Mike Harris did nothing wrong.
cgarrett replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
get a brain! here in bc, gordon campbell started out by borrowing more money than any bc governement in history! to pay for tax cuts to the rich(20 percent alone went to the richest 1 percent)! then he gave bc rail ($1.6 billion profitable asset) to one of his biggest party contributers (a directed sale)! a lease for a thousand years which works out to be about $60 a year! then he put bc hydro under the direction of accenture (an off shore company) who said that tea can be cheap in china but power will not be cheap in bc and its going to be controled by the american power grid! and gave a 60 year contract to administer bc ferries (where was i when they were handing this one out)! the list goes on and after three years of this our economy is the worst performing in canada! even business leaders are having a tough time making excuses for it... wake up hjalmar! -
yeah, harper does seem to be relying solely on this 'liberal punishment' thing... his tactics show it and it could work. this is just like a rerun of the bc provincial election where the liberals made like they were all moderates and that the bad ndp screwed up on the fast ferries. now gordon campbell has sold off bc rail to his biggest contributor, privatized hydro and liquor stores... anything thats profitable is gone! these items make fast ferries look like a spilt ice cream cone and then he went and sold the ferries back to the builders who were laughing hysterically at the great deal! the electorate weren't punishing the ndp... they were punishing themselves!
-
actually they're not drug addicts... they're baby boomers! 'last time you remember' dosen't really cut it... state some facts.
-
actually i've read this article and i don't see pat buchanan agreeing? hes just interviewing... i'm a bit confused as to how naders views are like stephen harpers? nader proposes wiping out taxes for all labor under $100,000. not wiping out more taxes to the upper classes and corporations. is stephen harper going to scrap nafta? his financial supporters would flip! i'd also like to enlighten people that the middle class starts at $70k. there is a huge amount of confusion regarding this. you will meet people everyday making $25k calling themselves middle class.

hey, i bet they're not lying through their teeth to get elected! not like some parties i know! proportional representation all the way!
-
how does the size of our country affect the delivery of health care??? i could see that people may have to travel farther but... actually, luxembourg has only 400,000 people and it seems to be doing fine with publicly funded health care... as are many other countries in the world with smaller populations than our own.
-
i'm having a tough time finding this breaking news on the internet but the cbc is reporting that ralph nader will release a letter shortly advising canadians to not vote for the conservative party of canada. in fact, he is suggesting that if all canadians want to do is punish the liberals then they should vote for the ndp! the election is really getting fun!
-
exactly, reverend! and there are many nations with a system just like our own that is working fine! lets just fund it like it should be funded. as could be deciphered from my original post... i don't trust harper or martin to do what needs to be done here.

Conservatives - Party for Men, Rich?
cgarrett replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
really, i expect more from you august... this is far too simplistic. government does so much more than most people realize and most of what it does business demands and its expensive. for example, business and the economy demands transportable routes to ship goods and services. again, this is mostly business that needs this... but regular people chip in to build highways and bridges in this example. this is the power of a nation pooling its resources to make these huge projects possible. and some people gain jobs out of the deal but the economy grows and all canadians benefit when this occurs in many areas all over the country. i've used highways as an example here but the same could be said for power, water, communications infrastructure and on and on... this isn't me spending my neighbors money... thats ridiculous. -
any chance that his local party candidates are pulling him down? he has been desperate to appear moderate and shake off any radical reform perceptions... but i have seen a couple of candidates on tv here in bc that were far from pulling the moderate party line! actually, i was quite surprised by a couple of these guys... don't they have any communication from party hq letting them know what harpers strategy is and to shut up and not scare people? any of the party leaders could be saints and not get elected if their local candidates were off in some other field...

as private industry gains share of the health reponsibility in the two-tier system, so will its strength to ensure that government does not compete with it or in any way act in a manner that may damage its profits! in fact, our public system would be open to legal challenge almost immediately under nafta if we were to allow private health care delivery. any attempt at enforcing public services for health care will be met with pressure from these institutions to resist such changes. the private industry will always be producing pressure to expand and in fact is the reason that our public system is a constant matter of debate today. certain party purses are flush with cash from such private interests. what canadians want is equal access to health care. the introduction of a two-tiered system is not equal access.

yeah, i'm sorry but this whole idea that third world people are our slaves is a little disgusting... especially since the whole reason they are treated like dirt is because its ensured that they do not unionize to attempt to improve their share of the profits for the work that they do. there is way too much talk about competition and profits on the site without any real knowledge about it. the reality is that nike wants to make shoes as cheaply as possible to increase their profits... not to make shoes cheaper for the consumer. in fact, they have spent lots of money promoting their product in order to convince consumers that their products are worth a more than other similar products! where does this treatment of the third world end? do these people really have a choice? to work under horrible conditions or starve? i guess the real neocons are thinking... starve. if i control a third world nation and decide that i will enslave people to work for me then would you buy my product? isn't working for someone and seeing a minute fraction of the value of my work actually slavery?

