but it was not Asia. One can only wonder if Oleg Bach would be more or less critical of a world dominated by Russia, India/Pakastan. or China/Japan. Who knows, perhaps he may get to find out. Here a few speculations on a world without the US: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/...ut_america.html http://english.pravda.ru/opinion/feedback/...-2004/6693-us-0 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6613861.stm -
Was the US Right to Declare Independence?
ft.niagara replied to jbg's topic in Canada / United States Relations
My father was a Mason and my mother in Eastern Star for awhile. They said there was nothing "bizarre" about the organization. Your take on history and the world in general is different to say the least. -
Was the US Right to Declare Independence?
ft.niagara replied to jbg's topic in Canada / United States Relations
I didn't know that the Queen and the royal household were so important in the world. And I thought that they made for just some nostalgic tourist trimmings to the English tourism package, and that any courtesies shown them were out of respect for the English traditions of law, language, and order. I would never have thought that a frail looking old woman would have ordered a hit squad. I know she didn't like Diana because she wasn't a team player, but she sure kept the royal name in the National Enquirer. What do they say, bad news better than no news. -
Was the US Right to Declare Independence?

I think that it would have been better had they not revolted. If there was same expansion, the present country would have been all of North America. United States of Europe, United States of North America. Continental governance is the direction of the world order. Another speculation is should there have been an American Civil War, or should the South been allowed to depart. The slave issue would have solved itself in time, or the slaves could have been purchased by the government and then freed as was done in other parts of the world. The South had joined the union voluntarily as individual states, why did they not retain the right to leave? -

You give the impression that you are continually drunk, as in bar stool drunk. Just give you the bait and gulp. You are too easy. -
Are Americans More Honest Than Canadians?
ft.niagara replied to Oleg Bach's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Huh? It sounds like you are one of the angry poor talented, jealous of the richer, stupider brothernlaw. In fact, it is probably a pattern in your life, blame the other guy while you wallow in your beer or keyboard. -

Jenny, You sure are an opinionated sort with almost 1000 posts in two months. You need to go back to work. You absolutely do not have enough to occupy yourself. My opinion is the board is fairly balanced in ideological makeup, and that the people who populate the boards are in general smarter than the general population, although some more than others. With only two months of participation, your opinion is biased to a relatively short period of time. -
Condoleezza Rice addresses Meher Arar
ft.niagara replied to mikedavid00's topic in Canada / United States Relations
I am surprised that this is such a hot topic here. It is almost as if there is nothing else to talk about. The link given by AW is a CBC link. I have seen no mention of it in American websites or newspapers. I would think that mistakes happen, sorry. If there is such as thing as a terrorist network, and a 'War on Terror', there are casualties. Good people get killed or injured by action, and inaction. The above sentiment has merit. Mr. Higgly, for his own purpose, seems to be totally biased. -
what canada is not- a democracy
ft.niagara replied to no queenslave's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I am shocked that you still have to pay the queen. The only good thing is she probably doesn't take very much of your money, at least not enough to leave you broken. -
Schoolyard bully on steroids. Boots to throat, and ripping off is a bit graphic. Probably some 4'9" mig getting off on his computer.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationw...,1,636064.story It is interesting that this freedom of expression is not absolute, especially with regard to criticism of the Jewish/Israel lobby. The professor in question is the son of survivors, he is jewish, he is a popular teacher, but his only sin is he does not tow the PC line. Academic freedom??? Freedom of expression??? The same is true with regard to other issues. Freedom of expression is tempered by economic realities, so the constitutional guarantees are perhaps an illusion.

I am driving a mercury now, and my parents a taurus station wagon. Well satisfied with them, and with the thought that many families are supported by a Ford plant outside Buffalo, although not as many as previously. Boeing is one of, if not the biggest positive balance of trade companies, but airbuses are very common. Other postings complain about WalMart, and jobs. My point is it is time for people to start putting money where their mouth is and stop lecturing about what they know and others don't know or understand.

I was only commenting to your comment "...you ignore the point that the U.S. has decided freedom is inconvenient, scary, and very September 10." I presumed that you meant that the US uses scare tactics, analogy to boogieman, to institute procedures you view as heavy handed and freedom robbing. The whole 911 Commission Report said that the US had not done enough, and you think it has now done too much. Is that remotely what you meant? One might suggest that your reference to "very September 10" labels you as ...

The US is the boogie man. Man that is coot, I mean cool.

Really? You own a Jap car? I am sorry, I didn't know. I did say that your thoery about English and freedom/good government is probably valid. I think you just think I am always targeting you, which is not so.
-
If my thoery holds, you are probably a liberal leaning, non patriotic minded yuppie who has never owned a NA manufactured car. Further, you undoubtedly do not comprehend how the purchase of big ticket items from foreign companies effects ultimately your countries balance of payments, and indirectly/directly your own job/income/opportunities. I have only owned big three cars with one exception, an audi, the worst car I ever owned. I have gotten routinely well over ten years service and over 100000 miles out of every one.

Should Christians Recognize and Participate on Christmas?
ft.niagara replied to betsy's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Jefferiah, perhaps you are right, and the post well intentioned. It is just that Christmas has been under attack for so long by secular humanists, that the paganistic arguement appeared/appears to be another attack. The exact date is unknown, the date was chosen to be a counter to popular pagan rituals of the day. As far as God's opinion, I would think that he would look more favorably upon attention than benign neglect. There are alot of things which I find questionable, especially in the RC version of christianity, but when you question the practice of praying to favority saints, or confession to a priest for example, sure enough there are passages which support the practice. Graven images are taboo, but RC churches are full of them. In the end, God seems to be tolerant, at least since the end of the Old Testament. -
Should Christians Recognize and Participate on Christmas?
ft.niagara replied to betsy's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Since betsy does not believe in God or Christ, why should she be interested in whether or not it is an insult to something that does not exist. except to deprive others the opportunity to celebrate an event? Same goes for the evil and bad arguement, what does it matter if there is no evil, or bad, just relevance. -
score big in that relatively untapped, resource rich, population poor place called Calgary.
-
I have a thoery that those who buy from the origional three NA car manufacturers are more patriotic, and conservative than those who buy foreign brand names. Of course I can not prove it, and I might be even wrong, but that is my thoery. If I had alot of time and money, I guess I could make psychological study (scientific) out of my thoery. Similarly, the thoery that English is the language of tolerance, scientific achievement, prosperity and good government is also probably a sound one. It would just take alot of time and money to try and prove it.

PQ says Quebec needs full control of immigration
ft.niagara replied to Leafless's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
The melting pot concept works only if the pot is small enough for the heat to get to all parts of the pot. In Canada's case the pot is very large and parts of it are protected. The US has Puerto Rico which enjoys its startus between statehood, and self rule. The best of all worlds.
