Gap between rich and poor rising faster in Canada
Sir Bandelot replied to Rick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I find it refreshing. But to be honest, jacee is probably not as anti-wealth as I am. I interpret the will to extreme wealth as being similar to mental illness. There is no way to explain the desire to hoard more wealth than you would ever need in this life, as with multi-millionaires and billionaires, other than a completely compulsive obsession that is destructive. It should be illegal to be so wealthy. If it were up to me I would not force rich people to give up their wealth, but would make it mandatory that they get psychiatric therapy. -

I recall the resources which were nationalized under Saddam were put up for sale and bought by western corporations. Canada did "well" in those rounds. Can't find the link but here's something. Link -
It shows how people around the world are coming to realize the same thing, and are fed up. People can tolerate and live with a certain amount of lies and corruption, as long as the bottom line is met. But it's when that line gets crossed that they get incensed, and finally want to do something. A wise leader knows when not to cross that line, and to throw them a bone once in a while. That's really all it takes. But today we are not as easily fooled, and that line is moving. People are smarter today perhaps than ever before, and it's partly because of the internet. It shows us how how our leaders manipulate the truth and constantly lie. They try to portray an image of providing fairness for the common person, but are in fact among the most corruptable there is. We pay taxes to our governments, all the while continually losing social programs. Cities are crunbling. Health care systems provide less and less services. But big money, the peoples money, is going into military budgets. Those budgets are increasing, in fact. Yet we know we share a common bond with other people around the world who just want to live in peace and raise their families. It's normal for there to be competition in the demand for resources, we all compete for better living standards among ourselves, and even between countries. But people are realizing that there is no need for war in order to resolve these differences. And most importantly, people are fed up with the lies. They see the bailouts and the bonuses, and the perks all the while there is wage stagnation, and, inflation. The markets are manipulated to give advantage to the big stakeholders.

Yeah like we need that... no more Kurnel Sanders.

"The fourth went forth", is very different in meaning from "the forth went forth". The latter is confusing and could also mean "the fourth went fourth"...

 Don't you be messin with my apple pies! I do recall the CN Tower being listed as under threat. And other sites where tourists tend to congregate, like Niagara Falls and the Peace Tower in Ottawa. -

The President won't do that, but will send his emissary, like Rumpsfeld did for Reagan in Iraq. No tent there, but the opportunity for a photo-op with Sadman could not be missed. Then again, I don't recall seeing any photos of a Canadian PM holding hands and smooching with Saudi Arabians... must be a uniquely American method of cajoling. -
To Invoke Or Not To Invoke

I don't think Jack Layton would have approved of it. -
Merck has given $28,500 to Perry's gubernatorial campaigns since January 2001, according to a new report by Texans for Public Justice, a political watchdog group, which uses data from the Center for Responsive Politics. And since January 2006, Merck has given an additional $377,500 to the Republican Governors Association, which, in turn, was one of the largest backers of Perry's own campaigns. Notably, Perry also served as the chairman of the governors association from 2007 until last month, when Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell succeeded him, so that Perry could pursue his presidential run. Perhaps more importantly, Perry's friend, former chief of staff Mike Toomey, spun through the revolving door to become a lobbyist for Merck in Texas, a position he held at the time of the HPV-related executive order. Link Perry says he can't be bought for a mere $5,000. Someone should have asked, what his price is...

Then the US will once again demonstrate its ability to exert power and influence over others. You know, the stuff that some Americans doubt ever happens. -
Obama's Protectionist Job Bills Is Bad For Canada
Sir Bandelot replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
To be an effective leader one needs only to present the APPEARANCE of getting things done. Obama is not even good at that. -

They have tried, but our security agents discovered the plot and were able to stop them. The 'Toronto 18' plot is one such incident, but there have been others that are not so well known. Our government tends to try and keep these occurrences quiet, where possible. It's advantageous to do so, not only to minimize public fear but to maintain clandestine operations. Suggest you guys try and do same -

It comes at a bad time though. I would not call information provided by NASA 'media hype'. "Logistically, we can support [operations] almost forever, but eventually if we don't see the Soyuz spacecraft, we'll probably going to unmanned ops before the end of the year," Michael Suffredini, NASA's space station program manager, told Spaceflight Now. - It and the astronauts who worked on it accomplished the mission objectives, and more. - The American publics interest is always waning, even did so during the Apollo missions. Didn't you watch 'Apollo 13'? - Manned space flight confined to low earth orbit was not a fault of the shuttle. It was a decision by NASA directors. That's what the shuttle was designed to do. - Blasting off from Earth on a rocket is inherently dangerous. Returning is also very dangerous. - Unmanned vehicles can deliver equipment, but complex repairs requiring improvisation will still require human beings. That is still in the plans now. More amendments are required. NASA had invested $922 million in the project before cancellation and Lockheed Martin a further $357 million. Over one billion dollars invested, test rockets built etc. is not being serious? How much would it take for you to call it serious? And this is only one proposed design. Other designs are/were also on the table, such as Orion. -

That's right. It's an unwritten rule that we don't talk about the US in the Canadian Politics forum. -

Not too good lately, unfortunately for the crew on the ISS. Link Exactly. No longer made in USA! I think it conclusively proved to be a big success. Never any plans to make a replacement? I recall hearing of several ideas and plans put out in recent years. The X-33 was one of them. -

Isn't the thread about Obama, jobs, United States economy? You keep taking it all over the place, in your typical evasive fashion. I know the loss of the shuttle program, and depending on Russia to deliver the groceries was a sore spot. Just cause I slam dunked ya on every point... -

Yeah it looks pretty but it's just a drawing on a piece of paper. Building those suckers will cost 35 billion a pop. Speaking of small minded, you won't be getting that money from Obama -

The Canadarm was great on that thing. Some of the most important work was done with it. Seeing the Canadian flag emblem on it, so high up in space, always made our little nation feel proud. They even made a double-jointed one. It was really good, and that's why America bought it... -

Canada has a very active space program. "Canada's experience in space began in 1962, with the launching of the Alouette 1 research satellite. Canada was the third country in the world after Russia and the United States to design and build its own satellite." Alouette, gentille Alouette Alouette, je te plumerai... -
