Do you mean Brousseau? Are you aware that she has never even visited the riding she won? Never even been there!

Legal Possession of marijuana
ba1614 replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Thank you, I was sure it was bogus. First political forum I've been on where you didn't need to back up your claims. -
Legal Possession of marijuana

That's what I thought. EDIT: Specifically the 50% of people in jail are there for marijuana. -

I fully support the legalization of the herb, but do you have a link to support these stats? -
oops, beat me to it.

A 'Change in PM' and 'A Change in Government'
ba1614 replied to expat voter's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm not happy with everything the Conservatives have done, but it's a "lesser of available evils" thing for me. I hear the other candidates talk and I have this urge to grab my wallet. -
High Ranking Canadian Military Man.
ba1614 replied to Oleg Bach's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Me too, Jessica Lloyd lived about 15kms down the road I live on. It's so sad, we go through life hearing about this stuff but it's never anyone we know, or near us. We are in the sticks out here and this stuff just doesn't happen. This is not about politics. This is about a very sick individual who obviously fooled many many people. It illustrates the old saying that "you just never know" about as well could be. This is also the type of situation that causes me to struggle so much with the capital punishment issue. -
Your opinion on the War on Drugs
ba1614 replied to maple_leafs182's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
None of those links support the assertion that the prisons are "filled with law abiding citizens whose crimes consist merely of possessing illegal narcotics for personal use", in America, (stats useless when discussing Canada), let alone Canada. The majority of people involved in importing/exporting, manufacturing, and distribution of illegal narcotics are in fact criminals for the most part, and they are the ones locked up under the "Drugs" classification, not the average guy who consumes some. -
Your opinion on the War on Drugs
ba1614 replied to maple_leafs182's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I am pro-legalization, or at the very least, decriminalize it. BUT, that is simply not true. If you can produce facts to support that claim I may change my mind, but I have never seen the evidence, nor has anyone been able to produce evidence to back up such a claim. -
Will Al Gore Melt? (Cowardice in Denmark)
ba1614 replied to jbg's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Speaking of cowardice, Denmark, and Al Gore. Gore cancels climate conference event -
Good posts on this subject Gabriel. Sums up very well the way I, and almost every person that I've discussed this criminal with.

Ignatieff drops chief of staff, hires Peter Donolo
ba1614 replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Exactly. It's frustrating as hell that they just don't seem to get it. I'd argue they have gotten worse under Ignatieff, and I honestly thought they couldn't get more pathetic than they were under Dion. -
What do you propose, Anarchy?

Tories to crack down on parole for non-violent offenders
ba1614 replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think we are long overdue for a few new prisons anyway. Saying "we can't afford it" is an awful lame excuse not to punish criminals. "White collar crime" needs to be dealt with more severely. While maybe non-violent, they can and have destroyed lives. There is no deterrent right now for someone with low morals to take a chance on ripping some innocent people off of their savings. -
I agree, at least it has worked where I am. In the rural area I'm in we had real problem with b&e's, and drinking/driving on the back roads. For as long as I remember we could go a few weeks without seeing a cruiser out here. They've hired a bunch and now there's not many days go by that we don't see at least one. Consequently the b&e's are almost non existent now and the impaired driving is also way down with the random spot checks they setup occasionally.

Wonder what Dion is thinking right about now?

Are you free in Canada? All I'd say is that if you don't think you are "free" in Canada, then you have never been truly without freedom.
-
It's also funny the amount of press the Ontario Liberals have gotten over funneling cabinet ministers pay through hospitals to skirt government pay guidelines, getting paid more than twice the rate set out in the guidelines.

I really don't know what to say, other than it's a sad state of affairs when a deal is made with a CRIMINAL to testify against the people who apprehended him.

Conservative Party Logo on Government cheque
ba1614 replied to madmax's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yes, that is what I would consider "going off the rails". -
HAHA, that's funny, I didn't know it was a fake when it made it's round, thanks. I still agree with speech writer Doug Patton however.

Conservative Party Logo on Government cheque
ba1614 replied to madmax's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This logo thing is embarrassing, and doesn't reflect well on the CPC. They should be,(and have been), scolded. There should also be something agreed upon by all parties that becomes the default "cheque" for these presentations to ensure it doesn't happen again. But the way some of these people are going off the rails about it looks just as bad in the eyes of average people. It looks like nothing more than grandstanding politics that turns people off. Does anyone but hard core NDP supporters even read Mr. Topps tirades? lol, he's about as far left as they come in Canada, and that's saying something. -
As it stands now I would indeed vote for the CPC, even though I don't like most of their prison reform policy, and I really dislike the mandatory minimums for weed. But the NDP is waaaay to far left on social policy for me to consider, and the LPC under Iggy is still the same ole LPC I quit voting for a couple elections ago. They're still as pathetic today as they were 5yrs ago. I just can't see sacrificing my social policy beliefs so I can smoke a joint on the sidewalk. Mandatory minimums aren't going to do anything to the "average" guy that might have a few plants for personal use, or smokes dubes at their residence. Voting CPC is currently the lesser of the available evils, IMO.
