To get back onto topic.......... Last week, I would have thought Khamanei to be a shoe in to go first, but with the recent bombing in Lebanon, which has possable ties with Syria (and the United States recalling it's embassy staff from Syria) I think the spread is even between Khamanei and Assad to go first and second. As for the last three, I don't know much about Mubarak, but in all honesty, I doubt the Saudi Royal Family will go well Bush is in power..........after Bush goes, who knows who will be President......Could it be Rudy? McCain? Newt? the Govinator? I think it will all depend on what the World looks like at that time and how the next Republicain president will handle it. As a side note, why didn't you include Kim Jong Il in that list?

Fellow Conservatives, whats more important to you?
Stoker replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
nah, as in "stoking the Conservative fire" NP, and welcome to the site. The current troop deployments we have. Who's saying we need to be the biggest? The Conservatives would be happy with the NATO average, minus the American average, which is not a huge figure. -

Off the top of my head: The Americans airlifted our forces around our country during the Quebec ice storm and the manitoba floods. They are currently supporting us in Afghanistain...via heavy lift helicopters, Theater airlift (I'll never forget seeing the pics of dead Canadains coming home on an American aircraft) and I'm sure a host of other things, which I'm sure Armyguy could point out. Their navy provided intelligence and support during the "boat people invasion" out here on the west coast years back. IIRC, the Americans gave us intelligence support during the turbot crisis with Spain. I'll add some more when I have the time. -

But we know already where the money needs to go.........I'm sure Armyguy would agree, it would likley be an easier exercise to point out where money is not needed. I agree with that principle, but vast sums of money are needed to fix the Armed Forces reguardless. I agree with your first point, but your second point is not supported by the majority of Canadians and the two real federal parties. -

So to prevent the "end of Canada", perhaps we should fund our miltary properly and in turn, not have to rely on the help of the United States or any other country for that mater to defend Canada and our intrests abroad. Fair enough....but we are, for the most part, doing neither and what we do manage to pull off, is only with the help of other NATO and allied countries, namely the United States. Wouldn't you like total Canadian independence? I would. Perhaps the best course of action the Americans could take, is that of a stance of tough love....ie no longer support us, and force Canadians to defend ourselves and our own citizens and intrests abroad. If things contiune as is, you might not have a choice Oh say can you see, by the dawn's early light.......... -

I agree about having a open tender, but realistically only the United States has the capablitiy to meet our needs. The Coast Guard is under the DFO........"SAR" in not just DND's monoply, it's shared by DND, DFO, RCMP, Provicial Police forces, and all the way down to municilpe forces and even volunteer groups. Why not stream line it, and allow the Americans or a private corporation to tako on the entire duty? Whats the difference, Canada already has little influence......it's just that most Canadians don't understand this. -

Not too mention, all the polls I've seen in the past suggests that the majority of Canadians favour playing a role on the world stage.........we just don't want to pay for it as all. -

I agree!!! But instead of relying on some sort of mercenary organization (I don't know if their is one large enough for our needs), let's sit down at the table with the Americans, and explain to them what services we require, then they can quote us a price.......we in turn pay in full. I'd have no problem outsourcing Coast Guard and SAR duties to either the Americans or a private corporation. As for the Miltia, whatever happens with WRT Canada's Armed Forces, I'd be very much in favour of handing over control of the Miltia to the Provinces, akin to the United States national guard. Nothing, if the majority of Canadians favored that........I just doubt the Majority of Canadians would be in faovur of a form of forced National Service, and being required to be in the reserves intill retirement age. Can you sell it to the Canadian people though? -
So you have evidence to prove that the people the Iraqis elected in last months vote are Amerian "political appointees"? You are correct, the American elections don't give Bush "carte blanche in the rest of the world", the United States military does. Again, might makes right.
-
Care to prove that? The iraqi government can ask the United States to leave anytime now...........but why would they? Do you have evidence to suggest that the United States is plundering Iraqi oil, without an exchange in either monatry compansation or a service? Yes, but he was voted in to protect the best intrests of the United States as he deems fit........which I've yet to see him fail on. Ahh but he is..........point to a instance in which the United States "involved" itself in, well knowing full well that their actions would bare no results on themselves. For that mater, name any country. In the real world, might makes right.