Gotta love the anti-Harper multimedia
cgarrett replied to montlid's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
this is awsome... and the important question it asks is... is harper a moderate? or just a wolf (reform) in sheeps clothing. -
i'd like to see some posts about what people think may happen post election. what i find interesting is that everyone has started saying which party they would not be coalitioning with.. which is the same as who they would be coalitioning with. so harper will join forces with the liberals and the bloc are willing to join forces with the ndp? i think the ndp and liberals may see eye to eye on some issues as well... either way i think that this election is going to give canadians more power and the left will keep the right in check. the ndp will have more power to raise hell about stuff like buying aircraft carriers etc...

this last weekend i spent an hour attempting to console my 62 year old mother in the waiting area of emergency while she suffered horrifically from a broken leg without any pain medication! i could not wish such an experience on my worst enemies! five days with a broken leg and finally she can have routine surgery to repair it... we are all getting older and the number of horror stories regarding our financially ignored health care system have risen. but i am a little concerned about steven harpers new angel wings he has been advertising with respect to health care. when martin cut federal transfer payments to the provinces that everyone knew was paying for much of the health care services that the provinces were providing he said that it wasn't enough of a cut! its funny how he doesn't mention "scraping the canada health act" (his words) anymore? he has proposed a third of the money that the romonav report has suggested that is required to get health care back to what it should be? and yet he has portrayed himself as some kind of health care savior! will the conservatives lead health care in the same direction as the liberals? slow starvation followed by privatization to the point where private health care is bigger than public with public health care finally being virtually phased out? why not propose spending more on health care instead of aircraft carriers?!

well actually, now that we have some ultra corporate feudalists in power her in b.c. you will notice that they are desperate to prove that there has been anything except a huge demise in the bc economy (one mp spouting off that moving truck rentals to bc are up!). getting back to the 90's. every party on earth is going to try to take responsibility for something that didn't even happen. the rise of "dumb money" in the form of "privitised" retirement investment was the major creator of this bull economy which in the end turned out to be about as valuable as the paper it was printed on. the only people who made money in the 90's were those who new what the game was and when it came to an end then most "dumb money" was much poorer than they had been at the beginning of the decade.

actually, did i mention kyoto in my post? harper has a wonderful "calculated ambiguity" on the topic of carbon dioxide. he talks a lot about kyoto... fighting against it, voting for it etc etc. but he is very careful not to say anything that might infer that carbon dioxide is helping to heat the planet. he does not indicate that carbon dioxide should be ruled a pollutant. he just wants to talk about smog. sure, the slow sure method may do something... eventually. but many have indicated that kyoto is far far too little. does this not suggest that we are doomed if we cannot even implement kyoto? i'm sorry that i am someone who is concerned about this. but in my lifetime now, i am noticing a huge difference in the weather where i am and i believe that part of the lie is to give baby boomers some idea that this will only affect the next generation. but i will be around for another 30 years! think about it... this year we had summer weather and water restrictions in april and everyday seems to be record temperatures where i live. over the last decade this is happening at an advanced rate. how much longer do you plan to be alive? if every five years we have summer weather one month early then in 20 years there will be no winter at all. just think about it. i have done more to combat this situation than most. i have been an avid bicyclist all of my life. after getting married a couple of years ago i found myself driving everywhere. this year my wife and i have two new cruiser bicycles and are enjoying them tremendously. we bicycle everywhere a few times a day. i've had it with oil! but let me tell you something... everywhere i bicycle something is extremely clear! we live amongst huge filthy dinosaurs! the internal combustion engine is a relic of the past and a symptom of mankind's worst features. its big and hungry, its extremely wasteful and it is everywhere! its like a plague!

i don't trust anyone who thinks that the world is flat or that the moon is made of cheese. harper continues to be a global warming denier... his pockets are so full of oil money its not even funny. and the crazy thing is that the shift in energy supplies means great prosperity to parts of canada (but a decline for the big alberta oil moguls). he is simply there to enforce the status quo.

its the "perpetual war" thing. lets face it, the united states military industrial complex needs a war all the time in order to make money...

