Elminate it and force provinces to live within their means. If they have serious short falls they could apply to the federal government on a yearly basis, to be approved as stand alone by a stand alone vote. Not part of the budget bill. The federal government would be able to drop income taxes drastically and provinces could increase their's to make up a portion of the new short fall they have. It would also cause all of the bureaucracies to restructure, like elminate many supervisory positions as for example we have too many in alberta's civil service as it is. The ratio should be moved to 1 supervisor to every 25 employees like in the private sector.

They are able to fund it and other programs because of equalization. The fact is they are spending federal tax money on programs that the taxpayers who supplying the money can vote on. If they can afford these lavish social programs they don't need equalization.

ah but that is because more federal taxes are being collected to cover this off. If federal taxes are reduced it makes room for the provinces to increase their's. Wyly is right about the Quebec tuition.

our legislature should decide it, much like was done before equalization existed. Ontairio had loaned/transferred Alberta money in the past to help build the technology to beable to extract the oil from the tar sands.

I have seen nothing from true small c conservatives that show they want it to have more power. They want smaller government with less government intrusion that would be a reduction in government power not an increase. In fact most coversvatives would prefer a negative "bill of rights" then the charter of rights because these lay out what a government can not do it limits a governments ability to enact creeping increases in power over individuals.

So if Global warming is solely anthropogenic in nature why did global temperatures rise before the industrial revolutions? Why did the earth go though warming and cooling periods before man was on the earth. If it is in fact solely anthropogenic in nature should then the temperatures of the earth have been static? Just curious.

In a family you decide how to share your wealth, how much and to who. Equalization doesn't afford you this freedom.

This was actually done by the Martin government. The Tories changed the agreement it 2007 when the allegations first came out.