Do you want a little cheese to go with your wine? How many Canadians are being "thrown out of their homes" and forced to live in homeless shelters? IOW, how many taxpaying Canadians do homeless shelters effect? How many Canadians are defended by the men and women of the Canadian Forces? IOW how many Canadians lives have been or could be affected by these men and women? I'd rather my tax dollars go to DND, which is tasked with defending not only my life and the lives of my family, but all Canadians, from all present and future threats, be they man-made or natural. IMO, the lives of all Canadians should come before a select few. You are probably right...........but can't the same be said of those that lost their lives on 9/11 or the recent Asian disaster? Why are you opposed to put our limited resources into an area that can protect all Canadians and their intrests? Don't get me wrong, after the important issues are taking care of (ie Healthcare, Defence, education, debt reduction, tax relief, the Enviroment), I'd have no problem throwing some money at the poor........let's focus on the majority of Canadians first. Would you want your local Police/Fire/Ambualance service to have sub-standard equipment? Where are all these people being forced from their homes? Who's forcing them to leave? Who says money spent on defence is coming out the mouths of the poor in homeless shelters? I'll place the blame on inadequate funding to shelters on the Gun registry, sponsership of the arts, addscam and the CBC........there's 2-4 billion, think of all the Kraft Dinner, Hudson's bay Blankets and surplus army cots (that the DART got tired of playing with) that could buy for the poor Could you expalin further? Who's kicking them? And How? Is it not possable that some of these people "kicked themselves down" into their current situation? No, could you explain why you think this so? Is it a human right to be sponge? Say what? Can you provide a quote that suggests Armyguy advocates throwing people out of their homes? If not, I'd suggest that you read over the forum rules...... Nobody likes a troll -
Intresting: Tories up across Canada Ontario: Liberal: 44% (-10%) CPC: 32% (+6%) NDP: 18% (+2%) Atlantic: Liberal: 41% (-10%) CPC: 30% (+8%) NDP: 25% (+1%) West: Liberal: 34% (+1%) CPC: 40% (+2%) NDP: 21% Quebec: Bloc: 45% (no change) Liberal: 36% (+4%) CPC: 10% (+1%) NDP: 7% (-3%) Canada: Liberal: 38% (-3%) CPC: 29% (+3%) NDP: 17% (no change) Bloc: 11% (no change) Green: 5% (-1%) Undecided: 12% (-2%) Though I won't plan the Tory victory party at my house yet, I must admit, this does sound good when compared to the numbers posted by August a few weeks ago...... I wonder what the cause of this national shift is? SSM? Gomery?

US Missile Shield over Canada
Stoker replied to theloniusfleabag's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Russia France China So every country that won't we inside the BMD "bubble" is and has been developing ballistic missiles........ Are you saying that the likes of North Korea, Pakistain etc.......had no nuclear and long range missile programs before Bush? I agree, it's not like a member of the Canadian government would say disparaging remarks about the United States and their leader...... -
Do you have evidence to suggest that all the migrants leaving Cuba are Criminals? It's ok if you want to use the CIA factbook.........
-
caesar, are you quoting numbers giving by the CIA world fact book Your quote: From the CIA world fact book Word for word...........Didn't you say: But the CIA is handy when you want to prove a point eh?
-
caesar, why are all those Cubans risking their lives to come to America, through Shark infested waters on poorly made rafts? Since Cuba is "safer" and has "public Healthcare", why would they go to America? Here's an intresting sight you should read before you continue to make an ass of yourself: Facts on Cuba

I'm taking a sabbactial from politics.

Didn't Nixon say something along those lines after losing to Kennedy? -
Ahh, but what does the headline imply? The fifth estate had an hour long interview with her on a wide range of political topics and the media, and all they aired from the interview was a question about her past....... How is it the logical interpretation? He said: He didn't say the governments of Carter and Reagan....... He said "This Government", at the time when Bush Jr was president, not Bush sr, Ronnie Ray-Guns or the peanut farmer......... But back on topic. I fail to understand your point. You link an editoral written by a CBC employee, to "prove" the bias of Fox News I guess the Fox News is rotting my brain.....
-
Which "mainstream media" news Network/Newspaper do you wish me to prove holds a Liberal bias? Here's some Bias at CNN: CNN CNN Read the First Paragraph in each story, Then look at the matching Headline: And the stories Headline: *Then When the table are turned around: And the story Headline: So when Kerry was ahead in the polls, he lead, but when it was Bush who was ahead, he apparently lead........ You can take it however you wish...........again, the CBC bringing up the personnal lives of the "Fox Supporters", the questionable editing of the Marsden interview, the airing of only negative clips of O'Rielly, well showing Al Franken sobing.......etc He's not blaming America, but the Bush Administration for training the mujahedden, which in turn became Al Qaeda.......his claim, to be blunt, is retarded. All you need is some basic math and a slight understanding of history....... When did the Bush Administration come to power? When did the CIA supply arms and traning to the mujahedden? How could the Bush government have tranined the mujahedden? If I had of been O'Reilly, I'd be pissed also if some kid came on spouting BS like that..........
-
I can respect that view........ What do the other resident NDPers think? Also, why has this issue (to my knowledge) not recieved much attention nation wide? Has there been any cries for Bev to go by the NDP party/caucus?
-
If Layton doesn't toss here out on her arse, do you think the NDP should have a leadership review? IOW, Should Jack Layton either step down as the Leader of the NDP for his failure control his caucus on a issue of Human rights, or should he stay on as a hypocrite? Also, if layton does nothing in respect to fairness, should he withdraw his remarks on Paul Martin?
-
Why then does the CBC have no contention over the Left-wing bias American media that is currently available in Canada (and to a larger audience than Fox)? And for that mater, why didn't the CBC piece examine bias and negative influnence on the Canadian population from the Canadian news media, including the CBC? Wouldn't that have been a more objective documentry? Exploring all avenues? The CBC's critique on Fox News has about as much impartiality as would a quality reveiw done by Ford on General Motors......
