  1. great article outlining why the u.s. has abandoned the un, the international court of justice... and eventually the wto. www.zmag.org/zmag/articles/may97chomsky.html i know, i know... chomsky, communist! whatever! the most important thing to come away with is that all international conflicts are financial. rarely in history is anything actually motivated by 'morality' or 'liberty' or 'free markets' or 'proletariatism' or 'socialism' or 'capitalism'. and the 'radical' point i'm going to make here is... those who are brainwashed to accept u.s. doctrine (democratic, republican, liberal, conservative or otherwise) are anti-canadian. being called anti-canadian probably doesn't strike any fear into the hearts of canadians... but i should.
  2. hey, pioneer... don't bother to use your brain to comment on my argument. i'm from b.c.! instead, i will repost b.max's link to the identification of global warming _terrorists_! please read again! hilarious! www.lewrockwell.com/orig/englund5.html sorry, but i can't get enough of this kind of thing... gorbachev and qadhafi are behind the whole thing! ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!ha!
  3. i'm not suggesting that we _stop_ trading with the u.s. we can export to the u.s. all we like. but regarding imports, then maybe we should start to look elsewhere. whether we are talking about imports or exports, kyoto or no kyoto, its always healthier for an economy to expand past traditional trading partners. and as for the free trade agreement... the americans don't follow it so why should we. the fact that such an event would occur and even make it into u.s. news papers would increase pressure for the u.s. to sign on to kyoto. i'm not talking about 'centrally controlled industry' here. i'm talking about a democratic society providing incentive in directions that they want industry to go and restrictions on avenues they don't want industry to go. every country in the world does it. when you discuss the auto lobby then you are cluing in to the status quo industries who don't want anything to change. north american auto manufacturers are on the road to producing hybrid vehicles but, of course, they are way behind the japanese and have to play catch up. i could go on and on about how corrupt the whole auto industry is... but just imaging a world of say... toyota prius vehicles, which emit 1/60th of the emissions of the average car. imagine how silent our roadways would become! imagine standing in a huge traffic jam of stopped vehicles and hearing... silence! and being able to breath the air! automobiles account for an astounding 25% of our co2 emissions. cutting this considerably would immediately put us in the kyoto ballpark.
  4. the article does seem to have a positive outlook. duke energy does indicate successful initiatives exceeding kyoto requirements regarding the reduction of co2 pollution. as for competitiveness, the article is too broad and does not go into any detail by industry. if we are talking about foreign markets then we have the option of insisting that kyoto participants purchase from other kyoto participants. even if the foreign market is not participating we may benefit from advertising our exports as 'kyoto compliant'. the whole idea of a 'kyoto market' i think is an interesting one. as for local markets... we should definitely start to place import duties on imported items not meeting the kyoto accord.
  5. _if_ you do believe that the worlds climate is changing and that the record temperatures being experienced world wide are factual (and not created by zionists, fascists, communists, neo-cons, whatever who are everywhere adding or subtracting readings from thermometers) then the following is not argued even by oil companies: - that carbon dioxide is a green house gas - that carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere are 40% higher than they were at the beginning of the industrial revolution - that mankind is currently adding two parts per million of carbon dioxide every year to the atmosphere - that no other reason for the change of weather patterns can be identified (even admitted directly by the 'we don't know whats happening' ceo of exxon). so, is mankind creating weather change? maybe not... but this is kinda like a fireman investigating a house fire and being told that junior was playing with matches in his bedroom at the time of the blaze. it could have been for some other reason... what i find most worrisome is that _if_ this _is_ happening, then most baby boomers are convinced that they will be dead before anything catastrophic is going to happen. yet, i would be moving from florida if i had was retired there! we are seeing the effects... now.
  6. i'll just be happy when this whole "gay marriage" story, designed to mask upcoming party budget issues, blows over. in the grand scheme of things, how it actually affects each of us is imperceptible.
  7. the man does not have a mental disease! his problem are those horns growing out of the front of his head! the man thinks nothing of killing thousands. whether in retaliation or for fun. american or otherwise. one cannot be denied in any way... that more people have died in the world while junior has been in power since... well, the last republican president!
