  1. Here it comes, this is just the beginning, but one can already feel the tide finally turning against Bush: Bush and the house of cards Read the whole article and you will understand why Kerry's going to win.
  2. Article The latest polling shows Kerry pulling up even with Bush. The combination of the utter disasterous situation the US is encountering in Iraq, combined with Bush's missing and/or doctored military records, is beginning to stick in a negative way to Bush, in the run up period to the November election. I think finally even the Americans will join the rest of the world in supporting their rejection of Bush, and he will not be elected for a second term. If I had to choose one word to describe Bush's re-election problems, it would be the SLEAZE factor.
  3. August1991......thanks for bringing Aquin to our attention. I had forgotten about him but now I remember bits and pieces. Attempting to explain a suicide
  4. Maybe Islam is a superior religion. I agree about the shame part but my goodness, families that experience a suicide need support not rejection. This is a very good example why I have serious issues with most organized religion. Quakers and Unitarians get my vote.
  5. I grew up in Quebec and thought provincial politics there was nuts until I moved to BC. Politically in a lot of ways these are two crazy but similar provinces. The only good thing is once and awhile, in spite of the overwhelming media support for the right of centre parties, the New Democrats in BC, still manage to occasionally get elected. Quite an amazing feat when you really think about it. How many recent BC premiers have bit the dust over some scandal? Clark Harcourt Bennett Van der Zalm I'm sure there are more!
  6. Quebec is unique - get used to it! Really what's the big deal. All Quebeckers want is to protect their French language and culture. Let's be open-hearted and give them as much support as possible so we can continue to be one big happy Canadian family. I mean think about it - what makes us different than the US? Canada is a social democracy, has universal health care, and two official languages. Plus Canadians would dominate in hockey, if only there was hockey to participate in.
  7. Yesterday BC Finance Minister Gary Collins aide David Basi is charged by the police. Today Christy Clark announced she is stepping down from cabinet and will not be running again. What is going on here? A logical question to ask it seems: "Is there a link between this two events?"
  8. I was listening to the radio this morning, and this person was describing a situation where her brother committed suicide, and because he took his own life, his family was not allowed to use the regular death process in their church. What is this all about? Obviously this person's brother was mentally ill, was sick. So, why should he and his family be punished. Weird!
  9. As long as the gap between the rich and the poor is controlled through taxation in Canada, with our abundant resources, we will have a society where healthiness will permeate all segiments of society. The major reason for good health is affuence, more important than smoking, drinking, or exercise, etc. That is why I believe in equality as much as possible, so all parts of our society will share equally in having good health.
  10. Ex-Canada PM: Universal Health Care Works Now that the PM and the premiers have sorted out their differences over health care, we can finally put to rest the idea that any other system is better. It is obvious now that Canada's public health care system is probably the, or one of the world's best, and the only people now who are upset are the transnational private health care insurance corporations and the very rich, who seem to think their allmight dollars should put them in the front of the queue. The sick US society could learn a lot from Canada especially in this field.
  11. Police have discretionary powers - they need to back off on this one. No wonder society loses respect for police - they need to focus on the real criminals, like the biker gangs.
  12. Latest Mustel Group Poll results show Liberals up 6% on the NDP. Liberals are stronger in the Lower Mainland, and the NDP stronger in the rural areas. Press Release
  13. Pot advocate arrested in Da Kine crackdown What an absolute waste of time for the police to get involved in this nonsense.
  14. Drug charges laid against Basi This trial should prove to be quite enlightening as perhaps BCers will now get a glimpse of how far the underworld has reached into the corridors of power in our province.
  15. When is this insanity over marijuana ever going to stop? Yes, it is up to the federal government to modernize the drug laws. In the meantime however the police forces need to back off and stop harrassing people who want to have the occasional joint. Recently we had a store on Commercial Drive in Vancouver which started selling marijuana. Apparently it operated for several months with no problems until the Vancouver Sun decided to make it their mission to close it down. The police were ignoring it, the City of Vancouver was ignoring it, and everything was just fine. Now the operation is in jeopardy. When will we ever learn? Marijuana is here to stay. It is much less harmfull than alcohol, and the US are clueless in attempting to deal with it, with their misguided "war on Drugs".
  16. Part of ther problem is that there is no left-of-centre media outlets. They just don't exist. All media outlets are centre or right wing, and what is happening here is that for once, the left has an equal opportunity to express themselves, and people are, understandably not used to it. The right is used to having the communications field to themselves. Well now with the internet that era is past, and it is time to get over it.
  17. Things are definitely heating up in BC with our next provincial election just over 8 months from now. Like the federales, maybe we will be getting a minority government in BC which would not necessarily be a bad thing.
  18. Film on cat killers draws protest It seems that some people in our society think that it is ok to abuse animals as opposed to humans. I think it is equally as bad, and animal abusers should be punished in the same way that human abusers are punished when caught.
  19. Direct hit by Ivan could sink New Orleans Nothing like a little doomsday scenario for the media to up their ratings, eh!
  20. Weren't there 3 countries on the US Axis of Evil shit list? Iran is just number 2. North Korea, so close to China, will prove to be more challenging!
  21. Ivan could sink New Orleans 1.2 million people have been warned to evacuate New Orleans - that is quite an exodus! It seems the hurricane season is unusually severe this season - is this a sign of the times because of global warming?
  22. How about that Mario Lemieux, eh? In hockey at least, Canada rules! I guess we owe it all to PM Martin.
  23. What a great hockey game - will Canada pull it off?
  24. When the Rabbits Get a Gun Before you begin to pontificate once again how bin Laden & Hussein were buddies, and all that US smoke and mirrors silliness, I suggest you read the above article in its entirety, and start putting things into their proper perspective.
