  1. I should mention, I really dislike how easily people throw around the term homophobia. I suppose it's appropriate since there are people, in this thread even, that are quite obviously afraid of homosexuality. It worries them so much that they try to use the state apparatus to try to get rid of homosexuality.

Not everyone that's intolerant is afraid of homosexuality. Sometimes it's just overt hatred. It's cold and rational contempt. There's nothing phobic about that whatsoever. It's just pure ignorance.

Ah...So if one is not interested in the Gay Pride parade,or anything involved with that event, you may not be full of hate but you are ignorant?

  2. Way I see it, the OP misses the mark. And so do those who criticize multiculturalism per se. The problem that's evolved is not due to the importation of a variety of races, it's due to the importation of large numbers of people who are poor and uneducated into the system. If the immigrants who come here are good quality welders, carpenters, electricians, pipe fitters...

But despite that I doubt the problem is as large as some people make it out to be. For most it's simple race hatred looking for a reason, nothing more.

I think you're on to something here...

I'm a tradesperson, and I can tell you that MOST (most definately not all) recent immigrants coming into my trade are barely above the level of a 1st year apprentice. That's not to say we should adjust things to allow someone like that the OPPORTUNITY to widen their skill set in any specific trade, because we should!

Having said that,I also agree eith you that alot of this is simply convenient cover for those who would like to limit immigration based on race...

  3. I should add too that even if some "Jews" may have been involved in the Opium Trade, that would be like a Christian or a Muslim or a Baha'i, etc. in a brothel: not at all living up to the standards of his professed religion.

Yes,but, (according to Lictor) Hitler was right in identifying the Jew as a subhumanoid scourge that needed to be wiped out...

And doitwell (Lictor) is trying to point this global conspiracy out!!!!

What's next Lictor, global mind control plans through experiments at the Tavistock Institute?

If only the NAZI's has won, huh?

    :blink::rolleyes::lol:

  4. This isn't about America's racist past; the U.S.'s racial problems were out there for the world to see. It's about the denial that Canadians have about Canada's racist past. Canada is thought to be - and presents itself as - so tolerant, the land that saved the runaway slaves as America treated them badly. But Canada wasn't all that; Canada didn't want the freed slaves who wanted to move to Canada, for example, and apparently some Canadians are in denial - Canadians who have no problem seeing things they way they are (or in lots of cases even worse) when it comes the U.S. The facts speak for themselves, and Canada did have a racist immigration policy - even as the U.S. was/is criticized for its racist past - and it accounts for Canada's practically non-existent Black population, as late as 1971 - after the Civil Rights Act. Blacks still only account for 2% of Canada's population.

    Who's denying it??

We had the Africville situation in Halifax...

We had segregated beaches in Toronot up to the 1940's...

Hell,we had a goofy coward burnng a cross on the lawn of an interracial couple in Halifax last year!!!

  5. Well that part I hated, but the bombs were great when nobody knew!...including myself. I had to tear down my Sosa posters in anger, and I can't wear my Sosa jersey anymore. That guy owes me some money back!

Too bad he did abuse, he could have been an annual 40 HR guy even without the roids.

I have a card of Sammy playing for the White Sox looking like he was about 170 lbs wet!!!

He was traded to The Cubs for George Bell...

  6. NDP is pro labour.

It's a shame that more workers don't vote in their own interest.

I find it very ironic when I drive down a lower-income street of condo's/townhouses/rentals and see conservative signs up. Conservatives don't serve the interests of those people. Conservatives only start to serve your interests when your wage is getting above 60k.

Alberta has it's own ironic insanity.

The Wild Rose party is pulling votes of Libertarians and Social Conservatives. Albertan social conservatives must not understand the definition of libertarian...

Nothing like chickens voting for Col. Sanders, huh?

  7. Doesn’t the King have banked Anniversary/Birthday/Father’s Day credit? This is worth more than gold, and very useful in extreme circumstances, but can only be used occasionally……The Queens adapt to Bullshit faster then the Borg……

    You would think so...

    Unfortunately "resistance is (apparently) futile"...

I think I might just get one thos things anyway and let the chips fall where they may.If the proverbial Royal Candy Store becomes closed,I can always point out that chicks dig cool cars and there are other "Candy Stores"...

  8. Yup, we dont practice Democracy and the King is a mere figurehead when the Queen brings in more of the money………Little does the Queen know, the King (with the aide of his loyal subjects) pays cash and is sneakier than Oliver North

The problem with that is that "The Queen" doesn't bring in more money...

But she has alot of shoes and a closet full of clothes...

If the Queen can have an Imelda Marcosesque collection shoes (WTF is up with the female shoe fetish,by the way?),I think it's only fair that The King be able to have some toys for himself...

