  1. I like the charge for ambulances, it helps filter out people just looking for a free taxi ride. Before we worry about which ambulance rides are or are not emergencies, we need to be filtering what ER visits really are emergencies.
  2. We don't hide our faces in Canada. The ceremony is to publicly declare their acceptance of the laws and customs of this country. Uncovering their face is the minimum they should be expected to do.
  3. That the current federal courts would come up with a decision that is so extremely nonsensical is to be expected these days. The more obvious the correct course of actions is, the more certainty that they will make the wrong judgement. If there was ever a case where the correct decision was obvious, it's that you can't hide your face for things that require you to be identified. We are long passed the point where the federal govt needs to start using the not withstanding clause to override the courts.
  4. Trinity wins their first provincial case (in Nova Scotia): http://news.nationalpost.com/2015/01/30/kelly-mcparland-crusade-against-trinity-western-law-school-runs-up-against-an-intelligent-judge/ Further: It's going to be very interesting to see if the other provincial law societies continue with their opposition after this.
  5. A local paper is not a national news organization, but I concede your point anyway.... YES, the Star is marginally worse.
  6. The only way I can see American businesses getting compensation at this point is if their own government gives it to them. The only reason the US had control of any assets in Cuba is because they invaded it and set up their own puppet dictator. How often is compensation ever given after a revolution? The Americans didn't compensate the British… did they? At least Cuba offered the bond issue at the time. The US not only refused it, but they made sure that it was economically impossible. I could see…maybe… Cuba offering a symbolic compensation value that might look large enough at first, but would be offset by taxes, penalties, royalties, etc for land, assets, and resources that were illegally obtained in the first place… leaving just a token sum to actually be paid.
  7. I had a feeling that Raul would eventually insist on the return of Guantanamo before negotiations could continue. It looks like that where we are now: http://news.nationalpost.com/2015/01/28/cuba-demands-return-of-guantanamo-bay-compensation-by-u-s-before-relations-can-resume/ Cuba demands return of Guantanamo Bay, compensation by U.S. before relations can resume Even I didn't think he'd ask for compensation though!! This was kind of interesting before, it just got a lot better. How badly does Barry want this to be his legacy?
  8. Please. Some older Canadians like the warmer weather in Florida when it's particularly cold up here, but how many want to live there year round? "Patriot" is a term that might have special meaning to Americans, but it makes Canadians snicker. In my case, almost all of the money I make comes from the US, so to me it's only fair that I spend at least some of it down there.
  9. ONE incandescent bulb is usually more than enough to make up the difference. Seriously, give your head a shake, you're starting to sound like David Suzuki.
  10. LOL. Sorry about that, I mistook you for a different poster. My apologies! My point still stands about your position on energy efficiency. It is a pretty bizarre piece of twisted logic that fits right in with the left-wing "anti-carbon" narrative.
  11. You get people lining up to give you money.
  12. Naw. We can have our differences and still treat each other like family. It shouldn't be much different than moving from state to state in the US - each has different laws and priorities, but they still make it work. When I say it shouldn't be much different, I mean it shouldn't HAVE TO be.
  13. Let me get this straight. You think a space heater plus an LED bulb combined uses less energy than an incandescent bulb by itself?
  14. Required, yes. Necessary, no.
  15. The shit he just posted is left wing propaganda. If he believes a word of it, then he doesn't understand any of it. Sure it does. Every day. Keep the heat lower than 20C in the house, because you know the actual heat in the room you're using with the lights on will be warmer.
  16. None of the Canadian national organizations are particularly good. Global News and National Post tend to do the least bad job most of the time.
  17. Oh goodie. The leftie knows how to cut and paste a bunch of stuff he doesn't even understand. Good for you. Any attempt to try to paint a furnace that heats a whole building as more efficient or using less energy than a light bulb is dishonest at best, and is most likely being expressed by someone who failed basic math.
  18. We didn't need it before, we don't need it now. It's needless interference in the market.
  19. CBC is a joke. By far the least credible news organization Canada. Leftwing propaganda, and little else. I do not doubt that in the least. Your posts make more sense in that context. I want solid balanced journalism too. That's why I do not watch CBC any more. It's garbage.
  20. We were always good neighbours. Even though you tried to attack us several times, we still let it slide, no worries. I have one, and I do see the world far beyond the US. People who only want to go down there to shop, or up here to hunt, shouldn't need one.
  21. The alternative bulbs are a solution without a problem. Regular incandescents are safe, inexpensive, last a long time, and use very little energy. Added bonus for cold climates, they warm up a room slightly. I'm just glad incandescents are still much easier to find than they're supposed to be. Most stores around here at least still have a lot of even the 100 watt ones in stock.
  22. CBC said that last election too. They do not report news on CBC, they attempt to create it.
  23. Why? It never was before. Up until a couple years ago, going back and forth between the US and Canada didn't require a passport. It worked fine.
  24. Even two feet is not that bad. People who don't get a lot of snow grossly over-react when it happens.