  8. this is an important subject that i have been talking to people about. not necessarily about brain washing... but about the concerns of a huge and powerful number of old people. old people do become more 'conservative' but not due to experience. as they grow closer to retirement then they become more fiscally conservative (as they should). its a universal fear to retire poor and the boomers are acting accordingly to avoid such a situation whether whole societies are destroyed or not. it doesn't matter to them... they only have a few years left. global warming is not an issue for them... gas prices are. the homeless are not an issue... prescription drug prices are. the list goes on. this is where democracy kind of falls flat. at least in the first past the post and party driven system. the majority imposes its interests on the minority (in this case the younger generation). and this majority are capable of bankrupting nations and not being around to experience the bad effects.
  9. i do agree that some things are bound to happen... man is going to continuously encroach on wild habitats. and the production of oil based products is not going to stop. i am not an 'out and out' environmentalist, but it is obvious that the weather is changing within my life time that i notice without anyone telling me about it. and this change is faster than any in the history of the planet. and coincides identically with the rise of carbon dioxide pollution by mankind. we have other choices. we need to make them now even if it does upset the status quo. theres nothing harsh or damaging about it except to those who are billionaires because of existing systems. and trust that they are going to make every effort to subvert any changes. whats ridiculous is the fact that neo con fascism immediately labels anyone who is concerned about the environment as a communist! i own a technology company that employs several individuals. i own a 6 cylinder bmw! but you know what, my next car is going to be a prius or something similar. not some huge stinky tonka truck! suvs and trucks should be restricted to those who actually need them.
  10. I personally am not conviced that climate change is 100% due to industialisation, that's not to say that I wish for a "free-er market". I believe that it is necessary in many places to allow wild life to grow, however only for human needs (trees for oxygen, fish to eat, aswell as the life forms that sustain them should be saved). To me alot of this global warming stuff is just paranoia spread to the working class to make us believe that a better world is hopeless. a better world is not hopeless. oil gave us great power and mobility. but we now know that carbon dioxide is a pollutant. there are tones of alternatives... but oil is the largest industry in the world and spends the most money convincing us that carbon dioxide is not pollutant. its very reminiscent of the tobacco companies telling people that smoking is good for you... which they used to advertise. remember the 'greening of the earth' campaign that the oil companies tried for awhile? in many ways, events like these usually lead to a societies downfall anyways. the power of north american society is that they had a new world that was free of old restraining culture or infrastructure. lets face it... the gas automobile is a dinosaur of technology.
  11. It would seem that there are those that do know. http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig/englund5.html please name the source of financing for the 'tree huggers' It is actually big business, who's revenues come largely from the everyday uninformed willing dupes of the country or their taxes which are first extorted, and then handed over to the likes of the UN. oh, i get it... its the corporations who are the communists?! we should shut them down! oh, its the u.n. too who are the mao marxists?! canada is giving all of its money to the u.n. and we don't even know it?! the article you quoted is _absolutely_ hilarious!!! really, i'm sending it to all of my friends... its the russians! the rusky pinkos! the cold war is still on!? i thought reagan 'ended' the cold war?! nuke them! nuke them now!
  12. b.c. will be voting for an proportional representation system this march. i suspect that it will succeed...
  13. so, a charter should not seek to protect an individual from other individuals or private entities? do you really care august? or are you just towing the party line?
  14. black dog, i am truly disgusted at your decision to follow a way of life where a man may be married to only one women, or none at all... but, i'm not going to get in your way. our country democratically supports 'freedom of religion' and democracy is the only true 'freedom'. so, when i see you on the street with your nuclear family i will turn the other cheek and accept you as a fellow canadian!
  15. b. max, i love you man! but please, don't hold back! call a spade a spade, will ya? red on the inside? come on... communist infiltrates! mao marxist propagandists! all designed to disrupt our culture and... and what?! no really... and what?! what dark secret is it do you surmise? is it the chinese? muslims mao terrorists? please name the source of financing for the 'tree huggers'! if no one knows then don't you think we have a _real_ problem? i mean, forget terrorism! forget iran and north korea! forget libya! (oh, sorry. we have forgotten libya) we need to freeze the assets of the red forces immediately!
  16. i'm afraid that the constant rattling of the cpp cage is old. part of its demise was the 'liberalization' to rrsp's brought on by salivating banks and equity market players. how are you rrsp's doing? are you constantly on top of investment strategies etc... most people are not. changes proposed for more 'liberalization' of social security in the u.s. will further put people in the tank as they loose even more money in the stock market. the equity markets love things like the 'tech bubble'. because brokerage houses and investment bankers all make huge quick money from selling stocks that have astronomical price to earnings rations to grandmothers. what the equity markets hate is government investors who wield huge money like a big stick and create growth and potential wherever they choose to land it just from the force of capital. these investors can rarely be taken for a quick ride... we all want to retire someday. none of us wants to drop dead at work! we need guaranteed returns or as close to that as possible and we need to pool our money.