Libs 'desperate', launch all-out attack on Cons
cgarrett replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
getting back to the topic that maple had attempted to set up... what do the conservative thinkers on this forum think about the harper image being portrayed? the liberals charge that history has shown extreme right wing political views in harpers words and actions in the past. and what is completely obvious is harpers attempt at portraying himself as a moderate almost centered politician. do any of the strong conservatives in this forum view this as a cop out or just a cover to gain votes from liberal abandon voters? personally i am concerned about this portrayal and that what we see federally is just what played out here in b.c. at the last provincial election. gordon campbell capitalized on ndp faults like fast ferries and portrayed himself also as a centered politician. once he had total control of the province he showed himself to be as centered as say... bush! -
Was The War in Iraq Necessary
cgarrett replied to Alliance Fanatic's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
black dog... you rock! talk about good research! its too bad that some people have made up their minds that the earth is flat! if i may add... globalization is simply a device to subvert democracy! it places unheard of powers into the hands of corporations whose operations are not transparent to view by citizens who are affected by their activities. canadians are now being sued by two huge american corporations under the free trade agreement. sun belt water: US$1.5 to $10.5 billion united parcel service: C$230 million because we decided democratically to, for example, not allow the export of water but under nafta we don't necessarily get to decide what we want! -
the whole reagan funeral is just another 'snow job' for president bush and other republicans. gee, i've even seen arnold s. yapping on NeoconBC about how he looked up to reagan. give me a break! thats laughable. on dennis miller some guys says something like "many people have said terrible things about reagan and maybe feel now that those things were imapropriate and bush has many of the same things said about him today"! hilarious! maybe we should revise history regarding the activities of hitler or stalin or pinochet! heck, they weren't all that bad... were they? i know that not all americans are so stupid as to beleive this tripe! the biggest threat to americans (and canadians) is the ownership of most media by a small number of individuals (a great topic for another post). i'd be interested to hear what harper says... is he going? did he look up to reagan too?

reagan, reagan... such a long time ago... lets see... reagonomics, iran-contra, military coupe in chile... oh here's one that is fitting... dick cheney goes to iraq to sell chemical weapons to saddam for use in the iran-iraq war! ah, the memories...

GEORGE W. BUSH 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Washington, DC 20520 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Law Enforcement: I was arrested in Kennebunkport, Maine, in 1976 for driving under the influence of alcohol. I pled guilty, paid a fine, and had my driver's license suspended for 30 days. My Texas driving record has been "lost" and is not available. Military: I joined the Texas Air National Guard and went AWOL. I refused to take a drug test or answer any questions about my drug use. By joining the Texas Air National Guard, I was able to avoid combat duty in Vietnam. College: I graduated from Yale University with a low C average. I was a cheerleader. PAST WORK EXPERIENCE: * I ran for U.S. Congress and lost. I began my career in the oil business in Midland,Texas, in 1975. * I bought an oil company, but couldn't find any oil in Texas. The company went bankrupt shortly after I sold all my stock. * I bought the Texas Rangers baseball team in a sweetheart deal that took land using taxpayer money. * With the help of my father and our friends in the oil industry (including Enron CEO Ken Lay), I was elected governor of Texas. ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS GOVERNOR OF TEXAS * I changed Texas pollution laws to favor power and oil companies, making Texas the most polluted state in the Union. During my tenure, Houston replaced Los Angeles as the most smog-ridden city in America. * I cut taxes and bankrupted the Texas treasury to the tune of billions in borrowed money. * I set the record for the most executions by any governor in American history. * With the help of my brother, the governor of Florida, and my father's appointments to the Supreme Court, I became President after losing by over 500,000 votes. ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS PRESIDENT: * I am the first President in U.S. history to enter office with a criminal record. *I invaded and occupied two countries at a continuing cost of over one billion dollars per week. * I spent the U.S. surplus and effectively bankrupted the U.S. Treasury. * I shattered the record for the largest annual deficit in U.S. history. * I set an economic record for most private bankruptcies filed in any 12-month period. * I set the all-time record for most foreclosures in a 12-month period. * I set the all-time record for the biggest drop in the history of the U.S. stock market. In my first year in office, over 2 million Americans lost their jobs and that trend continues every month. * I'm proud that the members of my cabinet are the richest of any administration in U.S. history. My "poorest millionaire" Condoleeza Rice, has a Chevron oil tanker named after her. * I set the record for most campaign fund-raising trips by a U.S. President. * I am the all-time U.S. and world record-holder for receiving the most corporate campaign donations. * My largest lifetime campaign contributor, and one of my best friends, Kenneth Lay, presided over the largest corporate bankruptcy fraud in U.S. History, Enron. * My political party used Enron private jets and corporate attorneys to assure my success with the U.S. Supreme Court during my election decision. * I have protected my friends at Enron and Halliburton against investigation or prosecution. I presided over the highest gasoline prices in U.S. history. * I changed the U.S. policy to allow convicted criminals to be awarded government contracts. * I appointed more convicted criminals to administration than any President in U.S. history. * I created the Ministry of Homeland Security, the largest bureaucracy in the history of the United States government. * I've broken more international treaties than any President in U.S. history. * I am the first President in U.S. history to have the United Nations remove the U.S. from the Human Rights Commission. * I withdrew the U.S. from the World Court of Law. * I refused to allow inspector's access to U.S. "prisoners of war" detainees and thereby have refused to abide by the Geneva Convention. * I am the first President in history to refuse United Nations election inspectors (during the 2002 U.S. election). * I set the record for fewest numbers of press conferences of any President since the advent of television. * I set the all-time record for most days on vacation in any one year period.