  9. The reason given in the OP has nothing to do with people's moral judgements about what other people should consume.

Rather, it refers to the organized crime that flourishes due to the prohibition of drugs.

It's the same rationale that led to the end of the prohibition of alcohol.

The "war on drugs" has only increased the sophistication and damage done by organized crime, and it's suggested that the only way to defeat organized crime is to legalize drugs.

I don't think people should poison themselves slowly with drugs or alcohol, but I can't stop anyone but myself from doing so, legal or not, so my judgements about what other people 'should' do are irrelevant.

However, I think there would be less violence in our communities if drugs were legal and the role of organized crime was thus defeated.

Can you give that some serious thought, Jack?

    I think I have...

If one decriminalizes something like marijuana,by making posession a summary offence, the "criminality" is greatly reduced. That stops a little before legalization, which I don't support...

I also would not support the decriminalization of heavy narcotics like heroin or cocaine...

  10. Jack, do you drink scotch? How would you compare whiskey vs scotch???

    Occassionally I drink scotch...

    I prefer bourbon,though...

Bourbon is much sweeter than most single malt scotches. This is because bourbon must contain at least 50% corn in the mashbill...Most bourbons have well above 70% corn...The rest of the bill is made up of varying amounts of barely and rye.

Of course there are bourbons like Makers Mark which switches the rye for wheat. This tends to make the bourbon sweeter. The opposite would be Wild Turkey (particularily the 101) which has a high rye content in the mashbill and is a more "spicey" bourbon...

Scotches tend to be heavier, more malted whiskies.Depending on what side of Scotland the whiskey is distilled you can have a heavy peaty flavour (Islay whiskies) or sweeter grain whiskies (Speyside).Examples of the Islay's would be things like Talisker,Caol Ila,Laphroaig etc.The Speysides would be scotches like Glenlivet or Glenmorangie...

You can also have blended scotches like Ballantines,Johnnie Walker,Cutty Sark,Dewars,Teachers Highland Cream etc. Some of these can upwards of 50 different single malts blended to create a certain flavour profile and they tend to be cheaper but more consistent and more readily available...

  11. No need to get personal, eh old bean? If you don't care what I think, why are you asking me that question. I don't think you've thought this out clearly. Or has the alcohol addled your brain a bit... that effect may not be as temporary as you think.

Tell you what, if you don't believe me look up how many people have died from alcohol poisoning. Death, is that only temporary Jack?

Did you know alcohol causes cancer? It's proven. No, you probably don't want to know about that. Because you said you don't care. But you DO care enough to tell other people what they should be allowed and not allowed to ingest.

Ironic, because during alcohol prohibition killed a lot of people, and the laws that you now believe in were overturned so that you can enjoy your drinks in peace. But less than a hundred years ago YOU WOULD HAVE WENT TO JAIL for drinking that.

    Thanks...For the sanctimony....

  12. I find this extremely ironic. And somewhat hypocritical.

    One mans poison, eh Jack?

I honestly don't care what you think...

However, alcohol IS legal...I'm not interested in dopehead justifications for why they think they need the legal right to puff weed with impugnity, but,I also think the police have better things to do than potentially imprison someone for having a few joints on them.

Which is why I support decriminalization...If you get caught puffing a joint you get a ....say...a 50$ ticket?...Instead of a criminal record...

Are you suggesting that a narcotic like cocaine, and all we know about its addictive nature, should be legalized?

  13. The criminalization of drugs creates, encourages and profits organized crime.

The 'war on drugs' is conducted in countries that now want to legalize instead, to defeat organized crime and address consumption/addiction in other ways.

Latin Americas drug-war fatigue brings talk of legalization

Theyve seen high death tolls fighting cartels tooth and nail with no end in sight. Many are Mr. Harpers conservative allies. Even anti-cartel warriors like Mexicos Felipe Calderon will now at least talk about legalization.

I think the surprise is that there are these centre-right presidents that are now willing to talk about the framework surrounding drug policy, said Jennifer Canadian International Council. They feel the organized crime is a bigger problem than drug use.

Guatemalan President Otto Perez says the war on drugs has failed, and its time for legalization. Colombias President Juan Manuel Santos told the Washington Post there has to be discussion of another way to confront the challenges.

If we find that there is a better alternative that will take away the profits from the criminal organizations and that maybe you can address the problem of consumption in a more effective way, then everybody will win.

Now I know there are some people who will oppose legalization without giving it any consideration at all. These are the people who perpetuate organized crime and allow criminals to profit.

You're either with us or you're with organized crime. :)

Legalisation of pot or pot and cocaine?

I don't support the legalization of either...

Decriminalization of pot is what I do support...

Legalization or decriminalization of cocaine should never be considered...
