  1. The majority of the mainstream media, including the National Post, have been actively campaigning for the Liberals during this whole election. With the obvious exception of the comrades at the Star, virtually everyone else -- even Stephen Harper's most vocal opponents -- have eventually admitted that he's the best guy for the job. The only reason it's likely to be a minority, is precisely because the media has been propping up Dion as if he was a legitimate candidate.
  2. They're supposed to selectively block your IP based on your time zone. But if you know what you're doing, there's not much they can do.
  3. That you might need a transplant?
  4. Not an official party. Not a single elected member, EVER. I don't think the Bloc is legitimate either, but for very different reasons.
  5. Dion knew exactly what the question was, he just didn't have an answer. The restarts were just a stall tactic in hopes that he could think of something.
  6. And yet, they're highly unlikely to elect even one single member.
  7. Even this election makes me thankful. Thankful that we live in a country where we have the ability to make such choices as so many do not. But also thankful that no matter what side of political spectrum you're on, even your least favorite option is still a pretty darn good one compared to just about any other country on earth.
  8. The Cadman allegation is nowhere close to being proven, and fixed elections very specifically applies to majority governments only. If you hate Harper so much, you should be HAPPY that he values your concern so much that he gave you a chance to replace him. Besides, neither of those things take money directly out of my pocket for the express purpose of supporting a fictitious doomsday cult. I can overlook a lot of things I might not approve of if the real basics like taking less of my money and paying the bills are in order.
  9. Mostly because he's the best person for the job, whether anyone realizes it or not. Keep in mind though, that an even higher percentage does not want any one of the other guys.
  10. It will exist, but either as a low rent protest vote like some of the REALLY fringe parties (like marxist-leninist, libertarian, etc), or it will just become a think-tank/lobby group (like Frontier Centre, Cdn taxpayers Federation, etc).
  11. No kidding. I counted at least 6 complete fabrications, and at least as many extreme spins. Was this a press release written for them by the Liberal Party?
  12. Winnipeg Free Press says Harper! http://winnipegfreepress.com/editorial/sto...p-4880617c.html I'm actually quite surprised at this one. The Free Press is a very left wing paper, their content is usually heavily slanted towards NDP support.
  13. I've gotten a few of those as well, but that's not what I'm talking about.
  14. I was wondering how often these polls are really done. I didn't get asked once in the last election, but I got at least a dozen such calls between then and the start of this campaign, and I've done four of them during this campaign (two internet, two telephone). I've heard people say that these things are not as random as they'd have you believe, that they tend to call and recall the same people that they find are "good at being polled", whatever that means. Given that I also do a BBM book almost every year, and I know plenty of people who've never been asked, I'm beginning to wonder if this is true.
  15. Saturday's Harris/Decima shows CPC support widening: Conservative 35% Liberal 25% NDP 18% Green Party 11% BQ 9%. Gaining Ground in Ontario as well: Conservative 35% Liberal 32% NDP 22% Green Party 11% Data (pdf): http://www.harrisdecima.com/en/downloads/p...ses/101108E.pdf Looks Like Nik Nanos is the only one who thinks the Liberals are on the come back right now. Either something is really off with his numbers, or NOBODY knows what their doing when it comes to polling. Actually, from the polls I have done this year (four of them so far), I tend to think the latter is indeed the case.
  16. You don't see western separation parties taking over the agenda of the entire country. Having a dissenting opinion is one thing. Even the protest vote for the Bloc the first couple of times was fine, but eventually you need to grow up. The west had their protest vote too with Reform, but they very quickly realized that would not amount to anything more. Because they were intelligent, they realized that being part of the process was better than being just outside of it and/or getting in the way of it. Bloc supporters need to grow up.
  17. I love the whole country too. I don't have anything specifically against Quebec itself either. My wife and I have spent plenty of time there, and even talked about moving there because we liked it so much. I'm just tired of insecure selfish Quebeckers who clearly do NOT love the whole country.
