Conservative MP James Bezan video
Molly replied to DrGreenthumb's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
And I call BS on you, too. -
I would argue against most of those with varying degrees of vehemence... but almost ANY part of it would do more to prevent another Marc Lepine than the registry does.

I think you are completely full of it. -
You know something? If you consider reading the Sun to be an edifying activity, rather than the fluffiest of light entertainment, then the real joke is how very well the shoe fits!

Unheralded "Eco-Tax" hits Ontario shoppers
Molly replied to Argus's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Add an extra surcharge for distance goods must travel, and I'm with you on that one entirely. -
I do.... but dragging the conversation away from rants about gay sex is a task beyond us all.

Maybe not, but they will be. They'll be damned by both sides, no matter which way any individuals vote. What's even worse is that there'll be a ton of behind the scenes arm-twisting, much of which will be based on 'good of the party' arguments (as opposed to 'what your constituents want'), AND, whipped or not, the ones who dare vote to end the registry- even if good sense and their constituents demand it- will pay a price for it within the party.

In any world where reason holds sway, he never was. http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/fullcomment/archive/2009/11/06/chris-selley-s-full-pundit-but-but-marc-lepine.aspx It is true, of course, that the long gun registry followed Marc Lepine’s rampage at the École Polytechnique — but it’s never been clear that this was a logical response, so it’s not enough to just invoke the event and rest one’s case,

Tories Promise New Law - Human Trafficking
Molly replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Prolly should be pointed out that the boat people aren't traffickers of humans. They are the humans being trafficked.... -
Oh, really?

.... What is this 'special interest groups' stuff actually supposed to mean? People use the words, but seem to intend them to mean 'everyone who disagrees with me on any subject'. How else should we define the term? Perhaps the 'special interest groups' are actually the ones who want to end the long-gun registry and the long-form census. That would teach us that special interest groups are devoted to ideology instead of information, and tells us how frightened some people are of informed, pragmatic governance.

Tories Promise New Law - Human Trafficking
Molly replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Sarkozy is in deep doo with his electorate, and in a feeble, transparent attempt to change the subject, has chosen to take his troubles out on those awful, terrible Rom. The strategy is painfully familiar. Hazeleyes, well said. -

(Sarkozy/ Rom?) -
I don't believe this. Within my lifetime, it is certainly completely false. Has it ever been true?

LOL If you were a politician, you would just have rendered yourself unelectable! People do take things seriously, and will insist that black is white as well. I've no great desire to offend anyone, and I figure that almost any sentence that has the word 'elites' in it is hogwash, but facts are facts. In this country, at this time, to have no post-secondary certification is to be absolutely minimally educated- aka 'uneducated'. It is the meaning of the word, not pholosophical conjecture. Likewise, poll after poll after poll has established that voting CPC and spending years in school are inversely linked, so that's pretty firmly established, too. The way it was said was snotty, but the factual basis of it is not really up for debate.

Should provinces pay for smoking aids?
Molly replied to Topaz's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Methods and support groups? Helping? Riiiiight. Chantix costs a little over $30/week for about a dozen weeks, and has a huge success rate. Handing it out gratis would pay for itself in a matter of a few months at most. The money spent demonizing smokers could easily provide the concrete means for very, very many to actually quit-- but folks get wa-ay too much thrill out of holier-than-thou posturing for that to ever happen. -
Um... Maybe you should explain to us what 'uneducated' does actually mean.
-
Well yeah... but if I'm missing that sort of information, then I have to be mighty careful about pointing that finger.
-
A-hahhh! Thank-you very much, Smallc. Not only am I enlightened by that, but the info makes me feel a little better about the world in general and Ms. Guergis in particular.
-
Ms. Guergis is identifying herself as Hon. Helena Guergis P.C., M.P., M.B.A. Could P.C. stand for anything other than the name of that party that dissolved... 7 ? years ago, the last leader of which was Peter MacKay? Anyone have any explanation for this: or is it as cheezy and disengenuous as it looks?

Now there's a perfect example of why one should be careful with the use of sarcasm, because it is so often so easy to mistake for sincere comment. Let's see... Harper has criticized aspects and safeguards to universal access to healthcare, even while claiming it is safe under his stewardship; he has pandered to the social neanderthals and religious nuts by hosting a vote on the simple privelege of marriage, and he's endorsed and tolerated the rabid anti-abortion Bruinooge, and used international aid programming to float anti-abortion/anti-birth control trial balloons... He has selected anti-intellectuals for his cabinet, to the point even of putting a creationist in charge of science research funding. Consequently, we have only the grade 4 on Baffin Island crack to accurately identify your intent.

About bloody time that the Conservatives figured out that the hacks and back benches should be/do more than bobbleheads. Given the Conservative record of bending over backwards to avoid accepting such input, what I want to know is whether this will result in income enhancement for the yes-man brigade.

How about this: I'm a mother. Beyond any shadow of a doubt, 15 years of age is 'a child'. If you know any 15-year-olds that you figure are responsible adults, I respectfully suggest that you just don't know them very darned well.

Further clarification: Schedule IV is steroids, and barbiturates-- mild hypnotics, muscle relaxants, sleeping pills...Valium, khat... Schedule V is a nasal decongenstant. Schedule II is marijuana and it's derivatives and schedule VII specifies 3 Kg..... So the regulations new 'serious offenses' are: selling, importing, exporting or producing steroids, mild hypnotics and nasal decongestants; and trafficking in (pot or hash) in an amount (less than 3 kg.) Dr. Greenthumb? What say ye?
