They wouldn't enter the discussion if people stuck to discussing facts instead of conspiracy theories. Can we have a moratorium on any discussion that the Conservatives are just like the Republicans, Harper being just like Bush, the SPP, NAU, AGW, and the like?

Activist group heads to court to stop federal election
Bryan replied to stignasty's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Maximum term. Before, PMs could hold off an election for up to an extra year if polls were not in his favor at "normal" election time. A resounding yes to all of the above. -

No, he was right, he just didn't have to scream it. Message good, delivery bad. -

psst... don't yell. -
You think the tinfoil hat argument is getting old, but you supply a leftover script from the X-Files. Fabulous. But you want us to play the game, I'll play: http://www.judicialwatch.org/SPP.shtml Paul Martin? OMG!!!! It's a LIBERAL plot to sell out the country's sovereignty!!!! Good thing we got Harper in charge to stop it!!! http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?con...;articleId=8247 Merrill Lynch? OMG!!! The same guys who are claiming our banks are in trouble and are trying to discredit Harper's economic plan?!? Of course they want us to distrust the Conservatives!!! They want the Liberals back in power so they can continue their evil plot to sell out our country!!! Thank God Harper is here to save us!!!! http://www.newsmax.com/geoff_metcalf/north...8/26/27563.html Oh, so Americans think that in an NAU, that WE are a threat to THEIR sovereignty!!! That's OK then, right??

Disenchanted with Liberals, Conservatives & NDP?
Bryan replied to PoliticalCitizen's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
In Canada, it's 0.4 calories per 355ml can for Diet Coke. If you do the math on the label, it does add up to 0.4. The rule is anything less than 0.5 is "legally" zero. Same with trans fat, it's anything less than 0.5 grams. Besdies if anyone is worried about the effects of 0.4 calories, they have much bigger problems than their waistline. -
You need to get off this, it's deliberately dishonest. The Liberals cuts were very deep, and they continued to announce very expensive programs without actually delivering them. Most of the Conservatives spending was because the Liberals left them holding the bag for their gross mismanagement of the country's finances. You don't just stop paying your bills and try to claim you have large savings, then blame the next guy for wasting your savings when he was left to pay your bills.

What's your point? Are trying to imply that they are lying? Both claims are perfectly reasonable and verifiable. Manufacturers are able to make such claims because they've been tested. -

I hate defending such organizations, but as I understand it, the Canadian one is the real Democracy Watch. As far as I know Democracy Watch International not only came around later, but isn't really a real organization, just a website. I'm more interested in seeing where their funding comes from. -
I agree here. I don't understand why they are even allowed to be involved. They are a Provincial party, not a national one. Their very involvement makes a mockery of the system. People who support them are irrational. A protest a few times, sure I get it. But you literally cannot form a government, every Bloc seat in the house is a complete waste. Quebeckers might not like what the other parties have done, but only they have the power to change it. The Bloc can do nothing other than get in the way. I'd like to see laws that require a national party to actually run nationally to be considered an official party.

Hopefully at least this will give people an understanding of why a lot of others wanted the number of participants limited in the debate. Five is too many, no matter how legitimate a given candidate is. If you want any meaningful exchange, you have to limit the participants. Three is the absolute limit before it turns into a farce. Perhaps there should be two different debate formats. One all party free for all, and one that's just between incumbent and the leader of the opposition.

Harper says no to anti poverty video.
Bryan replied to independent's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'd stay away too. It smells like a set-up, much like the so-called arts cuts. Besides, what's he supposed to say? Any politician who claims he/she will eliminate poverty is inherently dishonest. -
It isn't breaking apart. It's getting bigger and thicker. It's increased 9.4% over this time last year, and even after last years so called record melt, it recovered almost completely within a few months. The sky is not falling, and the earth is not "globally warming". Climate changes all the time, that's what it does. Gets warmer, then gets cooler. Rinse and repeat. Business as usual.

No it isn't.

Here's some more documentation (albeit from a less than objective source): http://stevejanke.com/archives/195448.php WHoops, here's a reprise of the story in light of the current situation, with the added bonus of Bob Rae trying to copyright a song he claims to have written that he himself plagiarized parts of !!!!! http://stevejanke.com/archives/274526.php

Sure there was a point. You are being excessively alarmist without rational reasoning. You claimed the ice was receding and breaking up at an alarming rate. Currently, not only is it not receding, it's actually increasing. Not only that, even after last year's record thaw, it all came back quickly.

I'm more than happy to debate facts when they are presented. There were no facts presented by the OP, just ridiculous conspiracy theory fantasy. Big difference.
-
I watched it. It was an obvious set-up (local Toronto audience), but it was interesting. They should do it across the country and compare the results.

I never said it was an extended trend. I said the ice has increased 9.4% over this time last year. And it has.
-
You read both of them again. Ice WAS declining. Now it's increasing. Sea Ice is up 9.4% over last year, and we've seen an increase of 77,000 square kilometers in the last week alone. Even the degree of melt during the summer was slower. The neat thing is, even last year's large decline in the summer, was followed by an almost full recovery by mid winter: http://www.ijis.iarc.uaf.edu/en/home/seaice_extent.htm

harper offers tax break for parents with kids in arts
Bryan replied to independent's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Thanks. The funny part is; for several years we actually qualified for full welfare, our income being so low. It never occurred to us to even apply. We'd gladly accept a little help if offered here and there, but we were not about to take a full ride, we wanted to do this ourselves. I must say though, it sure would have made things a lot easier back then to have had all the additional credits and allowances that the Conservatives are offering to young families now. We might have been able to afford a TV or a washing machine. -
Just got finished watching to Don Newman on Newsworld. He had Bob Rae on as a guest, and he chastisted Rae for making a big deal about this. Newman actually made some good points that I had not thought of. One of the things he hammered Rae about was that politicians of all parties always have staff speech writers and letter writers. The speech conveys the points that the writer was told to write, but the actual word-for-word sentences and paragraphs are rarely those of the person giving the speech. Rae didn't see it coming, I'm sure he thought the CBC would happily cheerlead along on his witchhunt.

You mean that Arctic ice that has increased 9% over last year? http://wattsupwiththat.com/2008/09/16/arti...year/#more-3085 http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/
