  1. Fahrenheit 9/11's success allowing Moore to plow ahead with new film, Sicko I am sure once the Americans see Sicko, those that don't already desire it, will be clammering for a publically-funded, publically operated universal health-care system like the Canadian one. Michael Moore has become one of the most powerful tools for progressive change. I am looking forward to seeing it. Gotta love the title - Sicko. Shades of Cookoo's Nest, anyone?
  2. The oil barons and the separatists didn't like him. Sounds like a healthy guy to me.
  3. Bowling for Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11 are excellent movies, I'll grant you that. I can't wait for Sicko. Concerning legal weapons becoming illegal - ask any policeman and he will explain it to you.
  4. What were people doing to Trudeau for him to have reacted with a jesture like that?
  5. Do you pay to register your vehicle? What are initially legal firearms often become illegal. I rest my case.
  6. Trudeau hated the West, what's next? Where do you come up with these absurdies? He married someone from the West. The reality is nothing ever changes. All the bellyaching coming out of Alberta is the old rich against the poor argument and nothing else. The NEP was simply a redistribution of wealth in Canada which is the role of our federal government. And if another area in Canada becomes financially wealthy in the future, Canadians would expect no less a solution from our federal government. We constantly here this, but what was going on for Trudeau to have jestured like that? Do you know?
  7. The fact that police forces across the country are using the gun registry every day is sufficient evidence for me to assume that the gun control legislation is functioning well in Canadian society. A good analogy is the metric system. Painful, creating anger at first, but eventually the pain and anger goes away, and it ceases to be an issue.
  8. Victims Point of View No Right to Guns in Canada Myths and Facts about Gun Control A few informative articles that I found to fill in this page because of a duplicate posting.
  9. I think everyone, even the proponents of gun control, are concerned about the exoribant costs. But that is a red herring, designed to discredit the legislation, and really nothing to do with the issue of the advantages of having good gun control in Canada. If one were honest, instead of all these sidebar issues, meant to distract, one would discuss the reasons gun contol legislation was implemented in Canada. Does anyone remember the slaughter of women at the University of Montreal? Mark Lepine
  10. The above statement is absurd. If it was rejected why did Martin keep aluding to how similiar the Liberals are to the NDP. The reality is Liberals get and got the most number of seats because they are constantly pumping NDP policies during elections. This time it is different however as the government could fall anytime and Canadians will be paying a lot more attention than usual to politics, and not so easily fooled. At some point Canadians will begin to vote for the real thing.
  11. Ottawa to limit refugee appeals Canadians need to stop their knee-jerk reactions, and learn the details, to these hot button issues. A straight forward appeals process, which does not exist at the moment, would be a good first step, and this is the kind of thing Ed Broadbent is talking about when he says Immigration Minister Sgro is going about it a bit backwards.
  12. Churches seen as claimants' last resort This Unitarian minister, someone who walks the talk, is the kind of calibre of MP I would like to see in the House of Commons. Terrorism my ass! Does anyone remember the War Measures Act that Trudeau invoked in 1970?
  13. This security threat is a red herring. Would someone like to share with us when any of these individuals temporarily housed in Canada's churches seeking refugee status, has ever been a threat to Canada's security? Maybe some people are confusing these refugee seekers with Maher Arar - he's a terrorist too, isn't he?
  14. Canada's gun control is on target Who else is tired of these constant knee-jerk reactions to events in Canada? Canadians need to take the time to thoroughly research issues so that appropriate measures are taken to solve problems in our society. Gun control is a good example.
  15. Don't let Alberta's bellyaching mislead you. The NEP was one of the best programs Canada ever had.
  16. Sgro rapped for stand on church sanctuaries I have confidence that the Unitarian and the United churches are not harbouring criminals. Canadians need to pay attention here as we watch our freedoms being eroded in the name of security for our country. Where have we seen this scenerio play out before? This issue is going to haunt the Martin Liberals.
  17. Listened to a radio call in talk show (99% right wing callers) during the election one night and a substantial number of voters suggested they were going to be voting Green. I wonder if the BC Liberals are concerned about the Greens making inroads into their strength and what they plan to do about it. Or do the BC Liberals think the Greeens will draw more from progessive parties lke New Democrats? My hunch is that we are going to once again see the same crap that Ipsos-Reid are now notorious for, combined with the capitalist press pumping and pushing the Green vote, onlty to see if fall flat on its face come voting day. I wonder which riding the Greens believe they have a chance in this next goaround.
  18. Says who? On what basis do you make a remark like that? We are not talking about the victim - that is a separate issue. No one is suggesting that the suspect should not be tried, and IF FOUND GUILTY, be given a punishing sentence. Why in the world do you think we have separated the court system from the police role in society? We are talking about inappropriate behaviour by a senior role model for a lot of police officers. This needs to be nipped in the bud or we could begin sliding back to the law of the jungle. In Canada one is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Even prior to this case, we have been having way too many trial by media as opposed to trial by jury in our society.
  19. History has something to do with it. How long has it been in the scheme of things when women were chattel, owned by their husbands, like any other product on the shelf. Women have shed their shackles, let's not try to reimpose them. In the real world I presume most pregancies are discussed between the woman and the man involved. But ultimately if there is a disagreement, the woman has to chose, after all, it is her body. I have every confidence that overall women will make the best choices for herself, her relationship and the prospective child
  20. Catney is condoning mob rule. Fortunately those ideas went out of favour in, was it, the 19th century?
  21. In the Province today an article by Michael Smith commmenting on building the three ferries outside of Canada. Liberal MLA Dan Jarvis called the decision to build up to 3 ferries in Europe "BLATANTLY STIPID". What a bunch of morons these BC Liberals are, all for the sake of idealogy: $500 million sent outside the province 2,000 jobs lost $75 million in lost tax revenue 25% import duty for building the ships off shore loss of all the economic spinoff benefits Kudos to lonely Liberal MLA Jarvis.
  22. Chief's words in Zhang case a problem, lawyers say Well I certainly hope these remarks do not impede the path to justice. Something is terribly wrong when a law enforment official comments on a case that has not yet been determined by the courts. I think I read somewhere that these kind of remarks were encouraged by the Harris government. Thank goodness he's gone. Gotta wonder sometimes how some people get into these positions of power and authority. Too bad more good people don't go into politics.
  23. Why Did He Do It? I have watching what has been going on with senior police officers in Ontario. First we have the situation in Toronto and now this Peel Region event. This issue is going to trouble a lot of Canadians because it is important for Canadians to be able to respect their police, otherwise we will end up with a breakdown in society.
  24. Apparently there is nothing these American companies can do to prevent the FBI from perusing the medical records of Canadians. I can't wait until June 17 as this collecting Canadians medical records and shipping them to the US issue, is sure to come back and bite Campbell in the ass.