  17. bring on polygamy! i got a vote... and i want polygamy! you guys who have one wife and don't think anyone should have more than one are just jealous that you couldn't get more than one. now, i've had a couple of threesomes with some very nice girls... really, you don't know what you're missing!
  18. it doesn't really matter anyways does it? at the rate of change of our climate then the northern tundra will begin to melt releasing trillions of tones of methane a day. this will feed on itself creating ever hotter conditions. there's nothing that can be done. we are doomed. there have been two other mass extinctions in the history of the planet. humans may not make it through the coming one but... life will go on for the squid! as far as 'who is telling the truth', i'm amazed that people don't think about who is actually telling it. as for fossil fuels, there are many pundits, they are obvious and have obvious motivations. they can be named easily. they are heavily tied to vast amounts of money. do tell who these 'powerful people' on the global warming front are. no, i'm really interested. is it the lone scientist? is it the 'powerful' environmental movement? the 'raging grannies'? maybe simply politicians looking to create environmental fear so that they can convince a country to invade iran!? or is it another mao marxist communist plot!? have any of these guys been actually identified by the way? if not, then they certainly should be feared!
  19. not having a published agenda is as much a plan as any in our world of political marketing. if the ruling party keeps airing their dirty laundry then the opposing party can run on the 'time for a change' motto. of course, it was shy of happening in the u.s. but geez.. we're talking about a huge population of buffoons! british columbians are far more educated than white males in alabama! the highest ranks of the campbell liberals should be in jail! there is no other way to perceive it except by idiots. i would much rather have a bunch of left wing morons in control than extremely smart people... who are evil to the core. the selling off of bc rail is all that is required to sell my case here. check out the facts on this matter. the premier GIVES AWAY a massive billion dollar asset to his parties largest sponsor. whats worse, he is looking for more big money everywhere he can with rewards of public assets! if he didn't get jail time in hawaii then he should have it here. and on top of that, i think everyone is pretty sick of having their locally elected representatives gagged! at least with the ndp one could contact them and they would respond and something might happen. with the campbell liberals its a one man show.
  20. on topic, i really think that ones head is truly stuck in the sand if one does not believe the invasion of iraq is not all about oil. this looming fact remains: the world demand for oil will overtake the world production of oil in 2016. so anyone sitting on oil is sitting on untold wealth after this market condition is met. control of supply will have no bearing after this time. sure, unprofitable sources will certainly be harvested but these are baby supplies that will have no affect on the overall market conditions.
  21. Israel's support by the u.s. is well documented. the unites states has a very large contingent of jewish people and these people control vast amounts of u.s. wealth. Israel opened its borders to foreign immigration of jewish people around the time of the acquisition of palestine. an estimated 100,000 u.s. voting citizens live in Israel, many in the occupied territories. the u.s. has stronger ties to isreal than any other middle eastern country. this makes it a very important ally, not adversary, in this oil rich area. this situation is further capitalized on by Israel in the form of military aide etc...
  22. i didn't hear much about this study in the us news before the election. http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/29/internat...6af29a5&ei=5070 mass murder...
  23. i think that this thread is missing another important issue around misuse of this information... economic benefit. having our health information in the united states must be like having a steak in front of a dogs nose to the american health delivery industry. and with the cozy relationship between dog and republican...
  24. here in bc, the government is desperately attempting to outsource data control to american based companies. it is clear that once this has occurred then that information is freely available to the u.s. government under the infamous patriot act. under the patriot act, these agencies may view this information without due process, at their discretion and without notifying the relevant parties. do you agree with this? as a tax payer, do you feel that you have the right to prevent foreign countries from viewing your personal information?
  25. This is simplistic nonsense. The only reason men are "behind" evil things is because they are generally in charge. But when women ARE in charge I've seen no lessening of "evil", be it Pakistan, India or the UK. Women can be just as greedy, arrogant and power hungry as men. Give more power to more women and you'll see more females who are corrupt, vindicitive, self-serving, dishonest scum. Just look at the female politicians in Canada. They're every bit as self-serving and corrupt as their male colleagues. not at all, argus. are you arguing that if half of the police force in vancouver were women that the 70 missing women would still be an ignored issue? i really don't think so. i'm not saying that women are also capable of extreme behavior but that behavior is different and women want an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives.
