  1. Where did you get this statistic from? I don't know a single Canadian who relies on wireless connection as their main internet source. and wired connection will always have faster download/upload speed and larger bandwidth capacity.
  2. We owe them exactly nothing.
  3. 1763 eh? Royal eh? So what? That means about shit all in 2011? And I don't know how you can get more corrupt than the native system, chiefs earning 6 figures while people on their reserves live in squalor.
  4. If I took an orange from a tree and the tree instantly regrew that orange I would expect them for free... I'd pay for however much is cost to maintain that tree but I certainly wouldn't pay per orange. Thats pretty much exactly analogous to how the internet works. And yes, talking about an issue and technology he knows nothing about makes him a moronic tool.
  5. I'd be willing to pay 10 cents per gig at a maxium, and even that is a huge markup over its actual cost. (maybe half a cent per gig). I'd love to see the feds mandate a maxium markup, just to watch these ISPs try and argue that the law would be unfair. PS: That half cent cost per gig is already covered in your net subscription fee
  6. Yes, the person who downloaded that amount and paid their internet bill.
  7. Coyne is a moron spouting out about technology he doesn't understand. Someone needs to point out to Coyne that bandwidth isn't a finite resource.
  8. It also use to be that they got shipped off to residential schools. Just because something is doesn't mean it should stay as it is.
  9. Nay, their more enviromentally costly and any energy savings are offput by increased heating bills.
  10. you've said it yourself, you can only count of private enterprise to do one thing, earn profit. Unless Net Neutrality is mandated it will never happen, plain and simple. Why?, because a neutral net is not in the interest of anyone who earns money off selling access to the net.
  11. Every one of those companies has had packet shaping technology for years. (Packet shaping technology degrades the speed at which you can download certain materials, what the materials are is up to the isp).
  12. He lost me around the time he started rambling about how these e-protesters are like the muslim brotherhood.
  13. I see, beside the billions of dollars in bailouts, it comes out of their own pockets. Really? Canada has one of the slowest and most expensive internet systems in the world and Canadas falling behind the curve in every respect when it comes to the e-world. Seems to me your private buisnesses have failed. Seems ~400K people are displeased with this issue, and have thus far managed to attract the attention of every single major politcal party. They've even gotten the anti-consumer Cons to speak out against UBB. Who is we? You live in the states, a country with a far better internet infastructure. How about you stop talking out your ass.
  14. Private corperations don't always turn a profit every quater either. The public purse if finite. If the governments actions are to the detriment of Canadians said government will likely be removed from power by an election. You absolute free market lot.
  15. Maybe its like that in the states (I doubt it), but up here in Canada we enjoy numrous rights provided by other people. Feel free to read the charter some time.
  16. Well you're a rather dense one. If a crown crop is kicking money back into the tax system, aka making profit, how is it that 'your' tax dollers are being used? Seems 'your' taxes will be lower. And I don't see any real unfair advantage a crown corp has over a private. Shouldn't theprivate businesses adapt and out compete the lazy and bloated government? I mean that is what you lot believe isn't it?
  17. Most Canadians see Healthcare as a right not a business. No one would be forcing you to use or pay for a public system run by a crown corp. Saskaschewan for instance has Sasktel, a crown telecom corp, yet there are still numerous other private ISPs in sask providing the same services. and as previously mentioned sasktel kicks money back into the tax system, to the toon of about 100 million dollars. You're going to have to do better than 'Oh no them feds are bad'
  18. ? I don't see the government slowing down/blocking/or limiting bandwidth of its competitors... and not trusting private enterprise to be the sole provider of an essential service is a very good reason to have a government option
  19. According to the lastest from Tony Clement via twitter: RosieBarton: Is it true you will overturn internet decision if crtc does not back down? Clement: True. CRTC must go back to drawing board http://twitter.com/tonyclement_MP Good news so far, hopefully it keeps coming. The petition is at about 378 000 so far, if you're against this keep enouraging people to sign it.
  20. Yep,There has never been a more powerful tool to spread information or organize citizens, the idea that the sole gatekeepers to this network should be private corporations is ludicrous. Whats even more ludicrous is that in Canada access is controlled by what amounts to a monopoly.
  21. They should have the same rights as any other Canadian. a shocking idea, I known.
  22. Would you be willing to chip in the same substantial public funding that the current network owners received to build their networks? The smaller isps are allowed access because of that funding. Thats included in that cost, my mistake for not mentioning it. You have to understand these networks are capable of the transfer of hundreds of thousands of gigabytes per day. Not to mention any and all costs incured by the company are alreayd covered by the access fee everyone pays. Run it as a crown corp. And Government telecomunication corps can do just fine, in fact Sasktel actually kicks back into the tax system. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SaskTel
