NDP to form offical opposition.
gordiecanuk replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't know about that...it was after all a supposedly left wing party that embraced fiscal conservatism and finally brought this country's finances back into balance and started paying off the national debt. -
Are women in danger of losing their abortion rights?
gordiecanuk replied to Harry's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Harper won't touch this debate, unless he gets a majority...then the many Trosts of the CPC will push hard to have abortion back in the criminal code. -

You're confusing Iggy with Stockwell Day and other prominent Conservatives. -

With Harper representing the right the words reasonable and balance are no longer part of the political lexicon. -
What do you think of Ad about Ignatieff's family?
gordiecanuk replied to gordiecanuk's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Sorry man, you lost me. So you want to discuss Robinson and Chretien's son instead of Harper? Can't say I blame you but this is a politics foruum. -
Ignatieff wants to raise taxes by $6B this year alone!
gordiecanuk replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Tax and spending beats borrowing and spending. Spending money that isn't there, to me it reeks of dishonety. Besides, with the after tax profits the banks and oil companies are recording....I don't think they need the Billions Harper wants us to give them. -

Harper is right up there with all those guys, gotta be a punch in the gut to people who believed him about being open and honest and all that other BS. -

Love the honesty and intgrety of Harper's Tories, man....can't believe Stevie had that guy Carson as his top advisor. Canada's prime minister hiring a guy to advise him who was disbarred for forging cheques and stealing $23,900 from a corporation and two individual clients he represented....great resume. Who's he gonna hire next? Cifford Olson? What kind of judgement is that???? All the broken promises and patronage and scandals on top of it...problem is, where does a boot licking conservative turn??? Maybe the Christian Heritage party if they're running in your riding. I feel your pain. -
Ex-Harper aide, escort linked to deal
gordiecanuk replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
With Harper being such a control freak, it makes you wonder about his judgement in having this guy as a top advisor given his extremely coloured history... -
So brainy people vote for lower taxes, increased spending and massive deficits??? It that's what Conservative voters consder intellignce, then you can have it. Actually, when you look at the demographics that go along with the polls, you'll find Conservative voters have the lowest levels of education....but don't worry, I'm sure your friend thinks you're smart.

If Harper and Ignatieff were aboard a crashing airplane...who would be saved? Canada!!! -

This whole marquee events funding is nothing but a boondoggle. -
Tories reject funding for Montreal gay arts festival
gordiecanuk replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think the answer is obvious...the Cons are concerned about placating their Religious Right base of support, without it they're toast. Its not like they're gonna score big with the Gay French constituency anyway. -
Grits, Tories battle for Jewish support in next election

Zionists used terrorism to win state hood for Israel, taking it from the Palestinians. Now the Palestinians are using terrorism to try and get it back. The British set the tone by caving to terrorists in the first place. -
Ignatieff's Isaiah Berlin lecture
gordiecanuk replied to gordiecanuk's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Its a tax on carbon emissions, that the markets will love because it gives them another piece of paper to trade...That's a good thing given that financial derivatives (sp?) are the only things being manufactured in North America these days. -

Harper wants to bring in cap and trade as well...europe is doing it and Obama is bringing it to the states. Right or wrong its hard to swim against that strong a current. -
Ignatieff's Isaiah Berlin lecture
gordiecanuk replied to gordiecanuk's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Ignatieff supported the leadership of Stephane Dion, that's the way politics works. But once he took over the leadership he repudiated the green shift and backed away from teh coalition. There are conservatives MPs who support Stephen Harper...but there are specific policies with which they disagree. When leadership changes, so does party direction.
