Broadbent rips into Sgro Refugee Policies
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Flawed refugee system makes sanctuary a must, say churches I am glad that church leaders have spoken out on Canada's broken refugee appeal process system. What are Canadians supposed to do - lose all our liberties over this terrorism bugaboo? No way Jose!. Each case needs to be decided on its own merits. -
Canada probes "third man" in New Zealand-Israel spy saga What in the world is going on here? This in not the first time that a Mossad member has been caught with a stolen Canadian passport. Did Isreal steal Canadian passports?

Broadbent rips into Sgro Refugee Policies
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Churches say they'd close doors to refugees if appeal process worked As I suspected churches do not want to be in the refugee business, it is just that Ottawa does not have its act together, so instead of cleaning up their own back yard, Sgro is trying to scapegoat the churches. Disgusting! -
Why Johnny won't vote There is a serious malaise amongst a lot of potential Canadian voters concerning Canada's electoral process. It is a shame that so many Canadians feel disconnected from our political process, and there is nothing on the federal horizon that is going to reverse this trend, of fewer and fewer Canadians participating in our voting process.

Kuwait Bans 'Fahrenheit 9/11' Wow, what it's like to live in dictatorship, where someone else will decide what you see and watch, and what you don't see and watch. I think I'll pass on taking my next vacation in Kuwait.

Harper wanted Canadians troops in Iraq
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Harper's stance almost makes one grateful for an undersized military This was such a colossal blunder by Harper, as now the latest polls show close to 80% of Canadians are opposed to the war in Iraq, that the Conservative leader should consider stepping down at some point if the Conservatives are to have any chance at success. I am a firm believer that if any leader wants to go to war, he or she needs to walk the talk, and personally sign up for the armed forces themselves, and as well, to make sure that all their kids go to war as well. All of a sudden you will see these so-called leaders change their minds. -
Harper wanted Canadians troops in Iraq
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Actually I supported Canada's position to work via the United Nations. Too bad Harper wanted to take the law into his own hands, and send Canadian troops to Iraq. That in not the kind of prime minister Canadians want or need. -
Last year Harper wanted to send Canadian troops to Iraq. Now that the Iraqi invasion has turned into a quagmire, the revisionist Conservatives are trying to rewrite history, saying Harper never wanted to send troops to Iraq. Wouldn't Harper and his supporters be better off admitting that Harper was wrong, and that he made a mistake, instead of trying to stonewall on this issue?

Right wing liar? Is mike moore such a sacred cow to you that you have to resort to adhominem insults to get your point across? I know this board seems to be your entire social life, because you're always here, so I'll go easy but come on. Attack Bush with credibility not cut and paste defamitory tactics. The only people Moore has credibility with are feeble minded anti-americans. I'm sure Moore is turning into quite the Canadian hero. Afterall that is where he gets much of his funding for his hate campaigns. This is so sad to see, someone who has no substance to their arguments, so they constantly resort to personal insults. Too bad their arguments are so weak that this is their only option. Hatred is a sickness as Michael Moore well knows.

Judge postpones decision on NDP election challenge Anyone else following this legal challenge to two ridings in Saskatchewan? It appears that a bunch of voters voted in the incorrect riding, based on wrongly addressed Elections Canada voter registration cards. With the results so close in our minority government, this sure could complicate things if by-elections have to be called in these two ridings. If by-elections were held, who do you think would win?

Speaking of Ann Coulter I read recently she got the boot from USA Today. How come?
-
I think this is the issue, and why there is such an uproar over Moore's movie Fahrenheit 9/11. Bush was on the edge of the cliff politically anyway, and it looks like Moore's movie has just pushed him off.
-
Anyone else tired of the right wing liars around here? Michael Moore is an active and welcome participant at the Democratic National Convention. Moore is quickly turning into an American hero, and probably, more than any other American, will be responsible for turfing Bush from the White House this Fall.

Middle-finger salute example of Trudeau's frankness Funny, the people Trudeau gave the finger to, were not upset.

We need to invite Michael Moore back to Canada to do part of his Sicko documentary here. It would be a good contrast to the American system. No wonder he is calling it Sicko.
-
Doctors need to be put on salary, and nurses and other health care professionals need to be given more power and authority in the system. Right now we have almost a dictatorship of doctors.
-
Just saw this on another discussion board: Michael Moore Definition: HMO = Hand Money Over
-
Once this movie Sicko is out, I have the feeling there will never be another peep about privatizing health care in Canada. Does anyone else get the feeling the North American political pendelum is starting to swing left again?

Arrests made in Cecelia Zhang case
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Online statement casts new doubt on Zhang case Chill folks. I think some people need to take a bit of valium. There appears to a be a little more to this, not necessarily so cut and dried as some would have you think, and very fortunately we have a justice system in Canada when one is innocent until proven guilty.