  18. You need to get yourself better informed on how international banking works. OUR banks are solid. They are the best in the world, period. Nobody who is not an idiot is claiming otherwise. The problem is, the banks all over the world are going under. Those banks are getting bailed out. The are receiving vast injections of cash, much of it without strings attached, to prevent them from shutting their doors permanently. These guys just don't have the liquidity to engage in transactions with other banks. Banks all over the world, including ours, routinely buy and sell assets including mortgages. Mortgages that accrue interest pay dividends just like bonds do, so they are easily traded. Problem is, these international banks don't have the liquidity to buy these assets, so as much as the banks here are not in any danger of losing what they have, they are hamstrung in their ability to use that asset trading to provide new capital for new loans. That very much can pose a problem for the public in the future if it continues, because people won't be able to get new mortgages, and businesses won't be able to get new loans. Allowed to happen, those things could very easily cause serious damage to our economy, job losses and the like. So, what CMHC has done, is buy some of these assets. Good assets that are paying interest, and will make a profit for the government. Assets that are ALREADY insured by CMHC, meaning the risk to the taxpayer is the same either way. This gives the banks cash on hand to lend out without giving them any free money, or causing any strain on their ability to operate. There's no spin, and no flip flop. This is the same cautious, measured approach that the Conservatives have been taking all along to prevent problems before they happen instead of scrambling to react to them the way the opposition leaders and the rest of the word have been. Even if you want to go ahead and spin it the left wing way, and CALL it a bailout, realize that it would be the everyday Canadian they are bailing out here, not the banks. This makes sure that the banks are able to do things that are in your best interest too, and not just their own.
  19. The misunderstandings have been at least as bad if not worse through the whole campaign. His interviews and press conferences have certainly implied that the Carbon Tax might not be implemented if it gets in the way of other objectives or turns out to not be feasible. Turns out, even if it looks like that's what he was saying, it's not what he meant. Today he said Carbon Tax no matter what, even if it means not doing anything else he has been promising. Then again, perhaps he misspoke today as well. He also appeared to have announced that he will double the Conservatives $100 child care allowance early in the campaign. Problem is, the very next day he told us we misunderstood, and that's not what he meant. How the hell can anyone who is supporting him right now be sure that the reasons that they support him are what he really means? You can't. And foreign leaders won't be able to either. It would cause a very serious problem. People would walk away from meetings thinking they had come to an agreement, only to see Dion on the news that night telling everyone that they made no progress.
  20. Jack and Dion were CREATING fears, not calming them.
  21. Our banks are the strongest in the world. They don't need a bailout, and there isn't one.
  22. Globe and Mail's was definitely an outright endorsement. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...NStory/politics
  23. The strawman scary guy that the Liberals pretended to be running against sure didn't.
  24. This is a typical FTW attitude of Quebec. The Fortier appointment was a good thing. It gave them a cabinet minister. Instead they tried to point to it as a scandal. If they win this time around, I think the Conservatives should say "screw you". You want people in cabinet, ELECT them. You want to keep playing this childish game with the protest vote that can't ever get anything for you, go ahead. Now go away so the grown ups can govern the country.
  25. I think for the next little while we will see a lot of this too. People unfamiliar with how the market works will continue to panic as they see wild swings, while people who do understand it will contiinue to make daily in and out gains from those people's ignorance. It's pretty easy to make 5-10% a day if you pretty much know in advance that things will fall and recover every day. That's not a game I want to play. I just want to buy in to a couple of stocks that are obviously worth significantly more than they are trading for right now, and wait. People who complain about this seem to think that it has to be millions or nothing. Do they take the same approach to wages? You work, you earn a little so that you can earn a little more, etc. Same rationale applies. You invest a little, make a little more, invest a little more. There's no reason for anyone NOT to put a few hundred in to make a few hundred more if that as much as you can afford. It all adds up in the end.
