  1. I was not aware of this fact. when i lived in London i dated a Finish girl. if i had to guess the alcoholism could also be a factor in that (the suicide rate not my choice in girls). Do we have ignore or killfile options or on this board?
  2. a path on the road, eh? so consistently ranking among the highest in quality of life and having some of the most content citizens in the world does not make a country a success?! i'm rather new to this board - but getting the impression trying to discuss anything with you is going to be a waste of my time, isn't it?
  3. That was 1933! NINETEEN THIRTY THREE! ONE NINE THREE THREE In that order! NDP is not the CCF. That was 75 years ago! Seventy five! Some minor things that have happened since then: • World War II • Newfoundland joins Canada • Korean war • CCF decides communism, `not so great' • Vietman • U.S. forces Iraq out of Kiwait • Cretien chokes a guy • Sept 11th • U.S. invades Iraq I mean - i hope to god no one tracks down some of the dumb crap I wrote back in highshcool and that was only 25 years ago!
  4. I'm saying equating the ndp with communism is as off the mark as calling the cons authoritarians.
  5. There is a difference between socialism and communism, you know. I think this whole argument going on right now on this thread, in the context of what the thread is about, is ridiculous. If we're going to lump the NDP in as communists then we might aswell be arguing the merits of authoritarianism (in the case of the conservatives). I think if there's a style of government the dippers would model themselves after it would probably be that of Sweden or Finland. So why don't you go over there and tell me how they're doing.
  6. I have nothing to add, except that I find Flaherty's behavior beyond inappropriate. I lack even the words to describe how disgusted I am with his behavior.
  7. well, if they spent just *like* an NDP gov't we wouldn't have seen all those little cut backs on various social programs that raised such a fuss a few months ago - and way less cash being funneled into the military. Although i guess you kind of already touched on my point. Also let's not forget - the biggest tax hike in our nations' history came from a conservative gov't!
  8. i don't think you're getting my point at all here, dude. it is clearly illegal here to posses heroin. mailing it, i'm sure, even more serious. it is not the same with pot seeds. not by a long shot.
  9. Those bastards! how dare they not use the recycling!
  10. well Duke would have to COME HERE to do that - on our soil - to be charged! and if he mailed stuff - do you think the U.S. would serve him up to us? they would freak the F___ out at the very idea!
  11. oops!^ it is relevant tho. we don't have clear laws on the matter. seeds don't contian thc, which is the main thing in pot that affects Emery's judgment! like i said before - it's a big grey area. There are things that are illegal up here - things deemed hate speech - that are considered free speech down south. but they're not sending anyone with a white supremest website up here to jail time are they?
  12. See, with your example, defrauding people over the phone (or online - whatever) is illegal here and there. clearly a violation of both our laws. the two do not compare tho, i'm sorry.
  13. When has this happened? it's one thing to kill a guy up here and then flee to the states or vice versa. since murder is illegal in both nations picking him or her up and extraditing them is a no-brainer. however the cannabis laws here are really vague. to the point that even if the feds here wanted to toss him in jail for selling seeds they would have to make the law much, MUCH clearer in order to do so. AND even then he would not be facing a ridiculous 30 year sentence. if he was selling smack to children over the boarder sure arrest him. throw away the key. if he wants to go to the states himself and they pick him up - well not smart on his part and there's not much we can do about it. but he was arrested on Canadian soil for something that isn't even a clear violation of our law. that is what stinks about all this.
  14. You're half right. It's about sovereignty. Period. Arresting a Canadian in Canada for violation of U.S. laws. Is a direct violation of our sovereignty. The law here is a big grey area - but that's not what's at issue. Nor is it what anyone thinks about Emery. When the U.S. declared war against Britain in 1812 the central issue was the British Navy boarding U.S. ships to arrest their deserting troops whom had joined the U.S. They saw it as an affront to their sovereignty they said it illegal and they went to war over it. Now they're doing it to us and the only people who are even aware of the issue seem preoccupied (for the most part) with the details of who Emery was. That is not the issue tho - it has nothing to do with what is a stake. Andrew Jackson said some very pertinent things back them about other nations applying their laws to you and taking your citizens away. I'd look it up for you guys but I'm at work. sorry.
  15. I agree 100% - what he did was fraud imho.
  16. I really hope that your spelling of his name was a mistake here.
