  1. I've been using Firefox for awhile now. It's terrific.
  2. Well, I'll say the following things: 1. Section 3 of the marriage act might be changed on the basis of Klein's relationship with the aboriginals. Alberta has produced an incredible elite of twospirited people. This in no way justifies Section 3. 2. I'll accept the withdrawl of the word "transplant" and I'll leave it at that. The attitude is actually quite common though. I usually have to correct the Fraser Institute peeps on that quite often. 3. My favourite club in Calgary is by far Mynt. The owner doesn't have a policy of discrimination like at the Penny Lane establishments. It's really helpful because my friends are multi-ethnic. It's always a great time.
  3. Klein's AISH policy is awful. I hear tons of Cons complain daily about Klein. The difference between the Cons I deal with on a daily basis and the Cons on these boards is the cons I know in real life are educated.
  4. As a true small 'l' liberal, I can honestly say that those on the far left are not hypocrites. Why? They admit they want intrusive government. A right wing Conservative says that they don't want government in THEIR lives, but want government in the lives of anybody who they hate the momment, be it Jews, Muslims or Homosexuals. The difference between the two is subtle, but both camps share a lot in common.
  5. They want to vote for Bush and against socialized medicine, but they want socialized drugs. Screw'em. Freeze them out.
  6. They're still UnCanadian values -- and we need to be on guard from Red State encroachment. They're trying to get us through our own political parties, especially through the Cons.
  7. Those are your beliefs. You live by them, since they're YOURS. That said, your beliefs are not the basis of public policy.
  8. What's wrong with providing food that urban people want to eat? Do you have something against the free market August?
  9. I believe in equal opportunity for everybody. That was something that made Canada great. We need to take our country back and restore equal opportunity. I'm not advocating equal income, just the equal chance. Canada is a country where if you work hard, you can make it anywhere, regardless of where you start off. If you disagree with that value, you're not a Canadian, and I seriously want you out of this country before you damage it anymore. If that sounds harsh and intolerant, it is, now scoot!
  10. The good news is that the election made Canadians realize how lucky we are to have a country like Canada. I think it also brings our CONservative party sharper into contrast with Canadian values. The US election result gives the Liberals a huge boost. CONservative 'moral' values? UnCanadian.
  11. LMAO "Transplants" LMAO thank you for the quote, it truly is golden and shows just how much of a SOB 'native' Calgarians are. Terrific attitude. Thank you.
  12. What's there to be jealous about, lol~ I live in Calgary. I've lived in Calgary for over a decade. I lived in Calgary when Oil was in a slump. (That's how hardcore I am, lol). What's interesting is that you cite the dismal performance of our teams here in Calgary, and point the fact that the teams have survived. Just like ATP, they've just barely survived. This city has problems. Every city has problems. The difference is that other cities acknowledge their problems. In Calgary, there's only denial, accompanied by a 'ra ra'. Don't make excuses. Acknowledge the problem. Where's that Can-Do attitude?
  13. I live in one of the aforementioned communities. I actually know my neighbors and I have a history of civic action. The vast majority of Calgarians (some 800,000) don't. They live in their single detached home somewhere in the sprawl. They'll move out there, knowing that the traffic will be bad when they move there, but that doesn't keep them from bitching constantly about it. They keep to themselves. Many houses come with 10 foot high fences in the backyards now. Most new communities don't have community associations. They got off at 4:30pm, get home at around 5:00...they'll still bitch about the traffic even though they covered 10 clicks in under 25 minutes. They stay home. They don't go to any sports games (Flames attendance: 15k on average) or to football games (8-12k) or the theatre (ATP nearly folds every year) or anything else for that matter. They stay home and watch King of the Hill on Global. There are two Calgary's. There are the good civic citizens who are an active part of the cityscape. They put in 40+ hours a week at their jobs, many doing well over 50 hours. Many have more than one child, and they're not your suburban-lets-go-urinate-on-the-homeless variety either. (And believe me, those are some of the values some of these people are teaching their kids.) Then there is the sterile sprawl that surrounds the real city. It's antiseptic, a maze of pink stucko and red SUV's. It's no wonder there are so many hydroponic marijuana houses there -- nobody knows anybody else. That's my view. I think it's funny those from the outer city, in my experience, are the first to denounce anybody who speaks the truth about the city. "Oh it's great we got Stampede and a great work ethic...."....bull.
  14. If you leave Canada to work in the US for more money and lower taxes, don't be comming back to Canada when you get old. It's bad enough that your taking your education and running, but then to expect everybody to pick up the tab for you when you get back is downright selfish. If you're going to leave, leave your citizenship along with it.
  15. People leave Canada for the US because they're selfish. If they don't like our values, then good, leave. That's the wonderful thing about Canada: if you don't like Canadian values, you have the freedom to leave.
  16. So: the outflow of Canadians to the US is much higher than the inflow of Americans to Canada. To quote Mike Myers: Boo-Frickety-Hoo. If a Canadian is moving the United States, I bet it's motivated by greed. To them, I say, good luck. Don't come back when you get old and expect Canadian society to take care of you. Don't let the screen door hit you on the way out. The 5000 americans that Canada gets are probably terrific liberal. So on the whole, that's a net gain of liberals to Canada. Which is the way it should be.
