Canada has a petro-dollar. Oil prices are increasing, the US dollar is dropping again, the Canadian dollar is on it's way back up, more people are investing in Canada, Canadian markets are on their way up. This is a very, very good sign. When gas prices were at their highest, we also had the strongest economy we'd ever had. As much as we loathe to pay higher gas prices, we should most definitely be hoping for them, as they are a sure-fire sign of our economic recovery.

It did not turn out not to be true. The finance department DID leak info, and people went to jail over it. There was not enough evidence against Goodale himself to charge him, but Serge Nadeau from the finance department was criminally charged. In this instance though, I think anyone who has been paying attention can see that the worst is over, and the markets have been increasing with random mini-spikes for a few months already. I doubt there is a connection to Flaherty's announcement. Still, there COULD be career civil servants in that department who are making under the table deals regardless of who is in power. Could even be the same people from under Goodale's tenure that the RCMP just never had enough evidence against.

Absolutely. Context is everything. His NCC comments were in reference to the damage that the Liberals have done to this country over the past 40 some years. Now, instead of complaining about it, he's doing something about it. The Alberta firewall was a necessary and valid sentiment at the time, that led to the rise of the Reform party, and the Conservatives to the government. It was commentary, then action. Clear, and consistent.
-
What WAS he promised? Nothing. They just wanted somebody stronger than Stockwell Day to run. Besides, what COUNTRY is the NCC located in? If Harper did go back to his old job, he'd still be in Canada, and still be involved in the process of influencing Canadian public policy.

Who does Canada Trust Most? - Reader's Digest
Bryan replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I've been starting to wonder the same thing. Look at Dobbin's posts in the credit card thread. Smart, insightful, balanced, and rational. Compare that to what's in this thread. Sure doesn't look like the work of the same person to me. -

Coming from the guy who acts like he's 12 at the best of times. Classic. -
Hey, take it easy on Radsickle. He makes me laugh. Harper's approval ratings have always been better than every other leader of every other party, higher than the Conservative Party of Canada itself. Check out Nanos polling numbers: Harper Leads Ignatieff by 27 points. Notice that Harper's leads in every category have actually INCREASED since Ignatieff replaced Dion.

Misleading how? Every point in it is a sourced fact. Most of it is Iggy's own words.

Discrimination is a part of life. legislating against it, and having commissions fight it, is artificial and solves nothing. All hiring is discriminatory by its very nature, as is the selection process for almost anything. If an employer doesn't like you, he's not likely to hire you. Why he doesn't like you is completely irrelevant. It's perfectly legitimate for a Chinese owned and operated business that caters primarily to Chinese customers to openly decide to hire only Chinese employees. It's perfectly legitimate for a faith based organization to openly decide to only hire like minded individuals. Doing otherwise would be counter to their reason for existing. Forcing them to play this game of finding some other reason to decide who they choose is a farce.

Tories look to scheduling tactics to avoid election
Bryan replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Wait... So now the Liberals admit they DO intend to trigger another election right away no matter what? They really need to get their stories straight. -
Absolutely capital punishment should be reinstated. Of course it deters crime: by eliminating repeat offenders.

I don't think this is really news. Even Nik Nanos' last poll while showing the Liberals edging ahead of the Conservatives, also showed Harper himself with a 27 point lead over Ignatieff with respect to trust, competence, and vision for Canada. ( link ) That's actually an increase in Harper support since february. We saw this during the last two election cycles as well, that Harper's personal approval ranking are consistently not only higher than all of his opponents, but also higher than the CPC itself. -
Parliament seems to have trouble respecting the will of the people, and the authority of the elected government. If they want to play games instead of letting the government govern, it will be their loss, AGAIN.
-
Ignatieff is the one who is threatening to trigger an election if he doesn't get his way on EI reform. With that threat on the table, it most certainly IS time to define your opponent before he has a chance to do so. The ads have been ready to run for a long time, they are in no way taking away from the business of running the country, a job he's been doing remarkably well. The Liberals invented dirty campaign tactics. These ads are tame compared to some of the crap the Liberals have done in the past.

A chiropractor is not a doctor, no matter what party he/she belongs to. -

Ignorance, is anyone thinking a chiro is a doctor. -

If I ever meet him, and he tries to refer to himself as "doctor" Lunney in my presence, I certainly would. -
Harper's chief of staff causing tensions in Tory circles
Bryan replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The ones I listed definitely are. Not many journalists even try to be unbiased anymore. Most of them are out to promote their agendas these days. And far too many of them just make stuff up. The only national media guys that come to mind as at least trying to be neutral are Don Newman and Steve Paikin. LOL! NO!! Fox is a cartoon! It's the same thing to the opposite extreme. -
Harper's chief of staff causing tensions in Tory circles

Not all, but most. G&M, TorStar, CBC, CTV do little other than regurgitate supplied Liberal talking points. Even the National Post has Don Martin as their token Liberal shill. The writer of this particular article, Jennifer Ditchburn, has a history of writing inflammatory anti-CPC op-ed pieces with unnamed sources as her "evidence". -

Exactly. Not taught at any real medical college. Not a real doctor. Gene Simmons calls himself Dr. Love, does that make it so too? -

Sounds like you and Liberal supporters are the ones with wishful thinking. When Conservatives are unhappy, they say it. Publicly. Remember what happened to Stockwell Day? What about Bill Casey? When Liberal sycophants use unnamed sources it means that they are lying. -

Sure chiropractors are doctors, in the same sense that witch-doctors are doctors. The Rug Doctor is a doctor too then. -

"unidentified insiders" is Liberal code-speak for "we are making this crap up".