  17. Stamps: SOME people have a hard work ethic. OTHERS don't. Who are some of these others? The oil people downtown who take 3 hour lunch hours to 'network', and justify as 'networking'. It's BS. Art shows, plays, etc, those are the traditional places to build social connections: they happen outside of the 8-6 bracket. Not here in Calgary though. They get to work at 8:30 Monday, leave for lunch at 11, get back at 2, leave at 4:30 (after all -- they've earned it) Monday through Thursday. They take Friday off. After all, they've earned it. I'm not talking about EVERYBODY. I think I'm just refering to the Haskayne set -- if you know what I mean. But hardcore: I came to this city as an businessman, I'll leave as one. It's a wicked place to do business, so long as you have the right people with the right attitude. It's not as bad as Montreal or Toronto, but it sure as hell isn't Newfoundland or Nova Scotia when it comes to work ethic. Anyway: Calgary has it's downsides. I just find it sad that some people feel as though they have to lie about their city to strangers....(Calgarians do have a tendency of patting themselves on the back when it isn't totally deserved)
  18. "Canadian Republican" is an oxymoron. So, the United States is outperforming Canada? Who cares? Our social policies create deadweight loss. Equal healthcare, a canadian value: that creates a deadweight loss. Equal opportunity through education, (low) tuition...that creates a deadweight loss. EI? CPP? You wanna believe those cause deadweight losses. The economic optimum is: surprise surprise: Dickens. If we wanted Dickens, we would all move to the United States. Alas, since we have made choices based on Canadian values, we have chosen deadweight loss. Nobody asked you to come Canada. If you don't like our values, leave.
  19. First I'll address Parish. I find it absolutely hillarious that the Cons are complaining about 'free speech'. Again, it's all about the Cons being their hypocritical selves as usual. You can bash the queers, but heaven forbid you bash the Americans. I'm not going to address the specific concerns of Cons until they can get consistent on a single point, at least once. I won't hold my breath. -------------- Second: the wave of moderate and dare I say, liberal Americans northward has already begun. I know, personally, 3 Americans who are moving up from the southern states up to Calgary -- and this was before the election. Why? In their words "I can't take it anymore". Since the election, I know of 2 more who are comming up. They're sick and tired of being sick and tired. They don't like being made to be feel afraid all the time. They really hate having religion being shoved at them. They don't like pollution that much. They've had enough of the racial hatred too. All of this brings me to my third point: ----------- Third: the election made me realize how luck we are to be in Canada: free. The thought occured to me that it might be a good idea to firewall a few Canadian values against Republicanism and moreover, against the Conservatives in this country who would do harm to Canadian values. We need to realize that Harper and his unnaturalized American colleagues pose a direct threat to Canadian values: equal opportunity, equal healthcare, and security of the person, and freedom from fear. I'm so happy we have a Liberal government in power. It's sad that it took a Bush victory to make me realize just how 'lucky' we are, but there it is. We're lucky. That's all I gotta say.
  20. One thing I can't stand is when a member of the ruling elite tries to portray their childhood as being a 'poor' one. Martin is a good example. He did make the attempt. He didn't convince anybody though. Donald Trump is another classic one. Bush takes the cake. At least Kerry admits he's Patrician. That said, I have no problem with a sliver spooner serving the country from time to time, so long as it isn't all the time. I reckon since they make up 3 percent of the population, they should get 3 years to govern per century. Now, since Trudeau and a few others have served, roughtly, 60 years in the past century (?) rough guess...well then, you guys have 3 years, so that leaves 57 years they owe us, so I reckon that Justin Trudeau can run in say, 1900 years? Sounds fair to me. Nah. Just kidding. To get back to the topic: Most people who voted liberal, held their nose and voted that way. lol. What does that say about the quality of the Alliance party? Anyway. I can't say any more.... They held their nose. That's all I'm saying.
  21. Big Blue Machine is still smarting from the decline of the Orangemen. Your kind is going extinct Big Blue Machine. Good ridance.
  22. First off: if there's abuse in the system, that needs to be addressed, ASAP. Second off: I know for a fact that bureacrats who work the system have been 'abusing' it of sorts, telling people that they shouldn't be going to university, instead just taking AISH and being happy. (True story, repeated independently in 5 seperate interviews I did.) Third off: Klein, seriously, as if eugenics fiasco wasn't enough, you had to do this. What's really sick: so many Albertans agree with him about the disabled. And the worse part: The Alberta government refuses to even help those who are disabled: to buy the equipment they'd need to go to work. Many of those who are on AISH, want off of it. These people...so ignorant. It doesn't surprise me though. Just wait till the boomers start getting disabled because of age. Of course, they won't learn even then.
  23. First off -- women dont' have penis', so I don't see how half of the homosexual population is 'sick', based on the premise that feces and penis' don't mix. Moreover, let's just clear up some misunderstandings about anal sex here for a second. First off: heterosexual people do it often. It's their choice. It's none of your business. Second off: homosexuals don't do it as often as you think. Anal sex only happens about 50% of the time. In fact, there is much less penetration going on in the homosexual world than in the hetero world. How does sex happen? Mutual JO and blow jobs, of course. It's much more in line with the culture in fact. Third off: 'shit' or 'feces' is rarely involved -- if it's done properly. Get it? In fact, I suspect, that feces is much more of a problem in the hetero sphere than anywhere else. ---------- The aspect of sex is secondary to the debate, IMO. From a policy point of view, it makes much more sense to have it so that those who are gay to be who they are from the get go. They'll be more sucessful, less likely to abuse drugs, alcohol, cigs, and commit suicide, and moreover, there will be fewer broken families. If you're worried that homosexuals are 'recruiting'...get over yourself. You can't force a heterosexual to go down on somebody of their gender no more than you can get a homosexual to go bi. It just doesn't work. Homosexuals don't want, nor need, the chubby ass, ill-adjusted ghetto-trash that most homophobes are producing.
  24. If the Catholic Church wants to give up its charitable status and become a political organization, it's more than welcome. Bishop Henry better be ready to take what he dishes though. I have quite a few choice words waiting, should he decide to do the right thing and give up his priveldged tax status.
